  1. It's impossible to remove the sump plug without having the front wheels on ramps. Also don't attempt to take out just a little oil through the drain hole - you'll loose the lot.
  2. Could be the matrix but maybe also a leaking front window.
  3. Why do you want to save a few pounds on buying 'real' diesel then have to lash out hundreds on new injection equipment. That's the risk!
  4. Mine is a 2005 model and it has a reverse sensor which can be turned off. Usually you can see where the sensors are in the bumpers. There will be four circles along the length.
  5. But it does cut out after a couple of minutes - at least mine does - until the next stop.
  6. You can always pull the passenger seat belt over and stick it in the drivers belt buckle receiver.
  7. I don't think you can disable it - but - there's a pressure sensor of some sort within the seat that detects as soon as bum touches seat. I agree! it's a bloody nuisance.
  8. Just beats me why they have to use plastic. What's wrong with a strip of steel like they've used in thepast?
  9. Since yours is a 1999 model, it's likely that its engine is pre HDI. It certainly has a timing belt fitted and in 1999 the recommended mileage for change was 80000 or 54000 for arduous conditions.
  10. There's a switch on the dash board, above the ash tray.
  11. Haynes and Peter Russek don't do one and it looks as they don't intend to. Haynes would rather publish such titles as "How to bring up a teenager". I have the French publication for the C5 by Revue Technique. It's an excellent book with good photos and diagrams. Only trouble is with the words!!
  12. You´ll find the oil and air filter straightforward, but there are two types of fuel filter.
  13. I think the immobilizer is attched to the injection pump.
  14. What engine are you talking about?
  15. I recently got a Tomtom 1 Europe and I've been playing around with it all week. It works fine on the inside of my C5 windscreen. The only problem so far is that as I drive down my road it tells me to turn left, and when I ignore it it tells me again 1/4 mile later. Both turns are only 4 feet wide with "cycling prohibited" notices on them.
  16. Check the level of your coolant.
  17. Any message on the dashboard. Modern Citroens ding for all sorts of things now. Even if the handbrake comes on slightly whilst the car is moving.
  18. Have you checked that diesel is getting to the injectors? How does the primer bulb feel?
  19. The rear arm bearings are within the arm where it swings on the chassis. Each swinging arm consists of a spacer about three inches long with a bearing each side of the spacer and a seal on the outer edge of each bearing. A long bolt goes through each arm and through the chassis. A repair kit consists of two bearings and a new spacer. Beware that the estate version requires larger bearings and AFAIK they don't do a kit.
  20. Why do you want to take the bumper off? I fitted a Witter bar to mine with 12N & S sockets all without removing the bumper.
  21. Any good quality products will do. If your engine is diesel you need a multigrade with a viscosity of 15/40 marked API CF/CD. For the cooling system an ethylene-glycol based antifreeze - but it's important that only one type should be used. Don't mix various brands. The brakes need a fluid marked DOT 4.
  22. That's been a nagging worry for a couple of years - so I emailed Citroen UK. Here's their reply which I'll print out and carry with me:- Thank you for your e-mail dated 11 September 2007. I can confirm that there is no legal requirement to mask right-hand drive headlamps for use on the continent. This is due to the Z pattern beam that is created by the xenon headlights, fitted as standard on the Citroën C5 Exclusive models, rather than a standard flat beam on conventional headlights. The only stipulation is that the headlamps do not dazzle oncoming drivers and this applies equally to driving here in the UK as to abroad. In addition, the C5 has Hydractive self-levelling suspension and, therefore, there is not the risk of dazzling usually associated with a heavily laden vehicle. Drivers should have the headlamp adjustment checked before travelling. If still concerned, they could at this time have the height of the headlamp beam set to a lower position. This would reduce the possibility of dazzling even further. It must not be forgotten that any such adjustment would impair the visibility provided by the headlamps at night. Just as with masked headlamps, modifying the headlamp adjustment will reduce the effectiveness and, therefore, driving speeds must always be adapted to take this into account.
  23. I got my last two purchases from:- HTTP://WWW.TYRETRADERS.COM/ You buy online but get them fitted locally with a fully fitted price quote.
  24. If a sphere is leaking, it can only leak from around the seal on the flange - and that you should be able to see.
  25. It's a nuisance of a job to remove the undertray before changing oil. The C5's is the worst one I've come across. With our Xsara, all that's necessary is to drop the front edge and prop the drain dish on the undertray. With my previous Xantia, the undertray had a convenient trapdoor just beneath the drain plug, so the tray didn't have to come off. As to whether you can leave it off - if you do you'll hear more engine noise; air flow won't be as smooth and the edges of the inner wings will flap about as you drive, probably sustaining damage. I've tried it!!!
