coastline taxis Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Just serviced one of the new c5 it was o8 model and i dont know if i like them or not. They seem to have taken everything citroen away from it. its now got dry suspension/rear handbrake. The driver of the car says the seats are crap, tyres now cost a fortune as theyve went up 2 sizes. Overall they just dont seem to be anything like a c5. And after taking it down the road the suspension is solid. Overall im just not impressed with it at all Quote
Johngartyuk Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 ...........Overall im just not impressed with it at all Yes, as they say "Unmistakeably German"! Quote
techbod Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 its all the electronics today to blame for that but it depends on which one you go for and has it all the bells and whistles, the basic was disappointing but still looks good but you cant beat the bigger engine with all the toys, I wish I went for the C6 though but that will have to wait Quote
Randombloke Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Overall they just dont seem to be anything like a c5. And after taking it down the road the suspension is solid. Overall im just not impressed with it at all Unmistakably German, and therefore a poor copy of the Passat/A4/A6. If I wanted a car with hard unsupportive seats, jouncy suspension, and an extremely high second hand price, I would have simply gone to a VAG dealer. PSA are forgetting some of the Citroen history, although it's probably the SM fiasco that's upper most in their minds during the recession. However, the average Joe terrified of Citroen suspension will only see a cheap Passat alternative, with shed loads of electronic extras he'd pay a fortune extra for in a Passat, and at a price that doesn't buy anywhere near an A4 or A6 of similar spec. PSA see a good chance to get the beta version of the 408 road tested including the suspension they will offer with it (something they did not have with the Xantia/406 or C5/407 as the suspension was still hydraulic) and hopefully those of us in the know may still find some nice H3+ bargains in 6 years time. Methinks I'll be looking at an 07/57 C5 in 5 years time. Quote
kfk Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 C5 MK3 has a choice of sprung or Hydropneumatic.....its an option. Quote
Randombloke Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 C5 MK3 has a choice of sprung or Hydropneumatic.....its an option. I read somewhere it was standard (H3+) at certain trim levels. I suspect the fleet buyers will have 100s of the coil version though. The French forum did say that in France the greater number sold (67%) were H3+ not coil. Quote

They can be swapped over if you catch them before they bling the pad warning light on if not then its another 9 quid. Quote

I posted a negative reaction to the new car back in April/May time when it was lauched, and got beaten up for it. Everyone was falling over themselves to say how wonderful it was. Well, we're now 7 months on, and the new C5 is still a very rare sight on the road. Dismal sales figures, recession or no recession. The lack of a hatchback is suicide in the this sector, and if people want a boring over priced German saloon (more fool them) they will continue to be ripped off by the German brands, and continue to spend time waiting for the AA van. It's all in the badge! Citroen is all about individuality and daring to be different. The new car is a sell-out to the mainstream, and they have only succeeded in losing their established customers, not gaining any new ones. The c5 did pretty well in the car of the year voting (whatever that is) finishing third behind the Insignia (which really will dominate the family sector) and the new Fiesta, so a competent car, and keenly priced, but they've got the marketing all wrong. This is a Peugeot, not a a Citroen, if you know what I mean. Quote
DaveHerns Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I had a look at a new C5 and found there was less headroom and less rear legroom ,Everything seems to be geared towards a large load capacity because they can boast a large number of cubic meters in the adverts Quote

His new one is causing him a bit concern because at 17k hes having to put pads and and 2 front tyres on. Quote

Standard on Exclusive, option on some VTR+ models (depending on engine). I still love the new version, take a look at Autotrader to see how second hand values are holding. Quote
Randombloke Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 This is a Peugeot, not a a Citroen, if you know what I mean. Spot on. A chance to get the 408 road tested by the public without damaging the reputation of the Lion badge. I still love the new version, take a look at Autotrader to see how second hand values are holding. S/h values of the early C5 were very good in the first year/18 months but then plummeted. Now, looking at the D5, that's possibly something else, and return to Citroenisti values.....
