tigertim Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Hi All, Just have a permanent fault on my 2008 C-Crosser. Checked with laptop & level is at 686ml. Fault is "level in additive tank low". Has anyone had to deal with this. Is it a main dealer job?. Thanks, Tim Quote
coastline taxis Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 have u recently topped the eloys oil up. if so did you rest the counters in the ecu Quote
tigertim Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 Just getting this error now. Fluid is down to almost half a litre. Not topped up yet.Must call to my local Citroen dealer today & see what the story is. T. Quote
Routemaster1 Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Ii is not necessarily a main dealer job. If the ELOYS has not been topped up or the bag replaced (depending on model and year there may be a tank or bag) the first thing to do is to replenish the fluid. There are several types which may or may not be compatible. Once the fluid has been 'filled up', then it is necessary for the system to be updated to reset the counter. This needs to be done using a Lexia or diagbox. You may find a specialist who can do this for you. Quote
paul.h Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 The additive level is not measured but is calculated on the number of diesel tank fills. So when the additive is topped up the ecu needs a diagnostic to tell the car it has been topped to reset the level. If it is not reset, then additive will still be dosed until it runs out but the message will continue. You can still top up the additive without doing a reset but the message will not go which could have happened if the additive tank still has half a litre. Quote
tigertim Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 i'm not sure if the additive can be topped up. I'm told by my local citroen dealer that its a sealed bag, like a blood bag & can't be topped up.Not sure if this is correct. T. Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 yes its correct most are like that now. Dont think its a expensive job at the dealers and will be done with no fuss Quote
tigertim Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 Has anyone tried retrofitting a DPF additive tank say from a Peugeot 407 than could be topped up & do away with the bag. T. Quote
tigertim Posted June 29, 2017 Author Posted June 29, 2017 Had to pay over the money (€400) & buy a new bag of DPF fluid. Most of the screws were seized on the box & had to be tapped/heated out & replaced with bolts. Looking at the old bag it looks like it would be possible to cut the connecting pipe off the bag, fit some small plastic tank in the boot & run a hose between the two. Will try this if I still have the C-Crosser when it happens again. Should be a cheaper option. Thanks for the help. T. Quote
paul.h Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 If not already done, it will make the job easier in the future if some grease is put on the bolts/nuts so they do not rust in again. I guess the reason for the additive bag is to minimise handling of the fluid so should be safer for the technicians and if the bolts were not seized, it ought to be quicker to change the bag than do a top up. Was 400 euros for a dealer to do the work including resetting the level ? Quote
tigertim Posted June 30, 2017 Author Posted June 30, 2017 €400 was just to buy the bag. Did the job with a buddy who has an independent garage. Didn't price it in main stealer.. If I still have the car when the additive runs out, I might take a look at fitting a bottle I could top up. T. Quote
