Hi All I haven't been posting here much over recent months - just a couple of replies to questions last week I think I suffered a heart attck last November and had 2 operations - an emergency stent ( angioplasty) on the day of the attack, and a triple bypass in January After long and fairly painful recovery, I am now back on the road - collected the old c5 yesterday from the office car park, where it had been for 4 months ( the attack happened on the way to work, and a couple of the boys at work recovered it from the pub car park where I had pulled in and called an ambulance). Not surprisingly, the battery was flat, so I set about jump starting it from my son's Pug 207 ( he had driven me to collect it) Couldn't make head nor tail of the Puegeot battery layout - could only find one terminal hidden under a flap and the other end of the battery looked like it was inaccessible at the back of the engine bay.Plus some weird wiring on top of the battery cover - very strange. It was dark though and I was working by torchlight So gave up and called out Green Flag, who arrived quickly ang got it going from a power pack. Strangely, had to turn the key to ignition position and back 3 times before it would crank, so a couple if puzzles for me... .

Got one last year for my mk 2 c5 £110 plus vat, all told, from the main dealer. Key code is now held on the Citroen computer, so no extra cost for code discovery if you don't have the paperwork ( I didn't). Not cheap, but better than most brands

The auto-fold function can be switched off by the main dealer - computer needed, unfortunately

There are 3 bulbs in the display, unlikely to all have blown at the same time, Might be worth checking fuses first.. If they have blown, not too difficult to change. You prize off the plastic surround by digging out the lug in the bottom/centre. Then unscrew the dipay unit and replace the bulbs. They are like small Christmas tree lights

Good point - they also dropped their USP - hydractive suspension - on most models. A bad mistake in a crowded marketplace. Interesting to see Motorpoint currently have 62 reg delivery mileage vtr+ nav's on at £16k - £6k off list...

Maybe the reason for the drop-off in questions is the drop-off in the number of C5's on the road. The current/mk3 has never sold in decent numbers in the UK, and early Mk1's are now over 10 years old, so numbers must be dropping, with more being scrapped than sold new Just a theory...

Only had this once with all monitored wheels in place. I was driving near a power/grid line at the time, so put it down to radio interference. Message will come up of course if you are driving on a spare with no sensor.

Thanks for that. Just to give a bit more detail here Firstly, I couldn't do any of this myself. . Box now slips on the first gear-change on a cold morning, then behaves perfectly. Based on my previous experience over the last 2 years, this will get worse. A new auto box from Citroen would be £4k fitted (2011 price), and I wouldn't trust anything else A second hand manual box would be a few hunderd pounds - add the clutch etc, say £1k for parts, £500 labour, maybe £2k total, allowing for complications I would be prepared to pay this, as it's difficult/expensive to find a new car with equivalent spec. I don't want another old car- it would have less than a year old, ideally new. So the conversion would be a far cheaper option, and I get to keep the car I like I just don't know where to start with this - would I need a Citroen garage to be involved? Are there computer aspects to this which would mean it coudn't be done after market? Main dealers are loath to touch this kind of project, so I would need to find someone with enough C5 knowledge and access to software to pull it off. Anyone out there? Coastline?

Hi Having paid out £2k for an autobox overhaul with 1 year warranty just over a year ago, the box is just starting to slip again. This may be a daft question, but - would a manual replacement be possible? Car is a 2007 model ( 2008/08 reg) mk 2 hatch exclusive auto petrol with AL4 box, 45k miles, max value about £3k, but don't want to scrap it. Difficult to find another car with such a good spec. Any advice gratefully received Thanks

Update to this - I had the aux sockets activated and a connection box fitted in the glovebox. DAB tuner now hard-connected via fly lead which was routed behind the steering wheel for me.(tuner sits above the driver glovebox). Cost somewehere around the £100 mark, but was bundled in with service, brakes and mot, so not sure of exact cost. Nice solid reception, and I'm ready for the FM switch-off. I'm still disappointed that so many car manufacturers are hard-fitting fm radios in new cars. Built- in obsolesence! Ford and Vauxhall are pretty good in this regard, offering DAB standard or options across their ranges. But Citroen are totally intransigent, - typically French..

Looking at the MOS review of the DS5 last weekend, and I don't see the point of it. It's based on the C4 floorpan, and there is already a DS4 The C4 is a decent, if a little boring, car, and the DS4 is an over-priced tarted up version Sureley we don't need another slightly different version of the C4?? The DS5 in my opinion is ugly, with fat doors and small windows. When are they going to reprise the original DS? The C6 has dropped off the menu, so maybe there is some light at the end of this lacklustre tunnel. Do Citroen really expect to sell over-priced reworks of their standard cars with flimsy, industry-trailing 3 year warranties? Not for me Kia Cee'd anyone?

C5 Rear Wash/wipe Doing It's Own Thing
seefive replied to Kisssara's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
"Check Control" is the screen where you set the naximum speed to trigger a warning chime. Pretty basic procedure - drive to the speed you want, then hold in the stalk. Hold again to cancel ( you will want to cancel, believe me!) -
This is not a good sign,I'm afraid. I had a load of trouble with AL4 slipping, and also locking/hesitating in low gears, culminating in a £2k bill for a rebuild. On the plus side, the hesitation/locking was resolved by resetting the adaptive software. (it briefly persisted after the rebuild although the slipping was cured, which adaptives had failed to fix). May be worth an oil change too. These boxes are not "maintenence free" as Citroen would have you believe. Same box causes problems in Renaults cfryve is the resident expert on this site Bonne Chance..

It's not RDS which controls the auto-tune. It's either AF, as Coastline says, or possibly REG(ional) needs to be off.

sorry about the double-post...

No - It's not searching, and TA and REG(ional) settings are off. I use a Pure Highway DAB tuner for radio, and the 2 aerials (FM and DAB) might be conflicting, causing the signal to fade. Doesn't happen every day.. I tried my spare radio and it made no difference. Next step is to get the Highway connected into the back of the RD4 by a line in connection, and get both sockets activated, (BOGOF!) at the main dealer when it goes in for next service. That should solve it, as I won't need FM any more.

Just picking up on this old post as I'm now having the same thing happening in my 2008mk 2 with Blaupunkt RD4. Only differece is the reception comes back after a few minutes and is then fine for the rest of the journey.(so liveable with, but annoying) Changing the radio to an after-market unit is not an option on the Mk2 as it controls loads of the car's functions. Fortunately I have a spare radio, as I upgraded to the MP3 disc version when I bought the car. Anyone else had this with a mk2/RD4? Thanks

Quite agree. I've had 2 c5's both petrol - a 2002 sx manual and now a 2008 exclusive auto (mk 2). Just had a big bill on the autobox rebuild (ouch) but wouldn't change the car. Borrowed an 11 reg C4 diesel while the repair was being done, and it gave me a headache. Horrible growly engine. Don't care about MPG - have a Company fuel card..

OK finally got this sorted - complete auto box overhaul at a specialist repairer, via Citroen main dealer. Internal components apparently have a carbon coating, and this was stripped, so had to replace a lot of bits Running fine now, no hesitation or slipping. I think the state of the box was causing problems with the electronics, as the adaptives had to be reset to cure the hesitation after the overhaul. Could be previous owner put the wrong oil in?

c5 exclusive mk 2 hatch 2008. 30k miles Auto gearbox started slipping again today, after recent weeks of hesitating at junctions. Looks like it's the gearbox alternately locking up in first, and now slipping as well. Oil was changed last November at main dealer after severe slipping left me stranded one morning. It drove fine for over 6 months, then came the hesitation, difficult to get going, and now the slipping returns to haunt me. Next step is to get the oil checked and topped up (again). No signs of leakage though. If that doesn't cure it, I have no idea what else to try. Exchange box? Is it feasible to swap to a manual box? Would certainly be more economical. Any ideas welcome. Thanks

I had exactly the same problem on my old 2002 Mk1 2.0 petrol sx (non hpi) After numerous passes, incuding changing the coolant temp sensor, it was diagnosed by an engine diagnostic specialist as a sticking valve. The car wasn't worth enough to spend the kind of money necessary to prove that, so I lived with it. Hydraulic lifter cleaner added to the oil helped to calm it down, and made it tolerable. Oil temp never gets to the middle of the guage - my current late model Mk2 is eactly the same, as are the Peugeots which have the same oil temp guage. Nothing to worry about there. Main dealer told me the air pump was faulty, but I could hear (and feel) it working on start up - so be careful with that route. Could be an expensive waste of money. Good luck, don't spend too much on it - second hand C5's are not exactly valuable!

If you must stay with Citroen, why not wait and look at the DS5 , next year? Should be a lot better/more interesting than the current C5, and I believe it will bear a resemblance to the original DS, which can't be bad.. Or take a broader view - there are lots of cars out there with better warranties and customer service than Citroen, and better reliability too. It's a buyer's market right now with big price reductions up front. (Vauxhall 20% Skoda 25% for example) Good luck with your search

Thanks for the reply. I'm now having the problem when it's warm too, so starting to suspect the throttle ( car has cruise control, so uses a position sensor and eletronics ). Will drop it into the main dealer if/when it gets worse, but not a big problem at the moment.

Hi 2 litre petrol auto exclusive mk2 Strange thing happened as I turned into work yesterday. Going over a speed bump (slowly) the revs died completely, but the power steering kept working, and no dash lights on. Stopped (brake servo still working) and restarted the engine and all was well again. Been having some problems with hesitation/engine not responding when moving off, but thought it was the gearbox. Maybe it's the engine? Throttle sensor? Injectors blocked? How does the steering keep working when the engine isn't turning? Should I be worried? Thanks for any information/help
