I had the same problem but fitted a more expensive battery. If you want we can compare battery ratings. Mine was definitely dying (I use a £5 voltmeter plugged into the cigarette lighter on cars now) and my Citroen indy garage advised me that if it remained problematic they would check to see if new software had been issued, as they had seen a lot of problems with overly aggressive Eco mode to protect the battery on the C4 Picasso. Mine lasts a bit longer than 5 minutes but at about 20 minutes you are in Eco land. The problem is finding someone who will tell you the truth rather than wanting to "look at the car" and charge you. The only other suggestion I would make would be to check that both Earth and the thick Positive strap are 100% free from corrosion and securely tightened, with one car I was losing nearly 0.75 V due to corroded straps. Replacing both solved some problems. Buy a £5 voltage meter to place in the ciggy lighter to be sure that the battery is charging well and is retaining charge. It may be best if the mods moved this post to the C5 section, as some who read that may not look here.

Citroen has been owned by Peugeot since the mid 1970s, after the major sales problems they had with the SM (less than 15,000 sold) and the CX at the beginning of the fuel crisis. Citroen owned Maserati in the late 1960s and that was where the idea for the SM came from, with the 6 cylinder 2.7 V6. Soon PSA will be mostly owned by Doafeng (sp?) and the intellectual property will head to China along with the manufacturing. My caution would be that the C5 III can be bad for road noise and is tyre selection sensitive for the same....

IIRC the bolts are loaded with some sort of non hardening thread locking compound on the threads?

I've just bought the RTA manual and oddly enough it gives the torque with the temporary over ride as being the same as without it. The later 2.0 HDi is phenomenal - I've got a 2007 407 and a 2008 C5 with supposedly the same engine, and the C5 is just so much quicker and quieter, although the 407 has 130k on the clock vs 50k on the C5.

Peugeot-Citroen In Trouble
Randombloke replied to seefive's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Unfortunately they've been outplayed on the cheap front, trying to sell DS3s in the region of €20k when the Dacia Duster is under €10k.Their big hope is the 208.... No traditional large Citroen estate. Poor quality bits and screwing people on particulate filter issues, like the low fluid warning only being possible to reset if the tank is refilled to the top, not something you'd do with a 120k mile car assuming it would get to 240k. Why does it need a reset? Just topping it up should do..... DMF that lasts only 120k miles. Early HDi cambelt issues. 1.6 turbo issues. Enjoying too much in dividends one year and not putting enough aside or investing enough. Closing the big factory in the North of Paris where jobs for the 8,000 put out of work will be almost impossible to find. Resting on their laurels whilst the likes of Kia built themselves up from nothing. PSA 7 year guarantee? Will the car get that far? I'd be surprised if there was any large element of PSA still in France in ten years time, and there may be no PSA in ten years time. Seems odd driving back from France today seeing all those bottom end C5 Mk IIIs with the rear ends squatting down. Mine is an Exclusive so still levels up. PS - Mk III C5 RTA manual available in France, bought one, covers 1.6 & 2.0 HDi.(Called Mk II but covers 03/2008->) -
Check MAP/MAF sensors, both from the point of wiring and of any tubing connecting them to to the main manifold. If either is not working or disconnected it would give the symptoms you mention, but that should be flagged up by diagnostics. The 1.6 HDi isn't ideal for a car the size of the C5 - a friend had a Mk2 1.6HDi and the performance left a lot to be desired. That reminds me, check under the accelerator that the the microswitch for the extra oomph is working, and is not being fouled by aftermarket carpets.

Bluetooth 2009 Vtr+ C5 ?
Randombloke replied to Kertrats24's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I have a 2008 Tourer Exclusive also with no BT. I've asked a Citroen indy and a main dealer about this and the main dealer would just like to fit a Parrot. Indy uses a good fitter ewho I'm talking to ATM. I'm thinking about fitting the Dension 500 Pro BT to interact with the car display and steering wheel controls, will report back if I ever get my a**e in gear. -
Sounds like you've been abused by a main dealer, and need to search out a good independent.

Front Suspension Doesn't Go Up And Down..!
Randombloke replied to citrophile's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
The height corrector for the front suspension is connected to the anti roll bar, you must have disconnected it to remove it, have you reconnected it? -
As I understand it the option to turn off the sensors is for the Mk 2. I looked into this for my mark 1 and it could not be done. There was a time when the sensors were as little as £25 for OEM when they were £125 from Citroen, look on eBay or via the specialist tyre sensor on line shops.. I had two fitted. For fuel consumption reasons (we discussed on here a while back) it was found to be advantageous to run the tyres up to 10% over the recommended pressure or to run with the heavy load/high speed settings. Get a digital tyre pressure gauge on eBay. Find a good indy to do the job. A Citroen franchise won't be interested in you bypassing their £125 earner.

So many faults - check the battery condition, yes, I know it starts, but what is the voltage when the engine is off and when it's running. Check looms joints and connections to things like the BSI, BUT only do this after following the correct battery disconnect procedure, and then perform a BSI reset. Otherwise, post a rough location and members will advise of a good Citroen independent.

Excessive Front Brake Pad Wear On One Side Only
Randombloke replied to redwine's topic in Technical Section
Possibly relevant fact: BX, Xantia, Mk1&2 C5 have classic Citroen hand brake, it works on the front discs. Either the calliper is binding or the handbrake cable to that side is binding. Usually with a sliding calliper it's the pins it slides on that are sticky. If you know what you are doing, set the vehicle to the highest suspension setting, chock the rear wheels and then jack up the affected wheel. With both hand brake off and the car out of gear see how much the brake is binding. If you turn the steering to full lock you should be able to see the actuation level that the handbrake cable pulls on. With the hand brake off, see if you can push this level any further towards the off position. If so, the cable is sticking. If not, it the sliding bit of the calliper that is sticking. If you do not know what you are doing, find a decent Citroen independent and take the car there. Most garages do not seem to have the necessary knowledge of the suspension or braking systems on a hydraulic Citroen to do a a good job. -
C5 Exclusive Front Suspension
Randombloke replied to dyndrwg's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
It's an Exclusive, so it should be H3+ rather than coil springs. With hydropneumatic suspension, the struts are often slightly moist, which some non Citroen mechanics interprete as a leak and a failure. Might be worthy finding a local Citroen indy who can do the MOT for you and can tell the difference between slightly moist and leaking. @ Coastline - unfortunately despite awesome reliability now people still think Citroen suspension is its weak point, and will buy a 1.6 HDi C5 MkIII with coil springs over a 2.0 Exclusive. The suspension is not the weak point, compared to DPF, DMF and somne other "features" on the engines. -
Why not remind us which car it is? Petrol or diesel? Use the BBA - Reman site for PSA codes or Google http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?content=Peugeot_citroen_fault_codes_ignition_system_P13XX P1352 Ignition coil A Primary circuit Malfunction / SID 801- Pre/Post heating relay circuit - Relay & Pre-Heat plugs not controlled. You may wish to consider an EGR blanking plate for £2.50 on eBay.

Worth checking that the flaps that set the temperature are still being correctly driven by the motors, and that the gears on same are not stripped. Search form for more info. This fault is usually one side or the other, but if you do not have split temperature control it could still be the issue. The chiller may not be getting any airflow across it....

Sombody Please Tell Me I Havent Just Bought A Pup!
Randombloke replied to UVG's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I defer to Coastline here, we all do, but I am going to guess that the misfire is a crank or cam position sensor. However, you will usually get an error message from those. If no message it could be fuel, so time for at least one tank of non supermarket fuel as Coastline says. I bought a basic Autel diag handset to check for basic faults. It only covers engine, is not good with manufacturer specific codes but is OK. They seem to be easy to sell on so maybe try one of those. My local indy has not seen the problems that Coastline has with 1.6HDi but then they do have the high mileage ones on their books, and the majority are 2.0, which is, IMV in last gen C5 at 138 bhp is well sorted. You could try a DPF regen by driving at a constant-ish speed on an open road. I can't remember the details but at certain speeds with engine warm the system will try to regenerate the DPF before it gets blocked. -
Get one of these on eBay and run with it in the cigarette lighter socket: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/LED-Car-Battery-Electric-Cigarette-Lighter-Voltmeter-Voltage-Meter-DC-12V-24V-/00/s/NDUxWDUwMA==/z/Cr8AAMXQjWtRKwIe/$T2eC16RHJHQE9nzEzND4BRKwId)h8!~~60_12.JPG

Can I suggest that you buy one of these? http://i.ebayimg.com/t/LED-Car-Battery-Electric-Cigarette-Lighter-Voltmeter-Voltage-Meter-DC-12V-24V-/00/s/NDUxWDUwMA==/z/Cr8AAMXQjWtRKwIe/$T2eC16RHJHQE9nzEzND4BRKwId)h8!~~60_12.JPG It's on eBay as a LED Car Battery Electric Cigarette Lighter Voltmeter Voltage Meter DC 12V-24VThis will allow you to see charging and battery state problems before they get serious. Be wary as on some Citroen cars the socket remains live to if left in it will flatten the battery. Recommended.

The Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine as you refer to it as is often tuned and used in small microlights. An awesome design of many roles. It's also free of diagnostic and sensor based hassles. :D Glad you got it sorted.....

That's useful to know. I wondered whether there was a combined Bluetooth and Tyre sensor receiver that could be unplugged. Obviousl;y from your reply, there isn't. My car has no TPMS, but may have been supplied with it. I will have to contact the original dealer. Have you got a model number or costs? Do you have any other info from your dealer? I've looked at the Dension brochure and it seems that their Bluetooth unit, which also offers USB and music streaming wirelessly, will plug into the CD changer plug on the rear of the head unit. This would allow a tablet like a Nexus 7/Asus Fonepad to stream music, run Google Maps and do all other manner of things and be used elsewhere, too. I was looking at mounting the Nexus 7 in the car then using this as a GPS/Jukebox with a SIM from 3. If it's simply a matter of getting a better head unit, that would be a good road to go down. I assume the new head unit will have to be coded into the car.

I'd be interested to see how long the DMF will last at this power/torque level, or how long the transmission will last if no DMF. The rattle/knock could be the anti roll bar coupling.
-
I had the glass popping open problem and have posted a detailed fix here, you'll have to search the forum. It's usually that the micro-switch that operates the rear window needs replacement IMV. The rear and front washers run off the same pump, rear is done when the pump runs in one direction and front when it runs in the other direction. Again, details on the forum from a while ago but you will need to run a search.

It seems like Bluetooth is an optional extra with the 2008 -> C5. Mine has the same problem, but interestingly despite the manual saying that particular model of radio is Bluetooth capable, there is no Bluetooth menu on the small orange LCD screen. Options seem to be to get Citroen to retro fit it (quoted £400) or to fit a Bluetooth and USB box from the Dension rage - http://www.dension.com/sites/default/files/car-compatibility/citroen-12-10-12.pdf for cars supported. My car is fitted with this head unit: http://shop.dension.com/headpictures/citroen_rd4_2.png Allegedly this unit will interface with the car including steering wheel controls: http://www.dension.com/product/gateway-pro-bt and this is what it looks like: http://shop.dension.com/images/transp.gif http://www.dension.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/comp-select/6048.jpg Does your car have sensing tyre valves fitted? This is a long shot..... I'm trying to solve this problem too...

Pain In The Rear End C5 Grrrr
Randombloke replied to phil734's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
It may be that whatever measures brake pressure is faulty. Diagnostics need interpretation.
