  1. well lets look at it another way ( do you need special tools ) when a good working knowledge on these things can help save money or just go and buy a bush replacement tool or think how you could make one, the answer is to encourage you to to use your imagination to save money ;)
  2. ahh the old days when they didn't have these fancy tools, http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DN
  3. I would think the picasso would be similar if not the same its only the shape that's different http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/...erm=%22xsara%22
  4. sweet sticky smell points to the matrix or piping as its coolant/antifreeze you can smell and you should notice lose of coolant
  5. you shouldn t need to disconnect the battery because its global memory system so if you loose battery contact you need to reset all the windows/ sunroof etc to the memory in the ECU and that's when you press and hold each button all the way up and down to memorise it
  6. does it squeak only when you press the clutch peddle? if yes then you need to get some spray grease what the bikers use for the chains and it lasts longer than wd40
  7. Ive seen this problem a few times and it was down to wiring on the blower motor so the glove box might need to be taken out to get at it, mine did that and it was sheer luck sorting it so didn't really pinpoint it but I checked all the electrics and every component since then its been great, t was a pig when it was raining and the fan just stopped
  8. well the xantia has 16 relays because it has more gadgets but if yours only has 4 the probably the horn/ electric windows/ fogs / sunroof/ heated seats assuming they are fitted of course ;)
  9. excellent reply +10 for that I wasn't thinking it was electronic set up ;)
  10. if the cooling fans cut in and it doesn't over heat it could be down to the thermostat sticking so a new stat wont harm and new coolant 50%50 mix

    Fuel Filter

no need to bleed as its supposedly automatic but I recommend filling the filter with diesel so it helps the system recover faster
  12. idle control valve or throttle body needs cleaning, the problem is the idle drops too low and the engine shuts down ( normally associate with any load like aircon ) throttle body clean and MAF check is normal and vacuum leaks swap ya ;)
  13. pretty basic info there most of it in the 1st link others are VSS = vehicle speed sensor - ECT = coolant temps - MAP = air volume in the inlet manifold the rest are vacuum and fuel related but it seems you diagnostic tool doesn't support them, http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/9497faq/t...iles/041704.pdf http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=na...5&q=SHRTFT1 this might help understand freeze frame data
  14. I would let it dry out fully or use a hair drier, it sounds like its in limp mode so find the fuse to the tranny ECU and remove it to clear the fault code
  15. even my data doesn't show what the relays or fuses for the zx but I would think its the same on the xantia and if it is it will be the 3rd from the right top line
  16. not a very good way to check the speed because the other car might have been pulling away from you even though you think it wasn't so very unreliable, good luck at the garage
  17. you might just be throwing more money away without being absolutely sure, the HPI engine is interesting so a good link there to explain it http://sysdoc.doors.ch/PEUGEOT/hpi_2000_05...51017850765.pdf another site that seems to be on topic with the HPI engine so worth a look on there for people having the same issues as you, http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18962.0 http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/index.php/top...1.html#msg46221 while looking at those codes I noticed this ( EDC16C3 ) and its do do with chip tuning/ flashing for the ECU, probably nothing important as I would say the problem is in the wiring rather than the sensor but interesting on the tuning thing
  18. here are all the codes ;) http://www.pikit.co.uk/peugeotmt/psa%20eobd%20p%20codes.html
  19. EGR is a pain in the butttt for this problem and Citroen do know what the fault code means ( they just don't want you to know ) they use P0 codes to confuse people and don't use P1 codes to throw you off the scent, the main thing is to look at all the items that are connected to the emissions like EGR valve/ o2 sensors/ EVAP system/ canister purge valve/ exhaust - air leaks all of which could cause this problem so its hard to pin it down unless the take the car for a run with the diagnostic tool connected so they can log the fault ( called data logging ) and they know how to do that as well but would prefer to keep throwing new parts at it and that's when it gets expensive, I runn extensive tests on the cars ive done to pinpoint the problem with the lowest cost and its a pity Citroen don't do the same in fact all dealers do the same regardless of make of car
  20. I had to look on eBay just to see what the remote looks like lol http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-C4-XSARA-PIC...86.c0.m14.l1318 so its a flip key and it will be riveted in so you would need to open the fob to get to the rivet and im sure the dealers will have the new part which would be a rivet
  21. not sure if it has an o2/lambda sensor at that age or a catalyst but to get the emissions down use a good fuel additive like slick50, change the oil and filter, new air filter, clean the throttle body out and that should do the trick
  22. the speed is normally out by 5 mph but the other way round 35 = 30 at least that's what my sat nav says, you cant alter it unless you have access to diagnostic tools, have you done any wheel mods? how do you know its going faster than the speedo says? sat nav by chance if yes then use the sat nav to control your speed till you get it sorted
  23. £1.50 for them to diagnose when all you need to do is ask here for free?
  24. coolant temp sensor will be near the thermostat housing along with the fan switch but the switch could be on the radiator on the older cars, better to wire it up to a switched live so it only comes on then the ignition is on
  25. never really had a problem with this, an old friend hearse driver cough cleaned his with water and a chamois, he sprayed the dust/grit/dirt off then once in a while he use the McGuire's stuff and that's what I use
