Xantia 1997 Vsx Dt 1902cc Estate
DickieG replied to car's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
Thanks for the feedback, its also good to hear you have solved the problem  -
Glowplugs on HDi's are only activated when the temperature is below at least 0 degrees. A common probelm with HDi's is failure of the fuel pump within the fuel tank itself. Should the fault occur again try whacking the underside of the tank. Not too sure about the headlight problem although it may be early signs of another Xantia common problem of a failing ignition switch. Do you also suffer problems with the heater fan?

What version is the radio as there are different procedures depending on the model.

Special Tools For Removing Glowplugs For Xantia
DickieG replied to alan james's topic in Technical Section
The tool you are looking for is called an 'offset' ring spanner. This will allow you acces to the glowplug situated behind the pump. Without one its very very difficult to replace all four plugs, with, relatively simple. You may also find it useful to place a magnet close to the glowplug when you undo the nut which secures the link wire. -
Another possibility could be low brake fluid.
-
Its more than likely due to the front sphere's requiring replacement. The reason the front of the car rises so quickly compared to the back is that the front sphere's have lost their gas so the hydraulic fluid immediatly pressurises a 'solid' sphere rather than compressing the gas. Hence the quick rising and bouncy ride.

On Xantia's the heater doesn't have a valvem its an air blrnder system. The fault is probably due to either an blocked matrix, slipped adjustment cable, or if it has air conditioning, a problem with the air temp sensor behind the alarm LED. If its the latter can you hear a small fan working behind the LED with the ignition on but no engine running? Also have you tried moving the heat adjuster to full hot/cold? This will override the temp sensor to help establish the cause of the fault.

Getb yourself logged onto http://www.citroen-pr.net which is the Citroen parts website. Enter the chassis number then look at the parts diagram :)

Xantia 1997 Vsx Dt 1902cc Estate
DickieG replied to car's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
Something that Xantia's are prone to is driveshafts being out of balance which causes a vibration when under power although its normally felt at lower speeds when accelerating. I believe that its due to a problem with the inner joint being 'out of true'. I'd try putting the front of the car on axle stands then use an assistant to 'drive' the car in gear whilst observing the driveshafts, particularly the inner joints. Look for any wayward movement. -

Is the vibration worse under power? If so it could be due to a driveshaft. -
I've just seen a new Picasso on the road for the first time, it looked OK but much larger than the old Picasso.

It may well be worthwhile using Hydraflush as the old LHM is yellow which isn't the best news, get it from GSF for £15ish. It sounds as if the sphere's have gone flat from what you're describing, GSF or try http://www.aepdirect.com/ who do them for £20 each. Is there any difference to the firmness depending on what side of the car you push down on when stationary? The fans/loud noise may well be due to a wiring fault, you'll need to take a closer look when the noise is happening in order to offer you more advice really.
-
LHM should be replaced every 5 years, if it is old then instead of being luminous green it will have a yellow or if very bad, black appearance (dip a white paper hankerchief into the reservior to check the colour). If LHM replacement is overdue then it damages the hydraulic system and CAN cause hydraulics to become stiff but I'd personally look towards sphere's/ride height problems. Have you checked the ride height when the ride is herd as it may be that a height adjuster or its plastic connecting clip has become detached causing the car to run on the bump stops. Alternatively you may have duff sphere's, where did you get then from/what is their date of manufacture? The loud roar you can hear when the red stop light illuminates may well be due to the cooling fans running on full speed. At this time of year it begs the question why? Is the coolant low/engine running hot/aircon/Bitron relay problems?
-
Likewise I've seen these grey sphere's being used on french Xantia forums but have yet to find any info in English <_< .

Very nice, you can always trust a dog, but humans...........................?????????? My old boy (Leo, an Airedale) will be 15 in March, undoubtably my best friend ever :D . If only the wife could understand me like he does :D .
-
When do you feel the vibration, at speed or when accelerating from slow speeds on say second gear? If its at slow speed in a low gear such as second then it could well be a driveshaft, but do bear in mind that if you have the XUD TD engine in your car that Citroens are prone to it. I've felt it in several Xantia's and ZX's.

Click on the following link which gives the details (saves me trying to remember :o ) http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/view...6631&highlight= On that forum you will find quite a lot of info in Xantia ABS already written. The most common sensor to fail is the N/S/F. If using an ohm meter you should get a reading of around 1080 ohms on a good sensor, noting at all on a faulty one as its normally the connecting wire that fails. The front sensor wires can be traced back from the sensor to the connecting socket quite easily, the rear ones are ..........................a.................little more difficult as the wire disappears into the bowls of the subframe :o

Start Code And Dash Light Help, Please
DickieG replied to Tanya's topic in Questions about the Citroen Xantia
There procedure for changing the code depends on what version of the keypad you have. What year is your car? If you wish you can disable the keypad by entering the code as normal, starting the car then unplugging the connecting wire on the back of the keypad. Underneath the steering cowling you will find a small wheel/dimmer switch which adjusts the dash lights. -
Oi, don't have a go at the C15, I had two of them and would still have one if it had seats in the back (for the missus  as the dog sits in the front :P) By the way the missus doesn't look like the picture :D
-
The glowplug light won't illuminate unless the outside temperature is below freezing. ABS would have been an optional extra. Can't help with a mechanic in Croydon, ain't that saaarrrfff London the other side of the 'Rio Grande'?
-
Iannez, thanks for taking the time to find that out for me, I'll have another go at getting it activated. Does anyone have a suggestion for a 'friendly' dealer/service centre to the west side of London able to activate cruise control?
-
70 psi on my bike would feel like a flat tyre :o it runs on 125psi :D
-
Iannez, As you are 'in the know', do you know if cruise control can be added to a 1.6 HDi Berlingo? The reason I ask is that I had it added to my old 2.0 HDi version without problems, but the dealer who added it to that car now refuses to do such activations after directions from Citroen UK. I've tried getting it added at a Citroen approved service centre but whilst the BSI recognises cruise has been added it refuses to work, any advice will be appreciated.
-
Yes that is ABS, invariably due to a faulty sensor with the N/S/F being the most common one to fail. Just don't ask me why.

Do you need a wiper with a spoiler on a Lingo? Both of the Lingos I bought new came without them, presumably due to the shape/windflow over the screen. To get a 'LHD wiper' to fit (is there really such a thing ;) ) you also need to turn the wiper over i.e. spoiler at the bottom then fit the clip :P .
