Water In Footwell, Sunroof Guilty?
myglaren replied to rinkydinkydo's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Be wary. My brother had a similar problem but only discovered it as he was setting off for a wedding in his best togs. As he drove out of his driveway and the car tilted backwards he and his wife were treated to a deluge that soaked them through and involved a complete change of clothing for both of them. Disaster always strikes at the worst possible moment -
I ran mine on Biodiesel* for about six months (recovered chipfat) and it was fine. Same performance and mileage as dinodiesel but >10p per Litre less (tracks standard diesel prices) production halted just before Christmas as the manager left but I should be going back to it soon. *my spellchecker wants me to change this to Budweiser. Not such a good idea, under the circumstances:)

It should run down a drain inside the door or windscreen pillars and exit underneath the car. You may need to probe it out with piano wire as it could have become quite securly lodged and there is a long way for it to go. Try and get a little plastic cap for the piano wire as you could well penetrate the tubing with it and make matters much worse. -
For a Xantia at an independent, no. For a C5, haven't a clue I'm afraid, only had mine since Easter and have had niggles but no real concerns up to now.

Tyre pressures are posted on the pillar of the drivers door. Mine has no tyre pressure sensors (2,0 HDi SX)

I was told years ago that Ford bought their diesel engines from Peugeot as they were better than the ones Ford had developed and cheaper than them building their own. Probably an urban legend but it would not surprise me to learn it was so. Volvo have been bunging Peugeot V6s in their cars for long enough.

You need to have an image hosting service. I use Photobucket and Imageshack. Both are free and there are other free image hosting sites too. First you need to have the image on your hard drive. Next, upload it to your image hosting account. Then copy the address there. Paste the address here it must be enclosed in square brackets like so. both sites will do this for you if you pick the correct code. A bit of trial and error usually puts you on the right track. This site has a button, under the 'Fonts' drop-down menu, second from the left in that group, that will wrap the address in tags%20for%20you. http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/5959/stuff030cw9.th.jpg' alt='stuff030cw9.th.jpg'> Just an example, from the Imageshack host. This is a nice option as it plants a thumbnail instead of a full image, which is good news for the members on dial-up. Click the image for a full size one. Below the image you can see the various address codings (at least I can, possibly because I own the image) This is just old crap to demonstrate the method but the story there is that I pulled into that car park after work one day and thought that the SAAB looked familiar - it is my youngest daughter's! The Mini beside it belongs to my eldest daughter. http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/1693/1970citroensm12m1xx.th.jpg A proper Citroën, one I can't afford! I tried to add a photo of the wonderful Myléne Farmer, one of the best Frenchies around, but it wouldn't work. Perhaps there is a limit on the number of images that can be inserted in any one post. http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/6412/220pxmylenefarmerpv8.jpg Ah, there it is!

Thanks - got one (weeks ago now) it is still floating around waiting for someone to do something with it. Good job it isn't urgent (the MOT tester slapped some Gun-Gum on it)

C5s and late model Xantias shouldn't sink, not overnight anyway. Mine never has and none of the others I have seen parked overnight do. Mine whirrs a bit when it is unlocked in a morning after standing overnight and sometimes lifts a few millimetres but nothing overt. My guess would be a defect in the anti-sink mechanism.

Why is this always at the top of the list and why doesn't the 'unread posts' flag go out after it is read? Even the 'mark this forum read' command doesn't work on it. ETA: This post appears to have cured it. -
You can't drive faster than 24kph in the first raised position and 6kph in the second (highest) position. If the car is moving at greater speeds than these it will ignore requests to adjust the ride hide. If the ride height is increased then one of those speeds reached, the car will override the setting and return it to normal. As regards the other issues, I have never encountered them so have nothing to offer there, sorry.

While I have nothing concrete to offer on this matter I am surprised that the quoted price is so high. I have in the past replaced many an hydraulic pipe on several Citroens and despite being scared witless by people supposedly knowledgeable about vehicle repairs - and some even refusing to consider working on a Citroen - I found it very easy and quick to replace pipes and associated bits and pieces and while the pipes were more expensive than standard brake pipes the differential wasn't that dramatic. I will admit to not having gone raking around much on the C5 yet.

Should be - I used to load the boot of my GS up with paving stones and Calor gas cylinders once a month to 'exercise' the rear brakes. To allow them to move freely against the front of the piston. Most brakes used to have anti-squeal shims fitted but they seem to have been dispensed with of late. Actually it is more important to apply Coppaslip between the caliper and the chassis mounting point to preclude corrosion caused by the EMF between the steel chassis and the alloy caliper. A very thin plastic shim should do the same thing.

Mine started doing this shortly after I got it and still does occasionaly. I find that if I pull/push it closed it will then open. A good squirt of WD40 or similar on the catch seems to help. The mechanic who does my servicing noticed it last time I was there and said that the cable in the door was probably slightly stretched.

As I have said in another thread, my fuel economy is abyssmal and deteriorating - <30mpg! I dosed it with some injector cleaner a couple of weeks ago and it has recovered somewhat but is still rubbish compared to my Xantia 1.9TurboDiesel.

I was in a local ATS yesterday, getting the tracking and balancing done after being forced off the road by another vehicle. There was a Mondeo in there and they had to get the owner to take it to a Ford dealer as they couldn't cope with the sensors. I did ask if they were familiar with C5's, to preclude them scraping the bottom on the ground when they let it down and the manager told me thay they had been contracted to change the wheels and wheelnuts (steel wheels) on >8,000 C5's shortly after their debut, due to a fault with the wheels and nuts. I took this as a 'Yes, they are familiar!'

I'll second that. Bought a back box (£52) and a repair section (£16). Ten minute job to fit it.

The suspension is the primary reason I have a C5. In the past I have run a GS, BX, and Xantia. The best thing about them is the suspension. Agreed, it needs more maintenance than conventional springs but the ride is worth it. I'm a bit baffled regarding the "Four suspension lights" I've never seen any. When do they come on?
-
May just need a bit of realignment.
-
I bet your washer bottle is full of crap.. I imagine mine is too.
-
Try pushing it closed hard from outside - or pulling it closed from inside. Spray some WD40-alike on the lock and keeper. My drivers door does this intermittently.
-
I'm usually pretty hard on tyres but that sounds terrible. I'd suspect the tracking not being adjusted correctly or a fault in the suspension geometry but the symmetry kind of counterindicates that. My tyres are too new to assess. Bought the car in March and while the tyres were OK I have no idea of how long they have been on or the miles they might have done. Put a new set on in August in preparation for the winter and upcoming MOT. I have no idea what the make could be though, just dropped it off and had the tyres changed, paid and left. The wheels aren't balanced though as they hadn't the equipment to balance the wheels-without-holes. No vibration problems even at frowned upon speeds.

Bought some silicon cabin cleaner and a little squirt did the trick right away :)
