  1. Our four cars live their entire lives in the open. The Saxo and the 306 have had 16 years of weather and they don't look any the worse for it. On the other hand, my neighbour has his little-used second car under a tie-down cover, and each time the wind blows, the cover flaps and tries to get free, which can't do the paint surface much good. I would give your car a clean and a good coating of wax polish - then leave it outside.
  2. Raise the suspension before jacking up.
  3. Have you looked at the drop link joints. They shouldn't be worn at 60000 miles but might be.
  4. A can of aerosol foam is all very well but what happens when you're stuck on the hard shoulder with a torn tyre and in desperate need of a new one. There's no opportunity to shop around. You'll pay the price that's demanded for a premium tyre and 205sx16 don't come cheap.
  5. It just so happens that my youngest daughter is looking at 1.6 VTR+ C4's at the moment. She's looking at 6 month old cars with low mileage and prices seem to be heavily discounted compared with new prices. Your price is similar to others we've looked at. It seems that C4's don't come with a spare wheel now but can be supplied as an extra for £75. It might make a good bargaining point in deciding a deal.
  6. Of course, it's a shocking thing for any family to lose a loved one and I'm saddened to hear of the loss of the OP's family member. And it's natural to want to blame somebody or something for what has happened. However for the benefit of other forum members who have still to read this topic, it's only fair to point them towards the Euro Ncap report on the C4:- The C4 is a strong performing car, deserving its five-star rating for occupant protection. The stable passenger cell protected all occupants well. The restraint systems include dual stage airbags, belt pre-tensioners and load limiters, seat mounted side airbags and a head protecting curtain airbag. An intelligent seat belt reminder operates for the driver and rear passengers. Child protection was good and that for pedestrians was also very effective. Front impact The body suffered minimal deformation and the driver’s door could be opened and closed normally afterwards. The dual-stage airbags and belt pre-tensioners in combination with load limiters and the stable structure worked well, keeping loads on the driver’s chest and legs low. Much work has been carried out in the drivers knee impact area to reduce injuries but contact with a metal plate at the steering column still posed a risk. The footwell suffered little intrusion and control of the pedals in the crash was good. Side impact A very impressive protection system includes seat-mounted thorax airbags and a head curtain airbag, which also protects those seated in the rear.
  7. Electric windows not behaving and also lots of other small electrical faults can often be corrected by doing a BSI reset. This is what may have happened when you changed the battery.
  8. Hello & welcome to the forum.........................Got your PM thank you. To register on www.service.citroen.com you need to register as another professional and member of the Citroen Owners Club. Let me know how you get on.
  9. Please to hear you've got your car level again. Regarding the rear arm bearings, have a look at this topic:- http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/8037-c5-rear-suspension/
  10. [quote name="onthecut" post="79734" timestamp="1408390666" As a matter of interest, did you wind up doing the head gasket on your Xantia ? Quote No - I ran it from new up to 7 years old and 98000 miles and never a spot of bother with it.
  11. Hello & welcome to the forum. I also came from a 2.1 Xantia Estate to a 2005 Exclusive C5. Probably the lack of leather on them is due to the fact that adding leather was a £1000 option. Can you explain your disappointment with the brakes?
  12. Sounds as though the front height corrector has stuck on high. Get under the car with a can of WD40 and give the HC a good soaking. IMPORTANT. Don't get under the car until you have put axle stands under the sills. If the HC suddenly decides to move, the car can suddenly drop close to the ground.
  13. Your LDS shouldn't be milky white. It should be orange. Obviously something has been added to the tank. If the car is new to you can'r you return it to the seller for there comments. A garage should put it right. LDS is expensive - around a tenner per litre and you'll need four litres for your system. Draining entirely is a complicated procedure since if the pump gets air into it, the system needs to be put under pressure to refill the pump. The concern, if 'foreign' liquids is put into the hydraulic system is that the rubber seals may be damaged.
  14. Have you tried a BSI reset? Many small electrical niggles can clear up after having done one
  15. Where did you get the 12volt reading when the dash cam wouldn't work? My daughter on her Xsara has the dash cam connected permanently to the cigar lighter socket. I do likewise on my C5.
  16. That's called "a good result".............. ;)
  17. Cant help you with any of these since I understand less of Myway than you do. However I use Microsoft AutoRoute for planning journeys and that has the "optimize the route" facility. What it does is look at your starting point, your destination and all the waypoints in between. "Optimize" looks at the order of the waypoints and it would stop you from retracing your steps. In other words it checks the order of your stopping places to ensure that you cover the least miles. Maybe Myway works similarly.
  18. The same thing happens with mine. I know that the quickest way for a journey via the M25 is to join at Jnc 8 or Jnc 10 (depending on which direction I'm going,, but Myway always wants me to join at Jnc 9. I find that if I ignore the spoken route, it very soon 'joins' me and replans the journey to jnc.8. -- unlike my Tomtom which takes much longer. It carries on telling me to "turn around when possible" for dozens of miles.
  19. Thank you for that. I'm beginning to think that on our Myways there not an option to change the voice from female to male. Although Seefive seems to be able to do it on his - but his doesn;t use an SD card. At least you're getting some GPS positioning,- on mine, I don't get any, but unless you have an option, it looks as though it's in mins and secs. I much prefer to use the metric choice and when I'm travelling I use it all the time. Much more precise than using a post code. OK next thing is to look at it on ebay. Thanks again.
  20. That's interesting. Will it plan a destination by using GPS coordinate? And if so will it do both Metric coordinates with five digits after the point, and also In mins, secs. Also can you see an option to change voices between male and female? Sorry for so many questions. Could you post the ebay link as well.
  21. Just out of interest, where are you able to drive your Xsara at 170kph?
  22. I believe the mileage is stored in the BSI. There have been other members who have changed the instrument cluster and BSI and they have found the same thing happening. I have seen adverts for "mileage correction" which I've always taken to mean "winding back the speedo. Before changing equipment again, it might be worth your while to look into it. Google "Mileage correction services" Here's one that comes up:- http://www.eurodashservices.co.uk/services_dmc.html
  23. You're right! Your engine won't be 1.5 because TUDs were never used in early Xsaras. More likely to be the XUD9 which is a 1.9 turbo diesel. I'm not surprised that your engine tends to run hot when you drive it in excess of 160kph. Over it's 15 year life time it will have collected quite a bit of residue in the radiator and cooling system. Even when the car was new and it was driven in perfect conditions (and probably stripped almost bare, it's maximum speed on the spec sheet was 170kph. As you say, at a more moderate speed there's nothing wrong the car.
  24. It is - but many owners use the Chinese clone model. Several offers on ebay.
  25. I've emailed one of the £30 sellers this morning and he's confirmed that they are not the genuine article. That's not to say they won't work correctly.
