  1. very difficult one there mate but if you have it in writing the car is mechanically sound then you could take it to trading standards for giving false information, they will tell you if you have a comeback and a case
  2. is the clutch slipping to test that put it in high gear then accelerate hard if the revs go high and the car goes slow its a slipping clutch
  3. my appols im not sure if it would work on the C5 but it should if its as new as 2004 that when the EOBD became law and CAN bus was being used ELM327 is a topic on a few sites, http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/engine-man...oesnt-work.html http://www.ecuworld.com/
  4. is the suspension working alright? does it go up as it should? is the suspension hard? it could be the accumulator sphere is beging to fail and that would put too much pressure on the system and leak from that particular area as there is a bypass valve at the rear inteded for that, http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DG
  5. I bought a kit from halfords and lasted me 15 years and covered the star drive sachets or hex keys as they are called its on sale at the moment for £99 and covers full replacement warranty for life ( even snap on dont do that ) they test the tool to make sure you complied with its use, halfords just give you a new one free
  6. not an easy one because of your lack of knowledge on computers ( that's not an insult by any means ) I was on the PC in 1985 when the games machines were around and ill bet you were on the omega relevant to the play station today ;) very nice system indeed and had lots of fun there but times moved on and even I find it hard to keep up ;)
  7. http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/nov97/gas.htm conversation going the wrong way my appols
  8. don't waste your time there the system is far more complicated than that because it uses multiplex and an old system, ELM 327 is also multi protocol but restricted to engine management because of free software and a licensed software is required to probe the full system
  9. head gasket ;)
  10. sticking thermostat comes to mind fit a new one or the cylinder head has a bad point not solved by skimming the head between the cylinders and its over pressurising the cooling system so a coolant system pressure test would need to be done
  11. ok it sounds like the fuel cut off switch has been activated which shuts the fuel system off, I can only go by the xantia HDi because I dont have data on the C5 but the switch is near the driver side suspension sphere, Ive managed to get a copy of Citroen EPS / TIS 2008 but having problems installing it i cant get the pictures to work but ill get there in the end
  12. yes that was the older type and made out of cast iron the new ones are plastic ( just the link arm ) and the cup on the ends has to be pressed on to the ball so no clip required they have a washer made from material that lubricates the joint where the older one had a plastic insert which wore away and the link arm would drop off or snap, its an area that people forget to lubricate and we now know the result, the underside of the car is as important if not more so as polishing the nice paint work
  13. ELM327 is ok but depends if its serial ( best type ) or USB, software if free and doesnt do much but you should get a disk with it for a serial converter to USB ( that's why the serial is better ) it can get complicated if your not into computers because you have to set the comms port which you get a reminder when you load the software up. totally useless on the Citroen but heard very good with most other cars I have both cereal and USB and they work well with engine management so you would need the fully licenced software from ELM for that same as VAG tool ( mainly designed for the newer cars with CAN bus ) but works on the fords
  14. simple one here then, put you working key in the ignition and turn to auxiliary then hold the fob withing 10 cm of the receiver press and hold the lock/unlock button for 20 seconds ( some cars you have to press the button 20 times as fast as you can ) then remove you key from the ignition then test the new fob, if it doesn't work the key has been programed to another car and only a diagnostic tool can clear it, good thing with the age of that car is its not a chipped key and good luck :)
  15. simplest way is to drill the center out with a small drill bit so you don't damage the threads, the dealer will have a tool and most tyre fitting places have it and the tyre fitter could charge £20 approx and the dealer will probably try to sell you a new car lol or try to say its the engine at fault to get you dosh :)
  16. F15 fuse in the car is the fuse for the engine coolant blower motor control module, multifunction control modual, under bonnet fuse box F3 fuse for the fan 120W/200W 1998 on
  17. im not sure if your car has a run on fan when the car is switched off to allow system pressure to drop or a fuse/relay has gone bad worth checking it out and ill look through the data I have
  18. it sounds like a water pressure problem ensure the fan cuts in and the air in the car is hot if not then suspect air in the cooling system
  19. its true the simplest things cause the biggest headache like not using the aircon during cold times and systems sticking ( AC should be used at least once a month hot or cold ) just for a second to keep it working, im sure there are many things on these newer cars that rarely get used once they are set up electrical that is seat/ mirrors just a couple of things :)
  20. techbod

    Front Pads

there is a picture of it in this link about half way down and halfords have them in for £20 you could use a pair of large crock pliers and a g clamp to push the piston in while turning it and not a lot of pressure required. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...5GB285%26sa%3DN
  21. strange for it to overheat when you've done all that but as long as the fans cut in I cant see what the problem is, when you bled the system did you have the heat turned to high in the car? if not you would have air in the heater matrix
  22. you got the other one :o I wondered who got it :) do the certificates really count ( not the swimming ones lol )? I know lots of people who are really good if not better at mechanics than those who are time served because they are into everything and not restricted like in the trade and make things happen the real tech is not permitted due to regulations unless its there own car of course and out side of the company :) so its a case of respect where its deserved not the amount of certs we have
  23. yes im into the older cars because they have history and the jag is one of them the good old days is still with me because you can do things the new cars take away from you like diagnostics so it becomes an expense on its own ( it nice to do it ) but give me the old carburetor any day ;) Ill draw a line at the shower thing though lol
  24. has the alarm been terminated /switched off if not both alarms will chatter electronically and make the alarm go off, an aftermarket alarm fitted to a car that has a system built in will cause chatter
  25. I served my time with jag but it was a sweat shop then Ive advanced since them but still remember the old days and the new days because it was a need to know, jag put me through an intensive course for free on the new cars as many companies did and I still have ties with the company, Ill never forget my grounding ;) very impressive back ground there mlkey but seriously it wasn't my intention to prove my self in any way or bring anyone down ( I know there are many very qualified techs on many sites ) who's aim is to gain brownie points but im past that so no disrespect intended. have a great day indeed ;)
