ctaniab Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Hello, I picked up a C3 1.4hdi lx model 2004, yesterday & joined the site. First problem, this morning - flat battery. I just got home from work & I want to remove the battery to charge it.I have read through the owners handbook & radio pamphlet & all the other paperwork but can find no information on whether the radio is coded or not? On one of my previous cars I made the mistake of removing the battery & then itwas very difficult to obtain the code for the radio.I'm pretty confident it is the original unit, at least it is the same as in the picture in the booklet. It's a CD player & worked fine yesterday. Any advice please? Thanks, Tania. Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I don't know whether or not your radio needs a code however, with PSA cars at least, there's a procedure to follow when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Follow this method:-Open the bonnet and prop it open.Open the driver's window.Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key from the car.Wait 3 minutes before touching the battery to give the various electronics time to shutdown and save settings.Remove the cover over the battery - if there is one..Remove the bolt holding the battery clipRemove the battery negative terminal.Remove the battery positive terminal.Remove the battery from the car. When reconnecting ignition key out of the carReconnect the battery and wait a few minutes. Don't open doors.Through the open window insert the key in the ignition and wait a minuteTurn the key to the first position and wait a minuteTurn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute before starting the engineTake the windows down and up to reset the anti pinchReset the clock Quote
ctaniab Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Thanks Johndouglas. PSA cars? Sorry if a dumb question... Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 your stereo is coded via your vin number so the ecu can reconise it. so theres no code for you to put in it does it automaticly Quote
paul.h Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 PSA is the Peugeot, Citroen company. In John's procedure, remember to put the gear lever in to neutral before putting the key in the ignition switch and starting the engine. You will also need to reset the clock/date. Quote
ctaniab Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Aaaah - PSA the parent company, well I've learnt something already  Quote
john h Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 'Open drivers window............disconnect battery' for this you either need a garage or zero crime rate area Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 But you're with the car for the few minutes the window is open...... Quote
john h Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) But you're with the car for the few minutes the window is open...... :rolleyes:My point being how do you raise the window with no battery connected, Open the driver's window. Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key from the car. Wait 3 minutes before touching the battery to give the various electronics time to shutdown and save settings. Remove the cover over the battery - if there is one.. Remove the bolt holding the battery clip Remove the battery negative terminal. Remove the battery positive terminal. Remove the battery from the car. Had a similar conundrum removing a Scenic battery for recharging, no keyholes in doors, car left unlocked all night, no other option available Edited June 10, 2014 by john h Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 just charge it with the battery insitu Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 My point being how do you raise the window with no battery connected, Sorry for the confusion. I'd momentarily forgotten you wanted to remove the battery for charging. The instructions I gave you were for when you needed to reset the BSI. So do as Steve suggested. Or just remove the battery for charging. But having refitted it, you may need to do the reset to get everything working correctly. Quote
