Loud Humming Noise From Front Drivers Side Wheel?
Johndouglas replied to RichCliff's topic in C5 - Technical
Quite right - MOT testers don't remove anything in the course of a test however, with the car on a hoist the condition of the discs can be seen. At the same time they spin the wheels to feel and listen to the bearings. Any blueing of the brake disc would indicate over heating because of dragging pads and seized callipers. I would have thought that if you can smell burning because of dragging pads, the hubs would be very hot. It would also melt the bearing grease leading to abnormal wear. -
What's done is done. I would live with it for a few days and see if it settles down. If it doesn't, go to Citroen then.

My daughter's Xsara suffered from this problem with the stop sign lighting and the temperature gauge going into the high area. A change of temperature sensor corrected it. However, is your engine actually overheating or is it just the dashboard saying it is? Have you traced the leakage of coolant? In normal running the coolant level shouldn't change over a long time.

A Citroen main dealer will help you - at a price. You'll probably need a bank loan... :P

Go under the bonnet on the right hand side. Look behind the air filter and there's a cover marked with + & -. Remove the cover and connect to the terminals. Don't mix up the pos. with the neg otherwise you'll do great damage.

Apparently that doesn't work on the OP's vehicle. I suggested that in the 2nd post.

Loud Humming Noise From Front Drivers Side Wheel?

My guess would be that the calliper needs looking at. Are the pads dragging on the disc? Does the calliper slide easily? Does the handbrake lever on the caliper move as it should? -

Paul is away at the moment. No doubt he will answer when he's back. -
Hello & welcome to the forum. Sorry you weren't impressed with your Xantias. I had a 2.1 Estate a lot of years ago. Wish they were still on the market.

2002 C5 Near Side Drive Shaft Seal Replacement
Johndouglas replied to muttontop's topic in C5 - Technical
Many thanks for telling us about your problem and solution. It should be useful to other readers. So that your posting doesn't disappear, I've moved it to the Technical section. So that it may help others, how about writing a brief description on the whole job? -
The BSI reset is the same method that Citroen recommend for changing the battery. Here's the procedure:- Drop the suspension to low (to prevent the pump running when you refit the battery). Open the driver's window and remove the keys, close any doors. Wait a few minutes for the BSI to close down. Unclip the battery leads. Short them together through a resistance - a festoon bulb is ideal - for a minute or so. Short the battery leads together for a minute. Wait while you have a cup of tea. Replace the battery and clip the leads on. Do not open the door or otherwise disturb the car. Wait another few minutes. Reach in through the window and put the sidelights on. Wait a few minutes. Reach in and turn the ignition on but do not start the engine. Wait some more minutes. Start the engine and let it idle. Open the door, get in and operate the suspension buttons. If all is well then you will need to retune the radio, reset the time and date, reset autolights and maybe reset window controls.

Make sure the vehicles are not in contact with each other. Don't allow the clamps to touch each other. Put the positive cable to the positive terminal of the flat battery first. Then attach the other end of the positive cable to the good battery. Attach the negative cable to the negative terminal of the good battery. Then attach the other end of the negative cable to the engine block. Not to the negative terminal of the dead battery. Once the engine is started, let it run for a few minutes then carefully remove the cables in reverse order, again not allowing the clamps to touch. Make sure you connect to the ENGINE BLOCK – not to thin metal - it will quickly overheat

One Owner Saxo Vtr Needs A Loving New Home
Johndouglas replied to pkoc's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
I too have a 1998 Saxo which I've had from almost new. I bought it from a main dealer as a demonstrator. Apart from going for an MOT each year, it has never been to a garage. Replacement parts and servicing get's done by myself. Sadly, it doesn't look likely to become a sought after classic - just another old car. Now our other 1998 vehicle - a Peugeot 306 for some reason is another matter. Each time it goes for MOT the examiner reminds me that he's a ready buyer. Some cars are destined to become sought after classics - others aren't. But all the best with your sale. -
Rear Suspension 2Ltr Hdi Estate
Johndouglas replied to dunc.alba's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
This information may help. It comes from the lips of Moderator Steve (Coastline) Its not the seals as such that leak it the aluminium lip around the seal that fails and the fluid gets past it. Jack and prop up the rear of the car. Remove wheel ( Just to let a bit more light in) Depressurise the hydraulic suspension a diagnostic tool is required for this. If you don't have a Diagnostic tool then there is a bleed nipple next to the ride height adjuster. Put a pipe over the nipple and crack the nipple open till the fluid starts to come out. remember its under pressure so just a little bit or you'll end up covered in fluid. Wait until all fluid is out. So starting from the rear of the shocker (sphere end) Remove sphere (sphere removal tool or oil filter strap required) Undo the suspension pipe its the one that goes to the rear shocker !3mm Now remove the 2 black plastic pipes that go into the rubber gaiter they just pull out. Now remove the 2 torx bolts ( t20 or 25) that hold the shocker onto the axle pay attention to which way the metal collar comes out as it needs to go back the same way Now go to the end of the rubber gaiter and you'll see a r clip this is supposed to just pulls out can sometimes be a bit of a pig so get plenty wd into it. Once the clip is out the piece of metal that it secures need to be removed. Again this is sometimes a right pain but twisting with mole grips and tapping with a hammer will bring it out. Tap the shocker lightly with a hammer and it should break away if not then tap it harder. Fitting is the reversal of the above. To repressurize the suspension system. Make sure the bleed nipple is tightened up take car of stand and let it sit on the ground you probably wont be able to get the jack out at this stage fill reservoir with lds fluid and start the engine and let it idle and you'll hear the pump working and the car will lift itself up. give the suspension a good work out with the height adjuster button. check fluid. Tools required Axle stands Jack pliers/mole grips Sphere removal tool or device T20 or t25 male torx bit Diagnostic tool or tubing and a 10mm socket or spanner 2 litres of lds fluid -
I've never done it so I can't be of any help, however I do know that before the wheel can be taken off the airbag needs to be disabled and removed. Make sure the wheel lock isn't on and then disconnect the battery and wait for five minutes before doing anything else.

HDI is Citroen/Peugeot's abbreviation for a High-pressure Direct Injection engine. AFAIK vtr is just a label which they give for an equipment level similar to past years LX & SX.

Hello & welcome. Your car sounds as though it's limping. First thing to do is get the fault codes read.

None of the C5s are permitted to tow 2000Kgs. The towing limit on models vary between 1400 and 1700Kgs - auto boxes are less. Several members on the forum use their C5s for towing and generally, all of them are well satisfied with the performance.

Windows - Operated By Remote - Not! (X7)
Johndouglas replied to Sloppysod's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
There's a limit to the number of functions that the remote can be asked to do. Citroen obviously think that switching the lighting on and off remotely is of more benefit to most drivers. -

Help Required For Removing Software Dpf File From My Ecu
Johndouglas replied to TheGoose's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Am I reading this correctly? You've removed the particle filter but you haven't changed the ECU programme? If so that will give you all sorts of fault codes........................ Since this topic was started (2012) it has now become an offence to drive on the highway in a car which doesn't have the emission system installed as when it left the factory.
