  1. Last week I needed to look at kfk's write up on replacing front pads on the C5. He mentions the need for a tool to wind back the caliper pistons. Previously on Xantias and BXs a piece of square steel could be used, but because of the piston face on the C5, the flat steel won't fit. However I made up this:- http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/sides010.jpg The two prongs fit into the piston end and using a screwdriver through the loop, the loop end can be leaned on, pushing the piston back. It's easier if the bleed valve is opened first. Also a chalk mark on the caliper edge helps for relocating the nib on the rear of the pad.
  2. If you look down the front of the engine (the side really, between the engine and the inner wing) where the belts are, the crankshaft pulley is the one right at the bottom. Unfortunately you won't see much from the top. You'll need to take off the wheel and remove the panel on the wing liner. It'll be straight in front of you. This is what you'll see. The belt is removed. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i53/Johndug/sides009.jpg
  3. Same with many of us. T'would be nice if somebody would tell us what was wrong.
  4. You've got it in one Dave. I mentioned it on another forum and a guy pointed me towards this:- http://www.ledtronics.com/TechNotes/FaqsDetail.aspx?id=9
  5. At the end of last week one of our daughters with grandson got stranded in Spain. She managed to get a 16 hour coach ride up into the south of France. I decided to ferry over the channel and drive to Toulouse to collect them. I drove down on Sunday and back on Monday. A total of 1420 miles. I didn't hang about on the drive but still managed 47 mpg overall. Just the previous day, I'd been putting new discs and pads on the front and the worry was they wouldn't bed in before next weeks MOT. No worries on that score now!
  6. It is - but it has always been slow to turn on as evening approaches and slow to turn off after dawn. But OK when going through tunnels.
  7. Just a year ago I renewed the sidelight bulbs on my C5. Already one of them has blown again. Faced with another mornings work removing the front bumper and light units, I decided to fit LED 433C's. These ones - a bit pricy but hopefully they will last a long time. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1 Last night after it got dark, I went out to try them. They look good, but after I switched off, they continued glowing. Not at full brightness but enough to worry me about what it would do to the battery. I left them glowing but looked ten minutes later and all was dark. Why should they do that?
  8. That's the easy part. They are all grouped together in one connector which pulls apart before finally putting the bumper to one side. But remove the washer covers first of all, otherwise they'll break if you do the bumper first.
  9. But it will take a while before it's up to speed. Meanwhile I've got the C5 to get ready for MOT next Monday. So far I've done new discs and pads on the front and today it's off with the bumper to replace the sidelights.
  10. Who ever it was that put the quid in the meter - thank you. It's great to see the forum back again.
  11. A search of 2 to 3 years back will bring up a story about a girl who needed Controle Technic on a RHD C5 with HID lights. Apparently they wouldn't pass it without changing the lights.
  12. Hi Big Lad. Can't help but notice you're living in France. Are you looking for a French C5 or a BritishFrench? C5. I believe Citroen cars are more expensive in France than the equivalent car would be in UK. If you buy British, are you planning to change the headlights?
  13. Don't know whether this will help. Our Xsara sometimes beeped, at the same time the stop light came on and the temperature gauge went high then low. I changed the sensor in the right hand end of the head and the fault ws cured. Cost was less than a tenner.
  14. No I haven't. The car was 6months old when I got it - but why would anyone want the system deactivated? I've often been puzzled by the fact that when I tow my caravan, I increase the pressure in the rear tyres. When I lower the pressure I would expect something to show on the dash panel. It never has!
  15. How can you check whether or not a wheel sensor is working - other than letting some air out of the tyre? How can you tell whether a tyre fitter has damaged a sensor? A few days ago I found my front tyre well down with no warning on the dash panel. The leak was obvious because a 1" Torx bolt was embedded through the tread. I've currently got the car in Spain so I took it to a small tyre depot in Malaga. They removed the tyre, vulcanized a patch to the inside of it, refitted it to the alloy and rebalanced the wheel - all for 10Euros.
  16. Can't see any reason why the front seats on an estate should be any difference to those in a saloon, but the rears are going to be quite different.
