Guest Visa10E Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hi there after suffering a series of electrical gremlins (Ghost tyre pressure warnings, fill up washer fluid warnings when its full, climate control with a mind of its own, stereo on the blink now and again) with my 02 C5 2.2 HDi Ive decided after trawling this forum to disconnect the battery, Ive had a quick look at the fittings and being an utter cack hand at anything remotely mechanical have no idea how to remove them, without breaking something at least - any tips? Just make sure you read the posts on here on how to do a proper reset Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Ive looked around for that what does it involve? I thought it was just resetting the clock etc Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Just done it, and its achieved nothing other than an engine immobiliser fault, which thankfully went away when I closed the bonnet. Words cannot describe how much I want rid of this car! Quote
Randombloke Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hi there after suffering a series of electrical gremlins (Ghost tyre pressure warnings, fill up washer fluid warnings when its full, climate control with a mind of its own, stereo on the blink now and again) with my 02 C5 2.2 HDi What sort of condition is the battery in? Disconnecting and reconnecting it if the voltage is low won't long term cure anything, it might just clear it in the short term. I'd get one of these and monitor the situation: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31rs8KfsF7L._SL500_AA280_.jpg You may find the voltage is sometimes low, or that the pump pulls it down..... You may also find, as I found with my BX, that the battery was OK but the leads from the battery to the car needed changing, and having done so charging and starting got so much better. Quote

Dont be dishertened by a couple of faults as the c5 is really a good car. list your faults on here and theyl get sorted out for you Quote
Guest Visa10E Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I just want rid of the thing now if I can get 2 grand for it I'll be happy, Ive had more problems with this car in 10 months of ownership than the rest of my cars put together over 10 years! Enough is enough! Quote

Guest Visa10E Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 No its a 2.2 I know you're after 2.0 litre ones. If I cant sell it (I tried and failed to do so just before Christmas) then my only other options are to try and shove it through auction or simply run it into the ground until it breaks and throw it away, and by that I mean sack off the cambelt change as thats just £500 thrown down the drain on this car Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hey Randombloke - where did you get that voltmeter from? The only place I've seen them is in America and they want silly money for carriage. Quote

Johndouglas Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 http://www.amazon.com/Vector-VEC008-Digita...t/dp/B0002ISEQW Yes! I know all about this offer, but try and buy one and the "checkout" will then inform you that they don't ship from the US to UK. Quote
techbod Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 how about this one then? simple to fit a cigar lighter plug http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-Digital-Voltmete...A1%7C240%3A1318 Ive ordered one, I was thinking of fitting the old type gauge but like the digital ones :( Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-Digital-Voltmete...A1%7C240%3A1318 But in addition to a cigar lighter plug, it also needs an independent supply to power it. Quote
kfk Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 how about http://www.lbcarco.com/digital-lcd-car-voltmeter.htm Or slightly different http://www.sunshinesolar.co.uk/khxc/gbu0-p...ow/CIGVOLT.html Quote

I bought it from Innovations. They don't do them any more. Try: Digital Voltmeter With Cigar Lighter Connector Quote

Try: Digital Voltmeter With Cigar Lighter Connector Thanks Randombloke and KFK for the link. I had one of these sent just before Christmas and it didn't work, so sent it back. Presently awaiting their response. Quote

techbod Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 problem with the newer cars is they have a MEMS system or CAM keep alive memory ( the K is debatable ) it should be "C" to clear all the memory you have to disconnect the earth wire to the battery then switch all ancillary devices on to deplete any stored memory ( do not disconnect the live lead from the battery ) insert the ignition key then switch on but don't crank the engine now connect the negative to the battery and take it for a drive to set the ECU up ( called a drive cycle ), disconnecting the live from the battery first will turn the air bag light on Quote

DaveHerns Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Don't agree You are cutting off the battery supply whichever lead you remove first Dave Quote
