C3 Radio Replacement = Central Locking Fault
kfk replied to nannynick's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
what you need to ask for is an interface lead that allows you to connect an accessorie radio to your C3. The reason it does this......some do some dont, seems to dependon the radio connected to it....but yours obviously is. whilst you have removed the citroen radio you have to appreciate that you have efectively disconnected a computer from your vehicle. The main computer in your car when turned on searches and checks for computers connected to it.....each computer on your car has 2 data wires that allow it to talk with the main and other computers on the vehicle. Because the main computor on your car doesnt know any different it looks for a radio when turning on, and looks again when turning off. Because its sending messages to something that isnt there it will on occasions become confused.........especially if the 2 data wires are now plugged into and making contact with a different unit. It must be remembered thet the data wires shouldnt have 12volts put down them, they shouldnt be shorted together and shouldnt be put to earth. -

Its funny how customers can have dreams about cars and dealers have nightmares......each to their own ;) I'm assuming its a late model facelift XM.......turn ignition till all dash lights come on, press button on remote control. Good luck

Disillusioned.............sometimes i let down my guard and you see the real me Rumour has it though, if you slit my wrists you will see Citroen running through my veins like a stick of rock!......still i suppose thats what you get after 20 years of drinking LHM @ tea break

Whilst i have never towed with one i'm sure that you would find it satisfactory.......however, if you want to try asking the question HERE I'm sure you will find all the questions and answers you wish to have answered. Its a forum specific to the Picasso and has lots of knowledgable people.....see you there i hope.

Probably worth getting a replacement fuel pump cut off solenoid so you only have to get your hands dirty once.....pretty sure you can get them from other places than citroen. It isnt unnusual for a bit of crap to get stuck between the plunger and solenoid causing it to stick either open or closed.....the alternative is the spring inside the plunger may have failed....not heard of it before but theres always a first time. according to CITISPARES price solenoid is about £40.00

Easiest thing to do is go to your citoen dealer and buy some new seals. The new ones come complete with the double sided tape ready to apply. The important bit is making the new tape stick to body work, so make sure you clean any polish of (yup even vans get polished ). As for seats, you might find a berlingo multispace in the breakers yard thats worth having the seats out of.

Have had problems in the past with C5 lacking power caused by rear ligh bulb filment touching on brake light filament. The action of side lights on causes the the brakes to get a voltage and send a message to the computers in the car......this will upset the abs /esp / injection sytame and suspension.....if auto can also cause it to have selection faults. So why might this be related? Go check your trailer wiring.....have you got a bad connection ....maybe you have a bad earth and its tryig to do it through the brake ight circuit? Do you have somewhere you might be able to try it without the trailer board connected?

No they dont....they only pay for faults that are fixed where you can justify the time spent......we cant justify 6 hours we can just about justify 2.

I love it when people say that. Sometimes the vehicle has a problem that hasnt been encountered before, either by the dealer or the manufacturer. In those instances someone somewhere has to sit down and learn what each wire does, where it goes, what computer is concerned and how many computers control it. And yes your dead right, when we get to that stage we havent got a clue.....its a learning curve. My training by Citroen for C4 consisted of four days.... 75% of which was in the class room.....the remainder looking at technology on the vehicles. Today we have spent 6 hours trying to work out why a customers automatic headlights wouldnt work correctly......the technician concerned was clueless. By using his knowledge, determination and technical information he eventually resolved the problem. It wont bother the customer, but he lost his bonus on that job, neither will it bother the customer that we will be unable to claim the repair time for the job. Its also unlikely to bother the customer that his car was fixed today and somebody else is having to wait until monday to get theirs repaired. What will come out of it its the fact that it was ok untill it went in for a recall. then it took them 6 hours to fix it.....they were clueless. edit: Sorry, needed to have a rant......dont take it personally

Glow plug light wont be seen untill temperatures below freezing are experienced. Accessorie socket and boot height control......have you checked the fuses? Temperature gauge if were talking about outside temperature its the sensor in the mirror. If its the engine temperature wouldnt suprise me if its the sensor on the engine.....there not the most reliable component.

If it was working before you had the fan fitted why not ask your mechanic to take a quick look and see if he disconnected something.

Sounds like the air distribution flap has become diconnected from its cable..

It was 6.47 actually :P .......getting ready for the joys of dealing with my Citroen owners :(

Its dark out there :(

Take a look at the injector connections.....particularly those that sit under the screen wash jets......make sure there not corroded

Looks like its gonna be a long day

I would hazzard a guess it assists with aerodynamics which in turn will assist fuel economy and perormance. But more than likely it has nothing to do with that and is more likely to assist the vehicle in achieving noise level tests. Most vehicles have to do a drive past at a certain speed and have a noise meter reading taken. The shield would reduce transmission and engine noise under these circumstances. So do you need it......probably not, but make sure you have found a way to stop the inner wheel arches flapping around.

Just passing through........looks like reasonble morning so i'm gonna go for a walk, its not as strenuous as the gym......think i've been lined up for some visiting this after noon

Are you sure its the front brakes squealing and not the rear? It isnt uncommon for the rear brakes to be the cause of the problem. If you remove your rear pads take a look and see how they have worn. On many C5's when checked thay have worn tapered from top to bottom. The cause of this is a build up of corrosion between the rear brake caliper and the rear suspension arm. Obviously to cure this the caliper has to be removed and the corrosion cleaned up. Sounds easy.....but unfortunately, Citroen in there wisdom decided that the bolts securing the calipers to the arm should have loctite applied along there length, this makes a simple job into one you wish you hadnt started! Seriously though, first check should be your rear brakes....if you have a friendly mot test station ask if they will put your car on the brake rollers so you can hear which end is squealing.

run your hand down the cover over the steering column till it gets to the bottom of the cover......the release lever is accessible but just under the edge

Personally i wouldnt expect to get much engine braking at 2000rpm in 4th or 5th.....you need to change down the box.....just out of interest what speed are you doing in 4th at 2000 rpm?
