Cost of my 50,000 mile service done two years to the day since she was first driven off the forecourt was £170. Now the question is do I trade in a near immaculate 50,000 mile Multispace with just under 10,000 miles left on the warranty for the new 1.6HDi 92bhp model whilst it's still got warranty, or do I run it for another couple of years? It's such a purdy M'space too in that Mediterranean Blue with alloys, Electric Sunroof, ABS/Safety pack and aircon. All the toys!! TronX

Nice!! I made a mistake about those tyres! The Toyos were great handlers wet or dry, but were not very long lasting. They replaced a set of Yokohamas which were the ones that were rubbish in the wet. TronX

I loved that car! The TD Volcane seemed so dam' FAST!!... Even though I guess the HDi engine in the 'Lingo is more powerful, there was something about the Volcane that seemed so much more nippy. Was yours a TD or a really quick petrol one? TronX

Further to my previous post, the Barum Bravuris lasted less than 10,000 miles!! The original Michies lasted 24K, so I've gone back to them! TronX PS I used to like Toyo Proxes for dry handling on my ZX Volcane, but they were lethal in the wet.

Good idea to replace the VDO unit. Some 'Lingos have Clarion units which look identical, but actually pick up radio stations, or so I'm told. Don't know if sound quality is better. I played it safe and fitted the compatible Sony 6-disc changer in the slidey tray under the passenger seat, put in the Harman-Kardon dash tweeters available from Citroen at a silly price and exchanged the door speakers for Alpines, but now I have an iPod, it would be good to patch that in as well. Any ideas? Let us know how you get on with the Pioneer install ! TronX

I'll let you know what my 50,000 mile service costs tomorrow! I've had the HDi for exactly 2 years today, so clocking 'em up!! TronX

You won't get a damp door trim on a 'Lingo as they're 100% hard plastic with a token bit of rag on the top for a splash of colour! TronX

53 reg only I think....

Actualy, 'megane' is Japanese for 'spectacles' !! TronX

Hiya! Most people move from Wiltshire *to* Cornwall! This forum has been quiet of late, maybe we should try and contact ex members and let em know it's still here?........ TronX

Nice colour indeed! A bit more 'sensible' than some of the Multispace colours, more in line with the sober colour range offered on the Partner. Has anybody seen the metallic Olive Green yet? TronX

Just managed to get a comfortable 608 miles from a tank (55 litres...) 49.8 mpg. (Whilst achieving this figure, the HDi Forte clocked over the 40,000 mile mark, and now is 'just run in' I think!) Admittedly I was driving sensibly to achieve this figure, but the mix of urban/motorway/exrta-urban was quite typical, as was aircon on/off and sunroof open/shut, which all makes a difference. The OEM Michelin Energy tyres are now replaced by Barum Bravuris which apparently have a higher rolling resistance, so possibly up to 5% better than this is possible with the right rubber.

Can't see the logic in stuffing a couple of seats in the rear crumple zone and calling it a 7-seater. Fiat have done it with the Doglo and RustinAllover did it years ago with the Montego Wagon. Here they were even nastier as they faced the seats rearward so the occupants could witness their impending doom. If you need a 7 seater you need to move upmarket and buy a 7-seater, not a 5-seater with rear seats as afterthoughts. If you don't then an airbagged-up Lingo is as safe as a Multipla, and better in side impact. Have you seen how thin the Multipla's doors are? SCx

35-38 ish is usually all I get. If I drive like a granny I get 40-45. :(

Deep puddles do it for me too!! PS: On a totally different note! Download.com have made a few changes and we now have a shortcut link to http://download.com/sundaeclub and a rating system, so why not register, check out a Sundae Club instrumental for FREE, and rate us on the system. 5 stars please!! Cheers!! Tron

Yeah.... but they're *not* really cheap are they? Every 2CV I ever owned leaked a bit.... somewhere. But the 2CV *was* cheap. The cheapest car on the road at the time bar the crap Fiat 126. If the Pluriel had been a true 2CV replacement priced at around 6K, with a manual version of the silly hood, vinyl seats and rubber mats on the floors, then one would expect and put up with a few leaks; grin and bear it in the rain and smile in the sun. The seats and floor would shrug off the water and no harm would be done... ... But cars aren't cheap these days unless you buy second-hand, and as we all know, a second-hand Citroen is very cheap indeed. My next car may well be a Pluriel. Now I know what to expect after reading all these messages over the last year or so, I just might nip out and bag myself a real cheapie for around 4k, cover the seats with those cheap vinyl thingummies that you see covering the expensive leather upholstery of most expensive 4x4s these days (w***ers!) and put up with the drips. I could even hang on to the Lingo for when I wanted a practical car and dry pants.

Standard Saxo Head Unit Output
tronboy replied to Bucklejuice's topic in Questions about the Citroen Saxo
About 15Wpc! If you use high power quality speakers with this unit, the amplifier will possibly damage them at high levels due to 'clipping'. Change the head unit or buy a decent booster amp. -
My fronts wore out at 24K. Replaced with a budget Barum Bravuris made by Continental in some Eastern European Hell-hole. 45 nicker a piece, but rated top in a recent Auto Express tyre test, with Michies faring well on economy and NVH, but not a lot else. The Barums were good all-rounders. Curiously for such a cheap tyre, they're asymmetric. After 1,500 miles I can confim that they grip like good uns and are far better in the wet than the Michelin Energy fitted as standard. Fuel consumption is a tiny bit higher, but that could be because the car is older.......

I had two MINIs and they both made Citroens look like the paragons of reliability. They are truly shite cars, and as for the convertible, it should have chrome plated springs and a "Silver Cross" badge on the side of it to give it some shred of cred. And it NEEDS those parking sensors! If you can be arsed, here's my MINI story from the BBC Top gear website..... It starts with a list of faults: 2001 Y-reg MINI One: * A loose windscreen seal requiring the replacement of the screen * Two cracked gear knobs * Paint peeling off the steering wheel surround * Noisy gurgling from the air-con * Puckered driver's seat fabric * A leaky boot * Disintegrating foam behind the air intake vents * Paint peeling off the towing-eye covers * Occasionally the device which raised and dropped the door glass to enable opening and closing of the door would fail to work, resulting in the side window being forced against the rain guttering. I traded this car in after 37,000 miles for a brand new 03 MINI One, which would not easily get reverse gear. With the gearbox and linkage replaced, the car was still not much better. Oh, also the boot lock started to play up, and air would whistle noisily around the doors at anything over 70mph. 7,000 miles and three months later, I sold the car in disappointment. I can't believe that any of these cars are trouble-free, and woe betide any poor soul who should buy one in the future with an expired warranty. Even the basic design is flawed. Sure it's pretty, but the lack of stowage space (especially in the earlier cars sans glovebox lid) is infuriating. It is impossible to use the screenwashers with the windows even slightly open without getting a faceful of glycol-sweetened soapy water. Even the 1992 VW Golf had rudimentary channels on the windscreen edges to divert water up and over the car instead of into it, and the last car I drove which poured rainwater from the roof into the interior when the driver simply sat in it was a 1967 Citroen Ami6. At least that had the good grace to look ugly as a warning to the foolhardy. On a positive note, the BMW dealer from whom I bought the car was courteous throughout my ownership of these two cars, and was as helpful as possible, although the claim that "some gearboxes just seem to be like that" did little to encourage me to keep the second car. If I had not covered such a high mileage in such a short time, I 'd have been shouting for my money back. Just as well I'm a reasonable guy. On the other hand, BMW's customer services helpdesk were merely sympathetic rather than helpful. Last week I spoke to a driving instructor who had a new '04 MINI OneD. Her previous Cooper had been back to the dealership 92 times..... NINETY-TWO TIMES!!! with problems. Her OneD was a replacement car sold to her "at cost" as compensation for her trouble. She said that the amount of money lost in her wages due to the Courtesy Car not being fitted with Dual controls amounted to about 9 months-worth. BMW won't be interested in your car. They have too many fashion-led tossers beating a path to their door for these stupid, flawed little cars so they'll not care about not selling one to you. I traded in a Golf GTi for my first MINI and got a pittance for it because along with countless others, I was so keen to get my hands on a new MINI. What BMW have done so cleverly is to keep the servicing free for the first 50,000 miles. This keeps everything 'in-house' so non-franchised garages have no concept of just how unreliable these shiteboxes are. The other thing you'll find is that the image of the car is so strong, that even owners who have had problems either refuse to admit it or accept them as the price of stylishness, as in the case of our driving instructor. This "Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome keeps residuals sky high.......... Good luck!! Tron X

Sensible car!! And after initial depreciation, they don't drop much more. A 'V' reg berlingo 1.9D is still worth about 4K in a private sale, and older ones don't seem to be much cheaper. Obviously nobody buys one at list price anyway...

Good luck to you mate! Peugeots are just expensive Citroens, with dealer backup to match. The 206CC is a leaker too. Glad to get shot of mine...... Tron X

There's nothing wrong with the bolt, it's the one-way fukkitclip that it locates into. It's a plastic cage nut which will disintegrate without doubt.....

My low fuel light comes on with about 100miles range left in the tank, thus rendering the feature fairly useless. A software Fix by the dealer altered nothing. I think the light should officially come on with 5 litres remaining.
