I have the EGS system in my Grand Picasso. Works well. Have to use it more like a regular manual. Can be set to full auto but it changes gear faster in manual. Also smoother too. Can however leave it in full auto mode and just use the paddles to change when you want. Even in manual mode though it will down change on its own for you when slowing down. Found it alright personally. I have the 2.0 HDI and nothing bad to say about it. More fun than an automatic and I feel more in control of the car.

I honestly think the JD power survey is extremely flawed. Things just don't add up with it to be completely honest. The C4 range is an odd one. The C4 Picasso is best of class. While the C4 hatch and coupe with the same engines and gearboxes etc are not reliable and the result is it came 2nd from bottom in its class. Also marked down as below average on looks for the C4. I am sorry but the C4 is a better looking car than the A class mercedes. Yet the C4 got 2 stars for looks the A class got 5 I believe....Honestly! One is a sporty looking hatch the other is basically a van with more windows. I honestly think it comes down to badge snobbery and those who do get lemons of cars complaining massively while those who have perfect cars never say anything. I mean someone buys a VW it develops a rattle you take it back to the dealers and ask them to fix it. Then say the dealers were great. That happens to a Citroen you get 5 threads on the forum about how it is the worst built car ever. How rubbish Citroens are and you are never buying another one.

Driven my mums last 3 cars which had conventional autos in them. I just used to put the handbrake on like normal and put it into neutral. Never caused a problem with any of the last 3 cars I have driven with autos.

Isn't that the EGS you are describing? The Automatic is a proper auto isn't it?

I checked confused.com. Twas crap but then again no matter which company you go to on there for insurance 1 company gets all the money. They use lots of insurers but they all belong to the same group. Moneysupermarket returns generally better quotes but still were too expensive. Lowest quote I got was £1200 on the comparison websites...this was on my VTS180 group 15. 25yrs old 6yrs NCB and a totally standard car. Rang Brentacre who I was recommended to by various people on another forum as they deal with hot hatches, highly modified cars etc. Brentacre policy = £680 with remap, Induction kit, 18" pro race 1.2's and Lowering declared. And they will also cover my mods like for like in the event of an accident. As long as I do not go over 200hp all my mods are free. And they were 1/2 the price of any of the major companies who were ridiculously overpriced. Policy is actually with Highway. If I go over 200hp then it increases slightly. Talking £10 - £20 slightly.

£55 a tyre  I wish mine were only £55. Got a quote to replace mine and put the Michelin Pilot Exaltos back on...£168 a corner! Admittedly that is a 225/40/18 sized tyre. But nearly £700 for 4 tyres :(

Merry christmas although I am a bit late.

If the car is under warranty...its covered. The only thing the warranty does not cover is consumables. Brake pads, Clutch etc. Rattles, electrical faults (Like this) mechanical issues etc are all warranty work. So get it booked in. Pretty much everything is covered under warranty. I had mine in the other day for a new washer tube and to enable the display in the centre to show the parking sensor display. Lot less than this. Only took them 30 minutes to do on the day as well just turned up.

Need to link photos from photobucket or something similar. Can't upload to the forum no more due to us getting lots of porn spam uploaded. And no it is the old shape C4. Don't like the new one as much, they have reduced the specs on the new ones. VTR+'s no longer have climate etc. Also don't like the interior as much on the newer ones.

Welcome back again. I have since got rid of my Wicked red VTR+. Now have a Scott Yellow VTS180 Petrol C4 instead. Pick it up next Wednesday so looking forward to that.

I have just taken my insurance out with Brentacre with a modified car policy. I am based in Manchester have a City postcode so that makes it more expensive and on a 2.0 180hp C4 VTS. Was quoted £680 originally on standard car £730 with any modifications I want up to a 200hp limit. No admin fees when declaring mods in future. They also replace mods like for like in the event of an accident. Makes it great should I wish to lower it etc in future as there is nothing extra to pay I just need to let them know so they can add it to the policy so it can be replaced should I have an accident. However the best bit is that they covered me cheaper than anywhere else and were willing to take my fleet insurance NCB into account and gave me full NCB. Which is great as technically I have no no claims however I have been insured on a car as the only driver for 6 years with no accidents so they honoured that. Best bit was that they were £600! less than the next best quote which was from Directline. Friend has just has his Focus ST insured with them and they were over £800 cheaper than anywhere else.

Hope you are happy with it mate and it is trouble free for you. I did say the FR was stiff. They do drive really nicely if you are having fun. But for everyday if you commute on rough roads it is going to get annoying. The diesel engines on the VAG cars are known as being a bit rougher than the French HDI's. Just one of those things. But if you want a remap etc then the power increases are a fair bit more on the VAG engines. I know REVO's map takes the 140 up to around 185hp and nearly 300ft lbs of torque. Some of the seat garages are also quite happy to get the remapping done for you. I asked about it when I was looking at the Cupra's. What their position was on remapping, I was told "While we won't do it we can get it booked in up the road for you." Also said they would still honour the warranty as well. Heard that some dealers are now offering it in house as well. So if you fancy some more grunt ask them.
-
I still say go and take them for a drive. The FR though is setup to be very stiff. Might not be a big issue to you. I still very nearly bought a Leon myself wasn't a fan of the interior but the 300hp from a remap was rather tempting. As I said I didn't fit in the Astra and know some others who have had trouble but I don't know if that was due to me only trying the VXR with the different seats I never actually tried the normal cars out. Oddly though I thought the new Corsa felt more roomy up front in the cabin than the Astra.

Driven both the cars you are looking at. If you are looking at the sport hatch astra...I hope you are not tall. As I was rather uncomfortable in them head touching roof and I am not exactly tall at 5'11". That was with the seat as low as it would go. The Seats are lovely to drive. Interiors are shocking on the new ones though feel rather cheap the dash especially and bloody ugly inside. However the seats, gear change etc feels nice as does the general experience of driving it. They are also fairly quick and easy to make quicker. However if you regularly carry passengers missus etc they might not like it quite so much. The ride quality is...harsh. You will feel pretty much everything. And while the car is very capable it just feels a bit numb to drive. Even the 240hp Cupra never really seemed to feel like it was a serious hot hatch apart from when you looked at the speedo. It just does everything so well that it is somewhat boring to drive. Just depends what you are after in a car.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I am starting to notice a lot of these problems are 2.0 HDI issues which are cropping up. Same on the C4Owners site as well. We also have a 2.0 HDI EGS Grand Picasso so hoping we don't get these issues. Also checked a few Ford sites out and reports of similar issues. with the engine being shared with so many marques the problems come up more often. So just keep that in mind if you look for a Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Jaguar, Volvo and probably a few more....the engine is the same. As are all the diesels virtually. Hence same common problems. The 1.6 HDI seems to be more reliable. I have just swapped my petrol C4 VTR+ for another Petrol VTS had one of the guys at citroen check it out before hand never had a single piece of warranty work done on it. And was in perfect condition. So has not stopped me buying it. Although the petrol VTS's seem to be quite low on things that go wrong with the exhaust being the main weak link it seems and bloody expensive to replace. So not looking forward to that when it goes.

The segment itself isn't really dying. It is the general state of the current economy forcing people out of performance cars. That and the recent tax hikes. I mean my C4 is £300 a year to tax next year £210 this year. Some of the other cars are £400+. Which is a fair sum of money. Mix in increased insurance costs and petrol costs and you can see why the cars aren't selling. Once things settle down though it will pick up again. The amount of performance cars coming to the market now is pretty much higher than ever before. Even the Americans are getting in on the act. The new Chevrolet Camaro is coming here. There is rumour that the Ford Mustang will be hitting Europe in 2012 when the new one is due as they are also designing it with RHD markets in mind.

Citroen are already sort of building a spiritual successor to the VTS. In the next model C3 which many people are expecting to have the 1.6 Turbo 175hp engine which is actually 190/200hp typically according to most of the automotive press. New C4 carries a slightly detuned version of the engine at the moment but will likely end up getting either the 175 or 215hp versions in the future. But the brand is more about promoting green cars at the moment. There are still the fun nimble quick hot hatches in the C4 VTS and C2 VTS. The VTR's were always the slower cars VTS was always the quick ones. I moved from a C4 VTR with 110hp to the C4 VTS with 180hp and more than happy with the upgrade. Going to be getting a few mods done which should see power rise to 190 - 195hp and mid to low 7's 0-60. So plenty quick enough while still being comfortable and a great looking car. Still had Citroen gone all out and made a 2.0 Turbo C4 VTS with 220+HP I would have preferred that. Doesn't even need to be FWD just tweak the suspension and brakes a bit add a Limited slip diff and a decent close ratio 6 speed box that had a nicer change and it would be fine. Although a balls out 300hp 4WD version would be amazing. However if you want that kind of power there are plenty of companies around willing to slap a Turbo or Supercharger onto the VTS for £6000ish.

You also get them cheaper over on the C4Owners club think they are around £17 each side there direct from the dealer.
-
Just get on the phone to everyone you can. With so many variables postcode, job type, mileage etc for every ones policy what can be cheap for 1 person is ridiculous for another. I know the feeling though as I have just gone from site to site and constantly phoning companies at the moment trying to get the best deal. Really do just have to shop around though.

Last week. Not picked it up yet. Took me a while to find one in Scott Yellow and this one I saw on autotrader one night. Called them first thing the next morning. Told them I was coming from Manchester to see it and could they hold it for me if anyone comes in for it. Drove down to Weston Super Mare took it for a test drive checked it over for the usual problems and put a Deposit down. Pick it up 1st week of November I think. Got to get some bits done to it first, Service and a few paint repairs which Citroen have to agree with. Also want to wait till I am 25 and got my extra year NCB as I was having trouble getting it insured under 25 due to living in Manchester.

Not really anything particular I just liked the way the C4 Coupe looked so bought one. Originally had a wicked red 1.6 VTR+. Now have a Scott Yellow VTS 180. So fuel economy isn't a big concern, nor is tax etc since I choose the most expensive to run car in the lineup. Selling points though. Cheap especially with the cash back offers and rather negotiable prices. Yes they depreciate quite badly but you tend to spend a lot less on them so while it may look like your car has lost £12k in the first 3 years...its only lost around 1/2 that when you take into account the cash back etc. Well equipped, drive well, goes well. Distinctive styling. Comfortable. I tried out loads of other cars and felt that the Focus, Astra, Corolla etc were all dull boring and not particularly comfortable in comparison to the C4. Hence I bought a C4.

Most of the time it is covered by your normal car insurance policy. I know mine covers broken windows. As I had to have my upper rear one replaced last year after a group of chavs decided it needed to be smashed.

All I have on the C4 is a universal Quadlock to ISO adaptor that was adjusted to work. -
Yep those are the correct pressure you have got. Or if you are wanting it in PSI as someone else did the conversion down below. unladen 35psi front. 30psi rear laden 35psi front. 39psi rear Sticker is not actually on the door. So can't see how a new door would have caused it to go missing. Seems odd it is not there though.

Simple answer the red and yellow wires are probably the wrong way round. Happens sometimes. Easy enough to fix though.
