  1. You are not the first to have a dodgy clutch. Which engine is it out of curiosity? Mine started like that and the clutch was dead before 8000 miles. If you get a decent dealer they would be willing to look at it as it is a somewhat known issue that some of the clutches were not quite right. There have been numerous people on here with new clutches / flywheels etc all done under warranty as it was found to be manufacturing defect. THink there is at least 5 people on here who have had replacements. More common on the 1.6 petrol than the others. In my case they did not believe me until I broke down at 4am and had to get it towed back to the dealers the following day. They tried to charge me for it at first until I pointed out I had been complaining something was wrong for quite some time. They did the work and funnily enough I did not have to pay for anything...manufacturing fault.

    C5

Basically what this should say is buy a C5 just dont buy an auto if you want fuel economy. Saying that heard of lots of electrical gremlins on the C5 but I do really like the look of the new one coming out lovely looking car.
  3. Never knew that.
  4. They do fold in on all the cars you just have to be fairly tough with pushing them in as in feels like they are about to break but will then go in. However they do not go in very much.
  5. It does indeed allow full control via the steering controls and also display folders etc on the main screen. Dave C4Owner has some pictures of his fitted on the other website and a lot more info since he actually has one.
  6. £117.50 if you get them via the C4owners site as long as you are a premier member (£10). But gives you discount to lots of Citroen parts and accessories which come from a main dealer as well and many other after market parts from various suppliers.

    Glove Box Help

Take it to the dealers they may fix it for you. Its somewhat of a known issue the glove boxes can be a bit iffy.
  8. Could probably get one from the headunit. Or the ignition. Another option could be to hardwire the satnav power cable and then run it up and out of the top of the dash by the A pillar. Could probably get it so it could be quite well hidden
  9. Did you ever see those tests on the 5th gear website they went to some company Ford or someone else and tested all those octane boosters on some turbo'd engines. They actual results were that most of them lost power and not 1 of the test showed them gaining anything at all. You are definitely right on supermarket petrol though. Now we all know it really comes from the same company as there are only a couple refineries. But it is what else that is added that gives the lower MPG etc. On V-power petrol it's easy for me to get above 30mpg. On normal shell stuff I get around 38mpg on Tesco stuff...24mpg. Did this a few times thinking it was me after the 4th tank full of Tesco fuel I decided not to go back there again. Especially as it is the same price as the local shell garage. Infact the local Tesco is now more expensive. Tried the same test on the other car. With Tesco fuel it struggles to get 20mpg usually 17 - 18mpg at shell it managed a rather good 22mpg. Tesco fuel is generally shite though I find. And on the Clio forum ( I used to own a Clio) The same thing has been said hundreds of times that Tesco fuel gives lower MPG.
  10. I think if you hold the windscreen washer in for a certain length of time it washes the headlights as well. Not entirely sure if thats right. But guessing you have a VTS / Exclusive or the xenon headlight upgrade. They will be headlight washers as all xenons that are factory fitted are required to have them by law. If it has not gone back in itself take it to the dealer it might need replacing they should go in without you having to push them. And people in the past on here have said theirs stopped working properly.
  11. Thats because you were probably driving it...like an Auto. Which it isn't. It is a Manual gearbox with a robotised clutch. So if you dont back of the gas inbetween changes you get that nice jerky change. Drive it like a manual with no clutch coming off between changes and it's not soo bad. I still prefer a Manual though. More for the fact I just feel more in control. Its one of those instances where it's all in my head but I prefer it.
  12. Not had it give me a message about it in months. Only done it twice since I had the car got them to check it once and they found nothing wrong. Car is going in for new CV boot soon anyway so will get it checked then.
  13. Had it a couple times with mine but turning off and back on again usually sorts it. I put it down to a sensor glitch. Otherwise the car is no different you just get that annoying beep with the message and thats it nothing else.

    C4 Shocks

Fair enough mate. The only issue I have had with mine has been the clutch. Everything else ride noise etc has been great. My mate with a focus even commented how smooth it seems and how nicely it goes over bumps. Guess it's one of those things. I was annoyed when the clutch went as the dealer was hopeless saying it was normal until it turned up on the back of a truck they had to acknowledge the issue then. My new dealer is great they sorted problems the first dealer never fixed like a small rattle I could not trace myself they managed to sort it etc. Really depends on if you get a good dealer or not I find. Thankfully my oldest friends brother runs the service department at mine now. Means I get great service. They even replaced a blown headlight bulb for me a couple weeks ago free of charge. Have to admit I am really happy with the C4 so much I am considering an upgrade to a VTS. Just waiting on this new 1.6 turbo one to finally hit showrooms. Motoring press have said it will be coming for months yet we are still waiting.

    C4 Shocks

Although a few people have had them repaired it still seems to be a very small minority. On the other forum even with the 1600+ members I can count on 1 hand how many times it has come up. So with that in mind it isn't that bad. Annoying when it happens to you same with the clutch issues on the earlier cars. Which is sorted on the later ones. Parts get changed through the cars life unfortunately for some of us due to us being early adopters of the car we basically get to be guinea pigs. Citroens reliability though has come along way judging by the recent surveys that were done putting the marque ahead of every other European brand.

    Rattles

Well in that case take it to the dealer tell them its rattling. If they dont fix it bitch slap the senior guy and tell him it should be on his computer. ...I of course am only joking. But it would be a bit of a laugh.
  17. Have you had a look in the local scrap yards? Will likely only cost you a couple quid from there. And it is not an item that is likely to be in bad condition or will be broke.
  18. When you open the drivers door there should be a plaque there with the recommended pressures depending on weight you're carrying etc.

    Rattles

We are still waiting on him posting up the information to the problem but look on http://C4owners.org and do a search on rattles you will find most of the complaints are from the 2004 - 2005 cars. And they seem to have sorted it in the later builds.

    Rattles

This is a known issue on earlier cars. According to one of the techs on the C4 forum there is actually a bulletin for the dealers about rattling doors. The dealer should really have been able to sort this for you.
  21. If you want to go with a turbo engine why not drop an engine that is already turbocharged into the car? Say like a VW 1.8 turbo can pick them up pretty cheap they are already good for 200+hp straight away with no real mods and will work out a lot cheaper. Will cost a small fortune setting up a properly done turbo conversion.
  22. It is only going back to something more akin to what diesel engines started out as. An engine designed to run on peanut oil. Few modifications can have them running on veg oil etc without problems. Just more modern engines tend to throw up error codes etc. Not quite as simple with more modern engines as the computer reports anything out of the norm as an issue and tends to do something about it. Still to me makes no difference....mines a petrol and even if I had a diesel I still wouldn't put anything but diesel in it. To me if you cant afford a simple thing like fuel you cant afford the car. If it gets to the point I can not afford to run my car properly I will buy something smaller and cheaper to run. Until that point though I am going to sit and happily not care about fuel prices right now. Although can imagine its a bit of a bugger up there at £1.18 a litre. Utter rip off. Still only 99p here.
  23. No magic portions but just be careful with some of these fuel additives. While they work some of them have a nasty habit of damaging car injectors. However since the xantia isn't as fussy as the newer cars. You could probably get away running veg oil in those at least a partial mix might help bring costs down even more. Know a couple people who have run 106's and 306's on nothing else but veg oil and have done for more than a year. 50 / 50 mix might be worth a try anyway. Least then you get half the tank filled for 50p a litre. Not recommended so much for newer vehicles though.
  24. The only problem doing that would be it wouldn't last long before it was off the air again. TopGear used to do proper reviews and it was canned as a result of no one wanting to watch it. With the internet you have the best resource for real reviews. You can speak to the owners about the cars which to me is much better than some journalist giving there views on the car. As the motoring press are so biased. You can read 1 review of a car in 1 magazine which gives the car rewards and read another magazine which says the car is absolutely crap and should be avoided at all costs. Least the owners actually give you the truth.

    C2 Vts 1.6hdi

Once you get it and have done some miles on it get it remapped 145ish bhp and better MPG with a large increase in driveability and torque. Irons out all the flat spots etc. In a car that size that has to be fun.
