  1. When you state "Basic air con" what version are we talking about? There were two types of air con fitted to Xantia's at the factory, the most common had an "Auto" setting on the fan slider control (adjusts the fan speed according to temperature variation etc) and the basic version which was simply a manual fan speed control. Are you not getting any air out of the vents even when the fan is running at full speed? If so then that will more than likely be due to a blocked pollen filter. The fault of the fan only working on full speed will be down to faulty transistors on the fan motor speed control module, which if you're handy with a soldering iron can be bought cheaply in places such as Maplins, alternatively you can buy the module as a seperate item from dealers or the complete fan assembly for around £130ish.
  2. The fault is normally due to a break in the printed circuit board paticularly at the point where the infra red eye attaches to the board. This is due to the key being dropped etc. If you're handy with a soldering iron then you may be able to remake the joint with success.
  3. No they won't fit as they are a different shape.
  4. Stiff/rigid suspension is normally due to the spheres needing replacement, it will be an MOT fail. There are a couple of different types of ABS ECU's, are you sure its not due to a faulty wheel sensor? The N/S/F is the usual one to go.
  5. I'm pretty certain that the factory fitted kit doesn't give a visual indication. They come with a slightly different moulding to the rear bumper with the sensors recesssed in on the corners and a disabling switch behind the handbrake. Therefore an aftermarket version will be different, unless you want to pay out for another bumper :) .
  6. Looking at the date of your car I take it that it doesn't have a keypad immobiliser, because the pumps on cars with immobilisers are different. If yours doesn't have the immobiliser why not take a feed direct from the battery to the solonoid to see if the car will start. If it does start you'll need to unclip the lead to stop it but at least you'll know you're on the right track to finding the fault.
  7. The fans are two speed and as such the slow speed should be operating some time before the stop light illuminates. Have you tried spinning the right fan? It might be that the motor has siezed.
  8. OK, in that case take a look at the fuel cut off solonoid on the fuel pump. Its normally a round cylinder with one wire attached, it should have a 12v supply when the ignition is turned on. Also try pumping the fuel primer bulb under the bonnet, it should become hard after just a few pumps, if not then you may have a fuel supply leak.
  9. Have you trried shorting the connection on the starter motor? Have you checked to see that the small push-on connector on the starter motor hasn't fallen off?
  10. Front sphere's can normally be undone either by hand or a oil filter strap wrench, provided they were screwed on correctly i.e. By hand. Firstly however you need to depressurise the system by starting the engine, set the suspension height to its lowest setting and allow time for the car to settle. Turn the engine off, then undo the 12mm bolt on the regulator (its the housing on the engine with a sphere attatched to it, the 12mm bolt is the only one there) by NO MORE THAN 3/4 turn (much more and you stand a chance of losing a small ball bearing) which will depressurise the system. You can then unscrew the sphere's. A good tip here is to put a carrier bag over the sphere/strut to catch spillage. To screw on the new ones, seat the sealing washer on the strut then screw on the new sphere's tightening by hand only. Tighten up the 12mm bolt then start the engine and move height lever back to normal, job done. Simple when you know how  Its also quite a good idea to 'exercise' the suspension (AKA Citerobics) by moving the height lever to the highest/lowest setting with the engine running, allowing time for it to settle at each height to purge any air trapped in the system.
  11. This problem is becoming quite common on Xantia's now. Causes can be faulty fan motors to wiring faults both earth points and positive supply. There are three relays positioned between the fans which control them, look carefully for corrosion on the contacts, particularly the bottom one. A wiring diagram on the following link is for the Peugeot 306 but Xantia fans are wired the same way http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/wshtm...fan2/fanop1.htm
  12. In the joint is a rubber sealing ring which presumably wasn't seated correctly when the sphere was screwed on, the common mistake made is to put the seal on the sphere rather than the mount. New sealing rings can be bought from dealers but bearing in mind the stiff suspension issue it might be best to buy a new pair of front sphere's for £20 each (they come with new seals) and solve both issues in one go. A good place to buy new sphere's from is http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
  13. Its a large black plastic pipe that runs from the top of the engine to the back of it just to the passenger side of centre. With the engine running, have feel of the plastic pipes and see if touching one of them causes a change of engine note.
  14. Check to see that the air intake ducting hasn't become loose, its a common problem on the new engines.
  15. Where exactly is the leak coming from? Over filling of the LHM fluid will have no ill effect on hydraulic's/ride apart from making a mess when the excess splills out from the tank when the suspension is at its lowest setting.
  16. Performance wise, the 1.6HDi is pretty good really, with minimal turbo lag its picks up very well, a significant improvement over earlier diesel engines. Best of all I feel quite hard done by if I don't get at least 50+MPG :P As for noise, again generally good although the plastic inlet manifold on mine rattles quite a lot making it sound rather 'Old diesel' like when idling. Apparently this is a common problem due to the securing clips not being up to much. This can be solved by using a 'Self tapper' screw or cable ties. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I can't help with the present deals, take a look on http://www.citroen.co.uk/ when its working again. As a side point, my latest one has a couple of water leaks, one via the N/S/R push out window (poor seal) and the drivers door due to a mis-shaped outer door seal. These are due to be sorted out when it goes in on Wednesday. My latest one does feel much better screwed together, either this one is better built or my last one was a 'Friday afternoon car'
  17. Its located at the rear of the engine on the top of the bellhousing below the inlet pipe from the air filter.
  18. I'm pretty sure that later/facelift Xantia's can't have the keyfob reprogrammed without a dealer's 'facilities'.
  19. The noise will be coming from the small fan located behind the alarm LED. Its purpose is to draw air in across the aircon interior temperature sensor. They become quite dirty with dust so quite often a clean up combined with a lubrication from a light oil solves the problem.
  20. Its more than likely the ultrasonic sensors behind the door mirrors. Test this theory by turning them off when you set the alarm (button on the dash-see handbook) and see whether it solves the issue. New sensors cost about £27 from a dealer.

On one of mine a very long time now ;)

Yes, enter the code as normal and start the engine, then whilst it's running unplug the keypad, job done.
  23. It sounds as if the rear suspension arm bearings might be shot. When looking at the car from the rear do the wheel's look vertical or more like / \ ? If they do look splayed out and the rear suspension is stiff when changing height and squeaks when being driven, then the bearings are shot. Alternatively it could be that the recon sphere's have burst their diaphram due to the heavy loads being placed in the car, as there are small points on the inner side of the sphere's which puncture the diaphram when the sphere's lose gas or a very heavy load is put in the car. If you got them from Westroen they offer a 3 year guarantee. Have you tried exercising the suspension by moving the height lever to each position when the car is stationary with the engine running? Doing this at regular intervals can help free up stiff linkages.
  24. I considered getting the rear windows done for the benefit of my daughter until I enquired with my insurance company who would have loaded the premium by quite some amount (I can't off-hand recall by how much).
  25. If it helps I have a new model Lingo, the trip computer displays average/current consumption, outside temperature, miles since reset and range left on fuel. The windows don't work after turning off the ignition. No in line facility on the radio/CD player, its the same as the one fitted to your's.
