Hi all

First time post, I think? Any nonsense I am talking, please let me know. I am just furious at the whole issues I have faced

Bought a car a couple of years ago from an independent dealer on eBay. 89000 ish Miles. '03 2.0 (I think)

Had a few problems when I bought it, "diesal minimum additive level" being one of them. As I couldnt drive due to not passing my test, it sat there for 2 years doing nothing. Replaced the battery when I moved to a new area. All well and good. Finally passed my test after year 3 (well 1 month ago), had practice in the car and I have had problems with it since, only driven it 1087 miles since passing.

Had the Catalytic converter stolen back in december which I got replaced £750 later.

Anti-Pollution fault seems to come on and stay on when I accidently over rev from 3rd to 4th gear and goes away, I don't know when.

Had glow plugs apparently replaced 6 months ago and the pre heater light use to come on. Now it doesn't and the garage are adamant that the fault I have with it now, is not the issue. Could they of blown? again as no preheater

Around a week ago, the car wouldnt start after sitting outside the school for 10 mins and driving 16 miles to the school in heavy London traffic. Called the AA out and they plugged in the diagnostic machine and it came back saying

-Glow plug relay fault.

-Additive system, cannot add additive.

-Additive system faulty.

-Additive system tank empty

-L112 Rail pressure monitoring

-Anti pollution Fault. The garage said that because they cut the sensor cable to the CC, it throws that error anyway

The guy said my diesel pump is fine, my garage is saying it might be the pump, it could be the fuel line blocked? Garage said I should take it to the diesel specialist in Croydon and get it properly diagnosed But what with just having a new baby, I can't really afford that yet

Now each time I park it overnight, I have to be on a slight hill to roll start it. OR easy start it which I have heard; is like a DRUG to the car??? It relies on it.

Sorry it is long winded and all over the place but I was trying to piece it together better :)

Ok then where to start. from What your saying you bought the car and parked it up ( for whatever reason) then went back to it 2 years later put a battery on it and started it and put it in for a mot

Chances are the diesel in it will of started to break down in the tank if its stood that long so drain the tank and flush the fuel system out and refill with fresh diesel. Now service the car oil/air/diesel filters and fresh oil. Due to the fault codes you have listed then your car has a FAP filter system which requires eolys oil to be squirted into the filter in the exhaust. The eolys tank is empty and needs refilling as that is what is giving you the anti pollution fault and most of your codes. The rail pressure code may be due to the old diesel fuel. If your any good with cars we could talk you through how to do it. Just a guess mind but the starting will probally sort itself out with fresh fuel and filters. also dont worry to much about the glow plug relay as the car wont be using it to start the engine this time of year ( only works at minus 5)

First thought post the age/size and engine code  of your car to make things a bit easier And id keep away from the garage your using as it sounds like they really dont know these engines despite the hdi being really common

Welcome to the forum, you have come to the right place for good advice and help.

To provide the engine code the easiest way is to provide the first part of the vehicle identification number (VIN), all the letters up to the numbers. The VIN is on the V5C document but can be easily seen from outside the car through the bottom of the windscreen at the passenger side. It will start  VF7....... If you provide the numbers we can also identify the exact vehicle for parts etc. but then delete them for security.

There will obviously be some expense involved and eolys fluid is not cheap, about £30 a litre and you will probably need 3 litres. If you do not add any the exhaust FAP (diesel particulate filter) will block up and add to the problems.

The cable to the cc - the parts diagrams show an exhaust gas temperature sensor fastening to the catalyst/particulate filter so I am guessing this is the one that was cut but you should have had another fitted as part of the catalyst/particulate filter replacement. Its part no. may be 1618LW and about £62. I am guessing when the cc was taken it was probably just cut out at either side or the clamps undone and the particulate filter was also taken since it is bolted to the cc.

Hi CoastlineTaxis and Paul

2003, 2.0 HDi

I will get the VIN in the morning as it is parked up on a hill round the corner. V5C is in some PaperWork ;)

Here is some additional info while-u-wait

Particulate Filter was replaced around 9 months ago. It was cleaned out the other day for £30 apparently. That together with a new pully and belt @£150

@Paul the eolys fluid isn't that bad in price, I can afford that, it is just a case of getting that warning reset. That will probably cost some £££ That is what I have heard anyway.

If you go into the c5 section and then diagnostic help theres a list of members who have diagnostic tools that will reset it for you free of charge. Just find the one closest to you and off you go. But get the fuel sorted out first

What info can moderators or experts get out of me providing my VIN?

I'll speak on behalf of the moderators and say that the only information we'd get would be the facts about your car. For example, its RP number, date it was built, its engine and transmission, its colour, the seat material plus a further couple of dozen facts about the car............................................... None of which on its own would be of much use to anyone. But in this day and age when identity theft is so common, it's just another piece of information like DOB, address, passport number, bank account details, middle name or mother's maiden name that the scammers collect to build up an identity.

I have also deleted the car no. plate reg from the earlier post.

The engine code is RHT = DW10ATED4 with particle filter, 2.0 hdi, 16 v, 5 speed manual gearbox, max power 79 kW (106 bhp), max torque 270 Nm, registered June 2003.

Hi all

Update for you..

Last night, that dreaded anti-pollution light came on. Went to the shops and had to park on a hill to roll start it.

As this light was still on, I can "rev the car past 30K revs in 1st gear. That isn't really an issue. What I do find concerning is as I was pulling up after doing a 15 minute drive back home, when I was reversing back up this hill, a tremendous amount of white smoke came from the exhaust. This happened to me around 3 weeks ago then the next day it went. And I drove 70 miles the next day.

Question is, what is the cause of this? Is it serious?

If it is serious, how come it went the next day?

Should I be worried it will cost loads of money?

I did go to that garage and he said it was the turbo!!! Worth more than the car itself!!!

Trying to work out how to upload a video as my daughter recorded it. Can't seem to youtube it

Thanks

If it was black smoke it could be an egr valve problem or fueling problem. The times I have had white smoke, once was head gasket failure and it was steam from the coolant getting in to the cylinders (so check your coolant level), the other time in a petrol Saab it was the turbo had failed and the cloud of white smoke surrounded the car. If it is the turbo and you continue to use the car, the turbo could break up and put metal bits in to the engine and ruin it, so as well as a turbo the engine would need rebuilding or replacing.

The fact that the smoke comes and goes makes me think the engine and turbo are proabaly OK but check the water and oil levels are not dropping. I think you must get the EOYLYS system working as this could be throwing the engine management system into turmoil, the exhaust temp sensor has to be present to tell the system to regenerate and the pressure pipes and sensor are also needed. This will cost but it is worth getting the system correct so you get some trouble free motoring, use specialist, ordinary garages just don't understand the system and know little more than you do. Our cat and FA was stolen a few years ago, really frustrating.

Here is some more info http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/806-807-43/remove-particulate-filter-dpf-cleaning-88850/ and http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/806-807-43/clean-replace-particulate-filter-dpf-88858/

It is worth persevering as all cars fitted with FAP's have problems and the patented PSA EOLYS system is about the best available, Renaults for example don't have this system and their FAP's cause far more trouble.
