Probably ok for the MOT but this year the steering lock has to work. The MOT testers manual can be seen on-line if you want to check. It could affect your insurance though.
-
Internet searches suggest it could be something to do with the immobiliser, possibly the key not being recognised, the receiver for the key signal faulty, the immobiliser on the fuel pump. Worth checking the battery voltage but possibly your immobiliser has been bypassed if the van is running.

Thankyou for reposting that John, I think this topic is just about back to what it was before I managed to delete it.
-
Thanks for that, if you provide your email address in a private message I can send a pdf. For some reason the pictures will not post on here.

Sorry, but somehow I have accidently deleted the posts on this whilst trying to edit my post on the procedure which did not include the pictures, and I do not know how to get them back.

If you do need a new hydraulic block, it will need calibrating as well as a few other associated bits so a dealer visit will be needed or somebody else with the correct diagnostic equipment. We had to have this done on a C4 that needed a new one after accident damage and the repairer did not have the equipment to do it. It is hard to imagine how there would be any pressure in the brakes if they were not being used unless the diagnostics ran the abs pump and actuated the hydraulic valves.

A link to Pam's posts http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6817-2003-c8-timing-belt-car-going-to-the-grave/ Once fixed, she could not afford the £5000 bill, Citroen would not help, so traded it in plus finance and got a Picasso. It includes a reason for the cam belt failures - apparently rain gets on to the belt and it causes early failure - some countries had a recall to fit a cover and it is on later models. There are lots of other C8 cam belt failures in the post and mentions of the injector removal problem. Without knowing the full details, I find it sad that you appear to be taking the blame for an engine design problem, possibly lack of knowledge by the company management and possibly lack of suitable equipment to do the job. One specialist company in Pam's post mentions having to use a 20 tonne press to remove the injectors - something I would imagine most garages will not have.

Welcome to the forum. One of the best people to help on this may be coastline taxis. He is away this weekend but next week should be able to provide info. I think it is well known the injectors are difficult to remove, especially on the 2.2 hdi engine, and specialist help may be needed. You could try a search on the forum but I found this one on a C8 which may help (if the link works) from glynnpt on 16 December 2010. http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/9032-c8-diesel-injectors/?hl=injectors

Haynes quotes 1.7 litres for the petrol and 1.5 litres for the diesel but does not cover the 2.2 hdi and it is not in the car handbook. The Citroen manual gives it as 1.7 litres but on the earlier 2.2 hdi as 1.5 litres.

Aircon Blows Hot And Cold On Different Sides..!
paul.h replied to citrophile's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
If you have to pay for a Lexia session it could cost more than the fix. A regass is about £50 at our Citroen dealer and a flap motor about £60 + if needed, fitting costs. Our C5 was 7 years old when it needed the regass. If you want to check a flap motor, you can unbolt it and turn the flap by hand. Also if there is enough refrigerant, the temp should drop 10°C or more in to the cabin, so you could stick a thermometer in the central air vent and you ought to see less than 10°C. -
Welcome to the forum. The mpg display was not on the early C3, our 2003 1.4sx does not have it. On other Citroens it is seen by pushing on the button on the end of the wiper stalk.

Aircon Blows Hot And Cold On Different Sides..!
paul.h replied to citrophile's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
I had the 2 sides at different temperatures and it turned out to be low on refrigerant - there was not enough to cool the full length of the evaporator matrix. Maybe you could check this by pulling out the cabin filter and seeing if the matrix is cold at both ends. I did try replacing an air flap motor first (about £60) but made no difference. From memory, the flap motor at the passenger side will not be too awkward to replace and is located in front of the cabin filter on the same side. -
Never had a C8 but I suspect you will have to keep pulling and try to pull each side evenly so it does not snag at one side. If it catches at one side, push it back in a bit and try again but excessive force will not be needed.

C5 Mk1 2.2Hdi Estate (2001 Model) - Fuel Flap Open
paul.h replied to ej2095's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
I have done some checks on our C5 2007 2.2 hdi estate. To get the fuel flap warning up (a picture on our car), the fuel tank filler cap has to be off the car. Leaving the fuel flap open or pushing that switch does not do anything - the switch is probably only to push the flap open and probably does not have any electrical parts so forget about it. The filler cap contains 2 magnets on the filler neck side which are sensed inside the car and are used as part of the system to inject eolys fluid in to the diesel tank, so the car knows when it has been filled with diesel and applies on cars with the exhaust particulate filter like yours. So, the things to check are - is the filler cap the original Citroen one, does it still have the magnets in it - the sensor on the inside of the wing. If you still have a working exhaust particulate filter it is probably worth sorting this since if the eolys fluid is not being injected then the filter may block up. Many have had this filter removed or drilled out and the ecu software modified to remove references to the filter rather than pay the cost of the fluid topping up and the filter replacing at about 70k miles -
I would also recommend eurocarparts. When replacing our C3 1.4 petrol battery they were the lowest price for a good battery. I fit an Exide Excell 450 amp one since the original 300 amp one was a bit underpowered in winter to start the car. This battery is a bit longer but still fits in the battery housing and has a 3 year guarantee.
-
A bit of grease on the cable end and in the latch might sort this. Also check the cable is not fraying and about to snap.

Thanks for the feedback and I am pleased it was not an expensive fix. I have now edited the note in the common problems post to include spark plug replacement before condemning the injectors.

C5 Mk1 2.2Hdi Estate (2001 Model) - Fuel Flap Open
paul.h replied to ej2095's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
That is the switch shown in the parts diagrams, there ought to be an electrical connector to plug on to it, probably hanging inside the wheel arch. Edited, see next post -
On the General Discussions and Nonsense pages, there is a link to a Citroen recall site where can do a one off check and see if your car has had this brake recall.

C5 2.2 Hdi 173 Bhp Dpf 2009 - Loss Of Power
paul.h replied to cassius1218's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
The suspension sensors may just need spraying with something like wd40 to free them up and then take the suspension up/down a few times to clear the rust. The sensors may be on anti roll bars at the front and rear of the car. If you do this, put the car on axle stands so there is no risk of the suspension dropping whilst under the car. -
Our C4 has the fog lights that switch on if the headlights are on at speeds below 25 mph when turning the steering wheel or the indicators are used (it is enabled/disabled on the radio menu). It does help to see the inside corner kerb at the end of our street which is poorly lit. I sometimes think it could be confusing though to other road users when only one side fog light comes on at a corner/junction.
-
Welcome to the forum. These are all speed related so it could be a problem with one of the wheel abs sensors or may be the brake light switch. You could have a look at these but a dealer diagnostic check will tell you what is wrong without trial and error part replacement.

Citreon Xsara Picasso 2.0 Lx Hdi 2002 Model. (Help Please)
paul.h replied to poolielad's topic in Technical Section
From cars with RPO no. 9492, the control block under the steering wheel with the wiper and indicator stalks (comms 2000 unit) contains the receiver for the key fob remote. Cars before that RPO no. I do not know what is installed. If the key fob is not at fault, then it could be a problem with the comms unit but to check this would need a dealer diagnostic check. A new fob on our Picasso in 2005 was about £60, so 8 years later £100 may be about right and it would need to be initialised to the car using a dealer Lexia. The car RPO no. can be found in the car handbook/service book and on the car tyre pressure sticker on one of the front door pillars. There are 2 key fob synchronisation methods, depending on the car age. 4. Synchronisation of HF PLIP remote controls - early carsPerform the following operations :Put the HF key to be synchronised in position "ignition +"Press on the locking button (big button) on the HF keyWait between 5 and 10 secondsRelease the locking button on the HF keySwitch off the ignition with the HF keyWait 3 secondsThe ignition key HF PLIP is synchronised. 4. Synchronisation of HF PLIP remote controls - later cars (multiplexing assembly CAN VAN).N.B. : When replacing the batteries of an HF PLIP remote control, it is necessary to resynchronise the remote control.Perform the following operations :Put the HF key to be synchronised in position "ignition +"Within the next 10 seconds, press one of the HF key buttonsRelease the HF key buttonThe ignition key HF PLIP is synchronised. -
I suppose in theory, if you have self levelling suspension, then the headlights would not need to be self levelling since the car is always level, as opposed to standard suspension where the car level is affected by load distribution. As such, our C5s have not had a headlight level switch as fitted to the C4s and C3 we have had.

Citreon Xsara Picasso 2.0 Lx Hdi 2002 Model. (Help Please)
paul.h replied to poolielad's topic in Technical Section
You get read and print the handbook from the service.citroen website, documentation de bord, select language, then choose your car. The one shown is for the 2005 to 2009 model but probably most of it will still apply. http://service.citroen.com/ddb/ using the mouse right button I have found is an easy way to print. Does the central locking work using the dash button to help eliminate possible causes such as a blown fuse ? If it is the key fob at fault then a dealer will supply a new one. I guess you only have 1 since I think when new, the car only came with one fob and one separate key without the fob.
