Drl's - I Have Them But They Don't Work. Why?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
No it's a sensible idea. In fact, I think the link that Paul has posted in Post number 6 uses LED replacement bulbs. -
A guy who used to be on one of my other forums who sadly died before his time often wrote about diesel fuels. He was a petrochemical scientist and worked in The Hague as the UK rep to the European Standards Committee for all motor vehicle fuels. The points he often made when the topic came up were:- 1. All pump diesel in Europe is produced to meet the relevant EN standard - which you will see written on the pump body. EN590 2. The major difference between the supermarket fuels and the branded fuels is the exact nature of the additive pack added to the fuel when it leaves the refinery - common rail pump lubricants, injector cleaners, etc. Normal Diesel............. This is a straight distillation fraction from crude oil, produced by the nearest refinery to the fuel depot - so for instance, diesel refined by Shell may be sold by any of the other retailers close to that Shell refinery. The major difference is the additive pack - which is brand specific - and the addition of bio-diesel. Synthesised Diesel............The exception to this is the "synthesised" diesel fuels, such as BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power and Total Excellium. These fuels are manufactured in the refinery by joining simple petroleum hydrocarbons into an exact diesel fuel - you'll need some experience of university level Chemistry to follow what they do - so just accept that they are better - higher cetane rating, better additive pack, etc. He usually pointed out that the engine must be a modern diesel that is able to retune itself to benefit from these fuels. On the subject of after market additives, he wrote that products like Millers improve the cetane rating of standard diesel, but only when the engine is cold - interestingly it doesn't help a hot engine - so cold starting is usually quieter but no difference to a hot engine - and Millers does provide good, additional pump lubricity.

No more so than the other bulbs, but they get more use, being on most of the time. -
Mynav-How Do I Delete Satnav Journeys?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Are they originals or pirated copies? The one in my car (I think) is a copy. It's just a plain Kingston SD card with I believe, a lot of the information not included. -
Towing With 2010 C5 Tourer Vtr+Nav-Any Tips?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Yes - the Picasso is a very popular tow car with our European caravanners, especially the Dutch. There were two Dutch caravanners arrived on my site in Spain last winter. Both newish PICASSOS so must be 1.6 HDIs (unless Citroen do 2.0 Ltr models on the Continent?) but they were towing Hobby Excellent models, so would be heavy. Maybe they don't worry too much about 85% -
Towing With 2010 C5 Tourer Vtr+Nav-Any Tips?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Yes - I don't put anything in the van that could go in the car. Only bedding and food for journey and fridge stuff goes in the van. -

Yes - it is. -
Move the bumper forward a couple of inches or so, then pull each side outwards to release the clips..

Mynav-How Do I Delete Satnav Journeys?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
On mine, I find I can delete previous destinations individually. High light the destination you need to delete and give the centre OK button a long press - and the destination disappears. HOWEVER . I've tried the methods you outlined in posts 8&11. On mine when I want to enter a destination, all I get for choice is CITY. When I press setup, all that shows is TIME & DATE; and a choice of Fahrenheit or Celsius. Could it be that my SD card is missing a lot of data? When I take it out it looks very much like a pirate copy. ie; just a plain Kingston SD card. -
Towing With 2010 C5 Tourer Vtr+Nav-Any Tips?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
No - unless your towbar manufacturer forbids it. Or unless you carry a mass of gear in the load area of the car. I used to worry when I set off to spend the winter in Spain, that I was too heavily loaded. A couple of years ago I decided to weigh every container that I loaded into the car. I started with 90Kgs for myself, then the tool boxes, followed with every other item including the awning and poles. The final total came out at just over 350Kgs. The payload for the car was nearly 600Kgs. I think our VTRs on steel springs is a bit less than the hydraulic suspension. -
Towing With 2010 C5 Tourer Vtr+Nav-Any Tips?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I also have a 2010 VTR+Nav Tourer which I've had since last March and it is equipped for towing. So far my two trips have covered 850 miles of towing. Before getting the present car, I'd used hydropnuematic Citroens for 23 years and I spent some time wondering whether I could live without the oily suspension. I've been pleasantly surprised. In fact, I think the car on it's steel springs rides better when it has the caravan attached. Fuel consumption is also better than my previous C5 136. For most of a towed journey I find I can put the car in 6th gear and apply the cruise control set for 60mph. The only time I miss the hydraulic suspension is when hitching and unhitching the van. -
Reading your other post, I thought perhaps you were just trying to change a bulb. Yes - to change the light unit, then you will need to remove the bumper. Then the cross bar needs to come off since the bottom bolts are behind it. See topic http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/7902-xsara-sidelight-bulbs/- post No 4 for a picture.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since I opened this topic. Since then, two bulbs have gone in the headlight units and on both occasions I've been abroad. Halfords have replaced the bulb each time - all apparently without removing the bumper. However if you're removing the bumper, I think there are four bolts on the bumper to front panel - not three. Also the bumper is held by clips at each side. To release them pull the bumper forward slightly (about 2"), then outwards to release the clip. Better to release one side at a time. Here's a piccy showing the clip. It's on a C5 but the Xsara is similar. Take care - they're brittle. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/P1020093.jpg[/url]

But only if it's an exclusive.

Some Mk3s have a USB socket in the armrest. Others (like ours doesn't. In the top of the glove box there's a socket into which an MP3 player can be plugged.

Hello & welcome to the forum. That sounds like a nice car!

Our picture upload system doesn't work at the moment. Best bet is to upload to Photobucket or Flickr then post the link from there.

Hello & welcome to the forum.............I don't think you will be able to switch on the fog lights unless the headlights are already on. All the switches below the steering wheel are all combined into a Comms 2000 which when one switch fails, the whole unit is replaced, although it's possible to get repairs done on them. Replacing the Comms unit needs to be done with care since it involves disturbing the airbag.

I don't know for sure but rear screen must be replaceable in the event of damage

Mynav-How Do I Delete Satnav Journeys?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
I discovered that just recently when I was away on holiday and entered a postcode. It eventually asked for a street name - which I didn't have. I ended up switching on my Tomtom. When I'm travelling I always use GPS coordinates but haven't managed to find out how to enter them in the C5 satnav. What's the procedure? Also do you know if it's possible to change the voice from female to male. I've nothing against being instructed by a woman - it's just that my hearing impediment picks up low male frequencies better than the higher female frequencies. -
Do All Mk3 C5's Have Drl's?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
If you haven't already signed up, you should, for www.service.citroen.com -- there's a pinned posting somewhere telling you how to join. If you input your VIN and click on characteristics, and go down to electrical, a whole list will appear of what electrical equipment is, and what isn't fitted on your particular car when it was built. As far as I'm aware all Mk3 have them, it's just that some have them disabled. -
Towing Mirors For Mk3 C5 Tourer?
Johndouglas replied to Sixchannel's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
You've reached the same problem which I arrived at about three months ago. I've used the same pair on a BX, a Xantia and a Mk2 C5, but useless on the X7. I had to buy another pair. The ones I went for are these:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-of-Maypole-Extension-Towing-Convex-Glass-Mirrors-Caravan-MP8323-/221261911669?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item33843cd675 I've used them on two occasions and I find them vibration free and secure. Because of the roundness of the top edge of our mirrors, I find it's best if the two clamps on the towing mirror are placed fairly close together. I tried clamping them on the lower edge which is straighter. In that position the mirrors wouldn't fold. -

Yes - Unless you can find someone near to you who has one.
