Which Engine 1.6, 2.0 Or 2.2?
Johndouglas replied to madassmax's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
The whole range has similar pulleys. Some go sooner than others it seems. -
I wouldn't mix another brand of anti-freeze with what's already in the system. They might not be compatible. I have Halfords five year antifreeze in my C5 but I took the opportunity to flush and change the original coolant when the water pump was being changed.

If you Google "Mobile Aircon " for your area, you may find a local specialist who will regas your system. Also he'll pressure test the system to see if there's any leakage.

C5 Under Tray And Wheel Arch Liner

Good idea - and quick to remove. I've used them to secure some of the under-bonnet covers on the C5 and Xsara -
C5 2004 Diesel Diagnostic Handheld U480 Memoscan Problems
Johndouglas replied to les-cumbria's topic in C5 - Technical
I've got an Autel Maxiscan and it works OK on my C5. Nowhere near as good as a Chinese Lexia but it shows fault codes and also quite a bit of live data. Maybe your machine is faulty. -
Great to hear that you're enjoying your C5. Yes - with the seats down, the load area is huge. And I still manage to fill it when I go away. Best of all - even with the caravan put on the back, the car rises to a level stance.

As you stand in front of the car with the bonnet open, the suspension pump and the LDS tank is on the left hand side - UK driver's side. To get to it you'll need to remove one torx screw and some plastic clips in the black cover. And Yes - the power steering is looked after by the same fluid. If you are new to C5's take note that they use LDS - not LHM as in previous hydro pneumatic Citroens. The two won't mix and LHM in a C5 will give you grief.

Hello and welcome to the forum. When you say "but only go back up after a struggle", how do you mean. That they only go up in small stages on the switch, or you have to take hold of them and pull them up. Tell us more? Meanwhile, have a look at post 3 in http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20461-boot-lock-not-locking/ It might just be a solution for your trouble.

Hi Lloyd. Steve - Coastline suggested disconnecting the battery. If you are new to Citroens it's worth knowing that some electrical niggles can be sorted by resetting the BSI - disconnecting the battery. It doesn't always work but it's the cheapest thing to try first. But it's important that it's done correctly. Here's how:- Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items. When you've tried it, come back and tell how it is.

C5 Under Tray And Wheel Arch Liner
Johndouglas replied to les-cumbria's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Yes Les, it is a big piece and it covers the area from the front of the car right back to the floor pan, and from side to side attaching to the wheel arch liners. I would say that your wheel arch liners are torn because they have been flapping about, not being held in place by the undertray. I let the same thing happen to my Xantia's liners when I found it too cold to spend more time refitting the undertray after a winter oil change. A piece of ally sheet and some pop-rivets did a good repair. Be careful buying another one. Mk1's and facelift models are different. They don't usually come adrift - only if they haven't been secured correctly in the first place. Of course they can sometimes get hit and pulled. It happened with my daughter's Xsara when a section was smashed from the centre. Again alli sheet and pop rivets did a repair. -
That's right! Particle filters weren't fitted to nearly all 2litre HDIs till the facelift in 2004. It was only the 2.2 models that had them in 2002. The recommended oil for the diesel C5s is a multigrade 5W/40 to B3 or CF grade.

Here's my (long winded) experiences of trying to get another key for my C5. In the first year of having the car, I had my second plip stolen when my caravan was broken into in Spain. That gave me a worrying three months wondering if at some point they would be back for the car. A branch of Mister Minit cut me a new key but he explained that it would just unlock the door (and also trigger the alarm). When I returned home, I bought a used plip on ebay and transferred the key blades. The plip would still just unlock the doors. Some months later my neighbour called a mobile locksmith to her house. When he'd finished I talked to him about my plip. He brought over some equipment to the car and eventually got the plip so that it would start the engine, but the central locking wouldn't work. I decided to settle for the plip as it was. And Yes - I can see that they would want the car there.

C5 Exhaust Heat Shield - Do I Need It?
Johndouglas replied to citrophile's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
In theory at least, I suppose the heat shield protects the boot area and the spare wheel well from overheating. But looking at the underside, it would seem that no real harm could be done by not having it there. Having said that, manufacturers don't usually go to unnecessary expense needlessly. On balance, I would try to fix it. If the original fixings have corroded, it shouldn't be too difficult to refix with blocks of rubber and Epoxy paste. -
Opening the bleed valve is recommended before pushing the pistons back into the callipers so that crap is not forced back into the ABS pump. If the car has passed the MOT roller brake test, there can't be much wrong with them.

C5 Face Lift Mk Confusion
Johndouglas replied to les-cumbria's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Certainly the front grill and also the headlights are all Mk 1. Looking at Citroenservice.com ML6 boxes were fitted to late Mk1s. I would think you are safe going for the 2001-2004 towbar. The actual change over date from Mk1 to Mk2 was in October of 2004, although some old stock Mk1 were probably registered later in the year -

Starter Motor Fault - When Hot.
Johndouglas replied to Willy Eckerslyke's topic in Berlingo - Technical
One of the rules of physics is that resistivity increases with increasing temperature. If you have satisfied yourself that all the connections are solid - including the earth straps from battery to ground, the next item to suspect is the solenoid. You can check it by carefully connecting directly from the starter to the battery with a jump lead. -
Is there much difference - apart from the badge, between a 508 and a C5VTR. They both have steel springs.

I used to have a Pleiades tool when I had a BX and Xantia, but sold it on when I got a C5. Meanwhile, this may be of interest:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-sphere-removal-tool-/111120820464?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19df5128f0 -
