I have recently imported a towbar and dedicated wiring kit from the UK for my C5.

It has been installed by one of Melbourne's supposedly reputable mechanics. The reversing sensors do not disable when a trailer/caravan is connected as I assumed they would. I complained and was poorly treated but took it back to be fixed. Unsatisfactorily as it turns out.

I have my own diagbox and am a trained electronics tech so if someone could step me through the procedure for enabling the electronics I purchased it would be much appreciated.

AND NO!

I will not be returning to said mechanics as they have appear to have no idea how to service a modern vehicle.

I only hope that the suspension side of things has been done more satisfactorily. Any tips here, too, would be well regarded.

On some of the C5 models you can temporarily disable the factory fitted sensors by pulling the fuse however this may also disable things like your AC

depending on the year would depend on the fuse and its shared counterpart

On my C5 the parking sensors can be switched off on the dashboard.   Which is what I do.   I fitted my tow bar in 2005 without using the dedicated wiring kit.   Also it's a flanged tow ball so its presence is picked up by the sensors continuously.

My towbar is also has a flanged towball but I found that pivoting the 13 pin electrics socket down a bit was enough to stop the reversing sensors seeing it. Before doing this I checked that the reversing sensors were correctly positioned. I did not use a dedicated wiring kit. 2007 C5 2.2 hdi VTX estate.

Thanks John, maybe that is the easier softer option. Just thought that it was able to be down automatically via the ECU.

Yes I think it can be but it needs to be done through the Lexia programme.

That's what I thought. I have Lexia (Diagbox) and associated paraphernalia. Just wondering whether some one could take me through it, step by step, or is it easy enough to try?

My reversing sensors have started giving false alarms again for the central sensors. Removing the plastic towball cover as a test has stopped this again. So I may try one that just covers the ball as opposed to the existing one which covers the towball flange and bolts and appears to be marginally in line with the sensor bumper angles.
