crapday Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Hi, its that time again when my car needs its service. The car is a C5 VTR 1.6 diesel, year 2005 (new shape). Is there any walk through of how a DIYer could do this. as the car is out of warranty, I don't want to spend £400ish on the service. I have done the servicing on all my cars (apart from the C3 XTR). I serviced the Xantia for 3 years (including stripping down the suspension reservoir). Is there any special tools that I might need ? It makes it hard as there is no user manual for this car. Thanks in advance Gary. Quote

crapday Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 There is a manual. Details of C5 manual Thanks, but that manual seems to be hard to get and its in french. All I really need to know is where all the filters are and all the fluids that I need to change to service the C5. Wheres the particle filter as the on board computer tells me it needs changed. cheers Gary. Quote
paul.h Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 The French Amazon site has them in stock 22.6 euros, just checked. Go into amazon.co.uk and at the bottom of the page click on France and then search on C5. The etai manual for the later C5 has some excellent colour pictures for the servicing which are easy to understand. Then with a little help of a French dictionary it is not difficult to translate the odd word. There are also internet sites that translate if really stuck. Quote

What about fully synthetic? would that be better. Just went down to the garage, the oil is chevrons. Its not semi synthetic. Of the the motor factors for me then. How accessible is the sump plug on the C5. I see the oil filter is easy to get at, its at the front, right hand side. Quote

I see the oil filter is easy to get at, its at the front, right hand side. Yes it would. Citroen recommend Total Quartz 7000 which is semi, and 9000 which is fully synth. If I were leaving the oil for it's full stretch, I would certainly use the full synth. The sump plug on the 2 litre can be found at the back of the sump. On the 1.6, it'sa on the bottom of the sump. It's easy to find and remove --------------- once you've got the undertray removed. That takes some time. Also to give yourself sufficient room, you'll need the car on ramps. Quote
myglaren Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I bought a 5L pack of AC Delco 100% synthetic from my usual parts shop for £23. The car had not long before been serviced but I misinterpreted the electronic dipstick and thought it was very low.Heaved ½L in and overfilled it!That was last year and it hasn't changed yet. Quote
crapday Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Done the oil change easily but could not get the oil filter out. I will wait a few month and do a new oil change and change the filter (or do you think I should still change the filter). I will need to get a new filter removal tool or a big socket (what size is the filter socket) Quote

I will need to get a new filter removal tool or a big socket (what size is the filter socket) It's as well to change the filter at the same time as the oil change. If your oil filter is the same as the 2ltr engine, you need a 27mm socket on a ratchet handle. Quote
crapday Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Funny how the cars are going back to the old oil filters of bye gone days. I remember changing the filters on the old Viva engines. It was a metal case with the filter inside. They seem to be going back to that design  I'll go get a 27mm socket and change it tomorrow. Quote
