  1. Hmm - since I got the Mk2 (last year) I can see the problem with sidelights. I had one stop working (offside) and got as far as accidentally removing the indicator, cursing and putting it back, then just getting my fingers on the sidelight wiring, whereupon it started working again. Haven't had to face the problem since. Like yours, my car is an Exclusive, and I don't fancy disconnecting the 4 parking sensors, 2 foglights, 2headlamp washers and the partridge in a pear tree! How do you do all that, and get them put back correctly?
  2. Doesn't it state the exact model on the logsheet?
  3. Got it! Just put your finger behind the blade and lever it out - click fit on a round bar built into the arm Citroen are losing their touch - making things easy!
  4. Last of the old shape - last of the hatchbacks.
  5. Removal is easy - prise off the two plastic trims either side of the radio (they surround the oval buttons) then it's 2 torx screws to release. May be worth trying to take the casing off and retrieve the disc, clean up the mechanism and reconnect, see if it works? Don't know how easy that would be. Not sure who would repair the older ones now. There won't be a problem with coding - the unit is hard coded to your car.
  6. It's a 2008 hatch back - the facelift version. The arm doesn't have a conventional hook design, nor is it the newer "sidelock" type which I have on the front. The blade is semi-concealed by the arm. It looks like there's some sort of clip holding it inside the arm, but I'm afraid of breaking it..
  7. Hi Finally got back on the site - was getting withdrawal symptoms! Anyone know how to change a rear blade on a Mk2? Front ones couldn't be easier - side lock system, but the back one's got me beat Just want to know for future reference - don't ned to change anything now. Haynes doesn't help Thanks
  8. Does the clock need resetting every time you restart the engine? If so you've probably got a blown fuse - the one that controls "display and navigation system" (if fitted)
  9. a cheap way round it is to drive with side lghts on. Better than forking out for the comm unit
  10. Never heard of extra charge for balancing. My local "Just Tyres" centre certainly didn't when I had an older C5 with fixed centres. Balancing involves using a special attachment which is needed for Citroen and I believe some Volvo models. Shouldn't be a problem or an excuse to charge extra..
  11. OK I've done the upgade without paying Citroen prices Bought an RD4 N2 MP3 ( looks like I got the numbering wrong) on Ebay.de (germany) - direct from Blaupunkt service centre on an auction - refurbished with 12 month guarantee for £98 delivered. Had it fitted and vin coded by Citroen dealer - £47 plus vat Works really well - list button brings up list of albums - select album and it brings up list of tracks to select, or just let it ply through the 15 or so albums on the disc. Otherwise exactly as the original - remote works, all the menu items are there. Wouldn't work with a CAN phone module, if you have such a thing. Not a problem for me Just ordered another to keep as a spare (remembering that you really can't install an aftermarket unit due to the numerous menu controls on the radio - you would lose all ability to set the clock, auto lights, directional lights, screen options etc) Only paid £65 for the second one - can't be bad
  12. The SX does have auto lights and wipers as standard, so I don't really think you have got to the bottom of this problem. Is your local garage a Citroen dealer? Have you checked the wiring under the front seats for damage? That's what caused an airbag fault in my C5. The dog got hold of them!
  13. All I can say is - Citroen locking wheel bolts are a pile of cr*p- soft metal , prone to seizing. Similar thing happened on my old C5 - broke both keys trying to get the wheel off and ended up having the puncture fixed externally ( plastic rod hammered into the hole - and it worked!) Garage got it off with brute force in the end. Scrapped all the lockers and replaced with standard bolts. I've already scrapped the locking bolts on my new C5 (2008 hatch) and replaced with Citroen standard bolts. If someone really wants to nick your wheels, they can do it with one of those "grab anything" sockets that tighten rods around the bolt.
  14. OBD2 (aka EOBD) was not obligatory on diesels until 2004, (2001 for petrol cars) so I guess it's a case of finding out what protocol your car employs and finding a suitable scanner from there. I have a cheap OBD2 which works on my old 2002 petrol but it won't turn off the engine light, even when it confirms it has. Reads the codes OK though. Engine light goes out eventually anyway
  15. Done a bit more digging on this one RD4 N1 -standard RD4 N2 -standard plus CD text RD4 N3 -standard plus CD text plus MP3 disc compatible N3 comes in at £308 inc vat plus VIN coding at the dealer Not sure it's worth it??
  16. I'm with Techbod - I don't do diesels . so I'm over the moon with it. I have a company fuel card, so only paying 40p a litre (taxable benefit) I pay for my own maintenance though so a petrol makes sense for me. I love the auto box - very clever. dropping down when you are going downhill. Just got to remember not to pull the stick forward when I want to go from 3rd to 4th! It won't let you do anything disastrous of course, just embarrassing.. Thanks
  17. Hi After months of dithering, I just bought a super bargain on ebay 2008 /08 reg C5 petrol exclusive hatchback with under 4k miles - just over 1 year old, not even due for 1st service - still has new car smell - price £5,500 Reason - category D write off 6 months ago under a "new for old" policy - 1st owner curbed it and damaged subframe. Fully repaired by second owner - MOT tested to check all is well. Ran HPI check and all clean. I doubt if Citroen will honour the remaining 2 years warranty, but at this price for an "as new" car - who cares?? Seller was pretty disappointed he only got the starting price - dangerous to set a low start price in the summer when there are no buyers in the market ( apart from lucky me!!) Book price without cat d is around £10k
  18. Yeah - the MP3 disc - compatible version turns up on ebay every now and then - from Blaupunkt in Germany. Would just need vin-coding in and should work exactly as per the original. It's still an RD4, but has some different letters that denote its MP3 credentials No other option really- apart from linking in an ipod emulating a cd changer. Replacing with an after-market unit would be pretty awful, as you would lose control of the display screen and settings ( controls are in the radio) and the remote stalk would never work. I'm looking out for an MP3 version myself, having just bought a 2008 C5 exclusive hatchback. Will let you know if they come on stream again.
  19. I was looking at a 2005 c5 a few weeks ago and when I pushed the "menu" button on the radio, it seemed to be giving me display options for the central information screen Does this mean if you replace the radio with an after-market unit, you lose control of the display? Given the recent announcements about turning off the FM transmitters in the not - too - distant future, it's going to be necessary to replace with a DAB unit. Easy enough on a Mark1 C5, not too sure about the Mark 2.
  20. If you mean the silver engine cover, it's held on with 6 turnbuckle screws. Turn them hrough 90 degrees and they pop out easily. You won't see much under there - just the coil pack really but you will get a better view of the rocker cover gasket - could be causing the trouble.
  21. multiplug both ends thanks
  22. Thanks for that. I slid the seat forwards and took a closer look - it's a lead contaning multiple wires of different coulours that plugs into a connector in the floor on one end, and connects to the seat at the other. It seems to split into 2 connectors for the seat - one is blue and brown, the other red black and a few other colours. Before the dog got hold of it, it was encased in a black flexible sleeve. Could be it's feeding belt pretensioners and the bag.
  23. Driving the dogs home the other night and the display threw up "Airbag Fault" - didn't make the connecton with the dog at the time but discovered today he's chewed through the wiring under the driver's seat. Any idea how much this is going to cost me ? Is it dangerous? Anyone want a one-eyed Daschund/Jack Russell/miniature dobie cross?
  24. e Sounds like you've blown the fuse that controls the central display and radio - same thing happened to me. It's a 15 amper in the glove box fuse area, marked as "satellite navigation" in the handbook. Could be you've checked the wrong fuse? ( may car is a 2002 sx petrol wth no sat nav). When this went, the central display kept working, but didn't illuminate and the clock/date went back to zero every time I restarted. And the radio went dead. And the central locking played up A pretty close match to your problem...
  25. Had a similar problem trying to get my C5 remote stalk working with an aftermarket radio. There are posts on this board about successful linkups on a C3 Is the C5 more complex/awkward in this respect than the C3? Is it possible to get the thing working? Main dealer says no. Lead suppliers (connects2/autoleads) say yes I've given up, but it still niggles...
