  1. Some publications wil express data in the form of mph/1000 in top gear. The higher the figure the longer the gear. Also depends on whether its petrol or diesel. A typical small petrol car would be 17mph per 1000prm so at 68 mph the car screams on 4000 rpm A medium-large diesel is typically 27-35mph per 1000rpm. Medium-large petrol about 19-23mph per 1000 rpm. Some like that Grand Hearse Vel Satis's automatic gearbox with a V6 3 litre diesel does 100 mph on 2000 rpm so at the national speed limit - you have stalled the engine.
  2. Cliff/Ann Had this sites server not gone t!ts up, the postings between March 2003 and July 2004 would not have not been wiped out. Most of them were C3 related postings and it did not make happy reading.
  3. Welcome to the C3 Club! Good luck in getting them fixed!
  4. Its a good car. Best Citroen I have owned. Underrated and sold in small numbers. If it had a VW badge then the motoring world would have kittens. But no so as is a nasty citroen made worse by a nasty price cull.
  5. Failing warning lights is a problem in the AX and can be costly to fix. Your talking at least £100 at a franchised dealer to check the bulbs alone.
  6. Hmm a posting originating from 2003. I think the autnchanger must have been fitted by now.
  7. Sounds awfully complex. I suppose just a simple button was asking for too much. Is there any way to disable the self canceling child locks?
  8. The stiffness of the steering is dependent on speed. Feels good. As for vibrations, thats just something your gonna have to live with in your C3.
  9. Alan Yes I agree with you, its not a fault (fuel gauge) As for the oil gauge, thats a totally useless feature. Mine constantly registers full.
  10. What problems you having? The fault I face with mine is the mileage range I get from each light are not the same. When the car is filled, the first light gives me 60 miles 2 - 135 miles 3 - 145 miles 4 - 135 miles 5 - 130 miles 6 + orange light - thirty miles. Orange light - never ran the tank dry yet.
  11. Need more information than this. When does it happen etc etc.... What are you doing etc etc......
  12. The temperature sensor for the climate control is situated in the grilled enclosure below the overspeed warning button. Check for obstructions. The temperature display on the controls aren't all that accurate anyway. Set the temperature at 22 and in reality thr temparature is 20-24 degrees (so why include this as a feature) Still, it looks like a nice sophisticated system you see on luxury cars but for the luddites - a complete nightmare.
  13. Mark i THINK you were told a load of baloney. When I had the EGR problem, I was told a part would arrive ina w eek. One week later they said "a few days". After three weeks I was told it was a coded part and that it it means a part is built for that particular car liek spare keys etc and takes 6 weeks. Following week I was told that the dealer was ringing Peugeot and other Citroen delaerships for spare EGR (hmm I thought it was coded part and had to be built to order) Part fixed after 2 months and it was not the problem. The word "coded" is used to fob you off. Next time you need to fill the washer bottle, citroen will tell you that using tap water invalidates the warranty and you must use Citroen Water. However Citroen water is a coded part........... you get the picture. Good luck.
  14. "4 weeks and still not egr valve or display dash. Citroen won't get back to me, Citroen Finance ignore my letters. Moaned to a French guy about waiting 7 months for a fault to be fixed and he said "Ofcourse, you bought a french car in england". Not sure what he meant by that but can take a guess" 4 weeks? If it arrives next week, then you are lucky. Did you insist on having a techician for a morning from another franchise in Cumbria? Something is being poorly diagnosed here because if you are suffering loss of power...... why are you still experieicing this. I was diagnosed as having a faulty EGR without the technician even setting foot in the car!!!!!! Citroen Finance won't do anytthing. Ring Citroen UK and ask for Gavin Hil from customer services and ask for a case number. Do you want trading standards number in Slough that deals with complaints at Citroen UK? The Citroen is a good car. Okay its not assembled as well as say Honda, Toyota etc but the biggest problem that blights these cars is the terrible workmanship and the poor parts distribution. Good luck Moose, hope your anguish ends soon.
  15. But further down the handbook it says the radio can be operated even without the key in the ignition

    Cd Tuner

Does the radio work without the key in the ignition?
  17. Ahh the 325 tds. A classic when it came out in 93. My father had an black automatic SE version from 93-00. Lovely car - packed with extras like cruise and air con. He loved it, was sad to see it go but it was getting costly to run especially with service intervals every 6-7.5 k plus the annual inspection. Engine sounded like a V8 - fastest diesel in its day. The 320d will serve you well but the 330d is a different gravy entirely.
  18. Bob. "The first light on the guage gives me about 90 miles and the second to last about 175 so they must be influenced by the shape of the tank I assume." Yes I agree with you there. The mileage covered by the first light is rather pish compared with the other lights on the gauge. The final light range is equally pish. The others are fine but not as fine as your range of 175 mls which is pretty damn impressive even for the motorway driving you do. He is my summary Light 1 60 miles 2 125 miles 3 130 miles 4 130 miles 5 125 miles 6 to final orange light 40 miles 610 from 43 litres of fuel ain't at all bad..... Cannot complain as at 11500 miles I still think the car is not properly run in. Still better than what most other small diesels can manage. See how much the test figures differ from Govt values in Autoexpress for example.
  19. That is some trek. M55...err Blackpool? At the mo the orange light (no final bar) comes on anywhere between 540 and 610. Re: Brimming I was told you must not continue to fill the car if the pump clicks three times. Why? I ask because I stop at three clicks and I swear I can add tonnes more.
  20. Richard Yes I knew about the flashing courtesy light if the door is open and you drive off. Did not know the auto hazard lights were linked to speed and not pedal pressure. I thought the damn thing did not work. Any luck in sorting out the kid proof locks as I have the same problem. Owners manual is poor. Brakes are very good.
  21. Yeah its early days. You won;t get decent economy (or figures close to the gov figures) until after its first service.

Grimmers Speak to Alan Bunstead: 01753 875255 He is in Trading Standards in Slough who deals with Citroen complaints. Also contact your local trading standard office to complain about your dealer. Ring Citroen UK asking for Gavin Hill. Write to them too highlighting your problems with dates etc and make a few ultimatums (legal advice, write to car magazines etc.) 08706069000 Citroen UK Ltd 221 Bath Road Slough SL14BA. Good luck, you'll need it. You have no chance of getting a replacement as its more than a month old and done more than 1000 miles. Even if you did qualify, you still would have a battle on your hands.
  23. Yes I regard 600 miles as a safe bet. (I thought we are supposed to get nearly 66 to a gallon - oh well) The final circular orange light suggests there are around 4 litres left. I get the feeling there is more than that and you can travel more than 600. Was told by a technician that the fuel gauge is calculated via variables including by the way the car is driven and the average fuel consumption. There are no sensors in the tank!!!!!!!

    My C3

Thanks IMW and Alan. I have always maintained the fact that I dearly love my C3 whilst hating the manufacturer and it says a lot when I am willing to keep it now when i could easily buy something else. Okay some postings in the past especially in mid April were written in the heat of the moment where I threatened to burn my car and would not waste any urine outtign the flames out. I have also said that not all C3's go wrong and if you are one of the lucky ones then good on you. I have highlighted the fact that things can get misdiagnosed and poorly fitted. At first what was thought to be engine management failure was in fact a clutch switch that costs a fiver and takes 10 minutes to fix. I think some should know about this especially when it took 10 visits to the dealership to finally sort it out. You need to know that it took 5 weeks to wait for a part only to find out it was not the cause of the problem. The past 10 weeks have been hellish and I would not want that to happen to anyone including you Madman (I say this with clenched teeth) but now its fixed and regardless of the fact theres still minor glitches, I am glad the car is running proplerly. When you witness poor workmanship, do you want to keep your mouth shut? No.
  25. Alan I am glad. Okay the wait was a pain but I am glad it was nothing serious in the engine. I have a smile and very bad wind. I am glad I have my car back. There is nothing else there that is well specified and has character like the C3. I always said this even when my car was crocked. Yes I remember the Punto being car of the Year. I also remember the Renault (Rubbish) 9 being car of the year back in 1983. Remember the Fiat Strada? Where is my medication?!
