what year is your c8 as weve seen a couple of cars that although diagbox works on them the results arnt really truthfull. If its before 2008 try lexia. Have u recently had any electrical work done or new stereo or seats out etc etc

hi coastline my c8 is a 2005 i have just replaced the deactivation switch with 2 replacements and still the same only electrical work done recently was changing the stereo to an aftermarket one but it didnt fit in the dash properly so put the original one back in everything else on the car works fine all stalks do what there supposed to only seats that have been taken out is the middle row and the bench seat at the rear for hoovering purposes

Hi blingy,

I read the whole thread but I couldn't figure out if the error just appeared by itself, or it appeared after some work was done on the car.. It is important for quicker diagnosis. I also have a C8 Automatic Exclusive with the original stereo replaced by a Panasonic (I bought the car like this).

If someone was trying to fit an after market stereo on your car, then he may entered the BSI/ECU configuration and performed some activities (disabling something or another), or he may he un-clipped some wire or connector.

If by itself, then it may be corrosion or device failure, it is very unlikely to have two separate devices failing at the same time.

All Lexia and DiagBox releases work with my car. There are few bugs with older Lexia/DiagBox versions; documented on PSA page, but I haven't noticed them as I hardly need to use my Lexia or DiagBox (I only use it few times a year).

You did not mention which version of DiagBox have you tried and if your VCI (Hardware device) is a full chip or not and which firmware is installed on it, some devices do not perform the full functionality spectrum and some do not work on all PSA cars.

While I doubt that DiagBox/Lexia software version is related to your problem, you could try later releases of DiagBox. I posted DiagBox update 7.83 and DiagBox 8.17 and last week I released Lexia/PP2000 update v8.47 (not yet on this site though), you can try them to access your ECU, but I would advise extensive readings and taking photos before attempting any re-configuration.

Hi all quick update paid to have someone look at my car and instantly said the airbag ecu is at fault anybody got any information on where to get a replacement if I get one from a scrappy can I just replace with one that looks identical providing it's not been in an accident any thoughts on this

A replacement air bag ecu might need configuring to tell it what systems the car has - air bags, pretensioners - if the other car was different. When fitting a replacement ecu there is a deactivation/activation procedure to avoid the possibility of the air bags going off with you in the car. Before disconnecting the battery you need to switch off the ignition, remove the key, open the door or bonnet (whichever, so the battery can be accessed) and leave open until disconnected so the bsi does not start up, wait a few minutes for the bsi to shut down and then the battery can be disconnected. When you connect the battery again, then wait a minute or so before switching on the ignition so the dash lights up, then wait a minute or so before starting the engine - just to allow the bsi time to start up and avoid odd electrical problems. The clock/date will need resetting and the windows should be taken down and up to reset the anit pinch.

1. Deactivation

Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Protect the cable and the negative terminal in order to prevent any contact.
CAUTION : Wait for at least 5 minutes before performing any operations (discharging of the airbag ECU power reserve).
CAUTION : The ECU must not be removed with the connector still connected under any circumstances.
Disconnect the airbag ECU connector.

2. Activation
ESSENTIAL : The area of the airbags and pyrotechnic seat belts should be kept clear, both of objects and of people.
Ignition off : Connect the airbag ECU connector.
Connect the battery negative cable.
On the driver’s side, door open, ignition on, keeping the steering wheel module activation area clear.
Check the system is operating correctly by checking the airbag fault LEDs.
N.B. : After disconnecting the battery, some electronic systems (injection, safety auto-reverse system ... ) need an initialisation procedure ; Perform the appropriate initialisation procedures. (Not sure what this is but your handbook may have something about battery disconnection)

Paul.h thank you for the very useful information I appreciate that as for the ecu from a scrappy does it have to be from a Citroen c8 or can one from a peaugeot 807 or fiat Ulysses be used or are they different and is there any number matching needed to get the right one

I do not know if the parts are the same across the 3 makes but an ebay search on C8 airbag ecu suggests common parts. On the Citroen parts diagrams there are 4 different ones. From rpo number 10377 (this is on the tyre pressure sticker on a door pillar and in the inside cover of your service stamp book) it is 6546H0 for one to be configured and 6546H1 if configured to your VIN. Up to this rpo (cars without can bus) one to be configured is 654674 and one already configured is 654688. You could search against these.

RPO equates to a production date of 7/4/2005 if you can not find it on your car.

Hi I am not far from you and have LEXIA I would be willing to come by and try and help you solve this issue I am under the impression than the airbag ECU is the same across all models you mentioned above but like any ECU they will need re-learning and a possible update failing that I know that the impact sensors/satellite sensors are a common prob on these but without the correct diagnostics equipment like any PSA  you are in the dark and can end up making problems worse trying to find a minor problem.
