  1. If you've got 82K on the clock and you don't know the history of the car then yes, get the belt changed fairly soon. And it's a good idea to change the pump at the same time. Also put a new auxilliary belt on it as well. Whether or not you could do a belt change, would depend on your DIY skills and your comprehensive tool box. It was reported on this forum a few years ago that some of your models had broken their cambelts and suffered serious engine damage. If I remember correctly water from the windscreen was ending up over the engine. If you use the search feature, you'll find the topic. Being as you have a 2.2 then yes, you'll have a particle filter as well. The 2ltr models didn't until late 2004. The eolys fluid goes in a 5ltr tank that lays alongside the fuel tank on the opposite side to the filler neck. There are two types of eolys, which type you need will depend on your build date. Regarding the oil. Ideally you need 5/40 API CF.
  2. What a frightener for you. Best wishes for the future. Look after yourself.
  3. Never done the job but it's one that needs a special tool and a good tool kit. Here's a useful video showing how to do it:. And here's the tool you'll need: http://www.motorsport-tools.com/sealey-lower-ball-joint-socket-set-2pc-sx0271-p-249068.html
  4. New price is £126+carriage. One from a breaker would be around £45 - if you can find one! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-BERLINGO-2008-ONGOING-WING-NEW-ANY-COLOUR-INSURANCE-APPROVED-/251069471641?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a74e81b99#ht_5587wt_1083
  5. Probably it would flatten the battery over time, especially if it's a 70ah replacement battery. I left my C5 for a week having forgotten the Tomtom was plugged in. By the time I'd unlocked the car and the suspension pump had lifted it, there wasn't enough to start. I couldn't advise on changing the system. I would imagine it's all controlled by the BSI.
  6. A few years ago a similar thing happened with our Xsara. Not very time it was driven - only sometimes but there was no loss of coolant I swopped the sender unit in the end of the cylinder head and all was well there after.
  7. Sounds as though internal pressure is forcing the cap off the bleed hole - it's only a weak plastic thread. Simple problems first!! Has the coolant been refilled recently? Has the system been bled properly?
  8. When you get around to doing the job, bear in mind that each side winds in in a different direction. Offside goes back anticlockwise, nearside clockwise.
  9. You should get hold of a Haynes manual. It's described in there. Haynes gives the job 3 spanners - 1 spanner easy; 5 spanners difficult. To remove you first need to take off the auxillary belt. Make a drawing of the belt's layout. Without it, you'll never get the belt back on. Also, you'll find there are many different alternators fitted to the Xsaras. It's important that you fit the same model.
  10. Yes - I go along with what Paul has said. The 1.6 is under-powered for a car as heavy as the C5. And there's the well doumented turbo trouble. An owner on another forum has both a 2.2 and a 2ltr. According to him, the fuel consumption on the 2.2 is quite a bit more than the 2 ltr. Mine is a 2ltr and over a month the fuel consumption usually comes in at around 45mpg. I also tow a caravan with it which usually gives 28.5mpg. But for the benefit of other caravanners - I recently drove back from southern Spain in appalling snowy conditions, at least for some of the way. Because of the slush on the road for about 150 miles, I put the car in 5th gear, set the cruise to 50mph, reset the fuel readout and was amazed that for the 150 miles, I got 34.5mpg. Also, as far as the particle filter goes, to avoid the expense of refilling the Eolys container, the filter can be removed without any ill-effect. Mine was removed 18 months ago with the ECU being modified, and at MOT time, the smoke test shows just a slightly higher figure.
  11. It isn't essential to purchase a tool to wind the pistons. If you have a length of 8mm steel rod, it can be bent into a 'U' shape which will do the job. Place the ends into the piston end and use a tommy bar to help with the turning.
  12. Does the engine turn over. If so, how many times do you try it.
  13. I don't think you need to worry about the turbo. Do your oil change and filter change. Start the engine with foot off pedal. The turbo won't really start spinning until you're revving the engine.
  14. My daughter's Xsara produced a noise - but only when it was driven in reverse. After checking several suggestions, it was discovered it had a broken suspension spring. Might be worth a look.
  15. No! there's no warnings given on the dash.
  16. I don't know whether level sensors are fitted throughout the range, but my 2005 Exclusive has one.
  17. Sorry you have that wrong. Mine is an exclusive C5 and front and rear sensors were standard
  18. Easiest way is to look underneath the car. Where the exhaust pipe comes down from the back of the engine, if you have a particle filter you'll see two boxes bolted together and jointed into the exhaust system. The first box is the particle filter and the second is the cat.
  19. 1.6 Eh! Keep well up todate with your oil changes and it's advisable to change well before the recomended interval. The 1.6 has a reputation for wrecking turbos.
  20. Congratulations and welcome to the forum. What's your car? 2 ltr or 2.2
  21. Mine are switched off at the moment. A few weeks ago, as soon as I selected first gear to drive away, I got a beep and a message telling me the system was faulty.
  22. Yes - my C5 does about 30 minutes of radio or CD before switching off. Also the engine needs to run for quite a while before I get another session. I seem to recall reading on this or another forum that the time could be altered by Lexia.
  23. Have you checked the voltage of the battery? Should give a reading of at least 12.5 Then check the leads on the battery terminals.
  24. Yes! Mery Christmas to one and all.
  25. If I fit my spare wheel - which is alloy and has a transmitter in it, the system gives me the same message after about a mile. I take it that the ECU just doesn't recognise it.
