in the good old days vehicles lacked driveability. They would stall if in the wrong gear or judder on acceleration if in too high a gear. lets just say that the engine is in over run condition, slowing for a roundabout and your in second gear as you approach the roundabout......the engine rpm at this stage may drop below the threshold at which the 'anti stall' wants to kick in. However, regardless of the fact your happy driving in 2nd gear at 800rpm the engine management system will try to stop the engine stalling. In doing this it electronically increases the engine speed thus improving driveability. The Cure: - take notice of what gear your in and change down into 1st.....it will still do it but not as noticably......its normal. Having said its normal, i can demonstrate the customers fault but otherwise i never experience it myself, so driving style also plays a part i would suggest.

C3 Aftermarket Headunit Replacement
kfk replied to MartinB's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
You may find that the switched +ve and constant +ve feeds need to be reversed dependent on the set your fitting. Also it isnt unussual for the central locking to play up after fitting an after market set. This is due to the 'network wiring' of all the computers. The radio is on the network and once removed can upset the stabillity, additionally if a new radio is plugged into the network wires it can cause short circuit of the network. I would advise haveing the radio installed proffesionally if your worried about damaging anything......incidently i wouldnt ask halfords to fit it. -
Incidently, came into work today and another garage has rung asking for advice. His problem.....He's got a C8 HDI with fuel additive problems.........he's got a snap on scanner but doesnt know anything about the system......he wants me to impart my knowledge for nothing.....now i'm pretty easy going and i'll help most, but I dont have the time to solve another Garages problems, i've enough of my own. Anyhow, I politely gave him Citroens Technical line Number @ £1.00 a minute and he swore at me. I dont think people realise but when i ring Citroen we have to pay £22.50 regardless of length of call. By chance his name was Fred, wonder if he's the original 'Fred in a Shed' or an imposter?

True.........but if you have warranty defects you will have to book them in with your dealer on another day instead of possibly getting them done along with the service. Additionally if your vehicle is subject to any service updates they wont be carried out either. I Wont Knock other garages because there are many good ones out there. However, i can't do a 'proper service on a modern Ford, Vauxhall, BMW's......or even Peugeot.......because we dont have the correct service data and diagnostic equipment the main agent has.......so how can they service a Citroen properly? Now i agree the 'nuts & bolts' are easy enough to do, but some of these cars have got in excess of 25 computers......are they going to get check, i very much doubt it. As i've said in other posts, its amazing the number of garages that ring us for technical advice for the simplest of repairs........and then of course the common one...'can you tell me the torque wrench settings for the Headbolts on......' - There Havin a Laugh.....join the library borrow a book!

....... are we talking about stuey's dents car here or the C4

The Service life of early particle filter systems is 50,000 miles. As i said in the previous post it isnt the soot/carbon that blocks the particle filter. The reason it becomes blocked is due to the eloys fluid which the system cannot burn. So......next question...... if i dont use eloys fluid will it block?.......yes it will with soot/carbon and it will block quicker. Its a bit off a chicken and egg situation.....you dont want it blocked with carbon so you use the eloys as a catalyst to assist the burning process which in due course will block the sytem itself.

The Mk2 has a metal one........yup, it cracks around the gear numbers and causes you to have to wear a plaster on your hand. Yes it will fit.

a comment i passed elsewhere In addition you have to ask yourself, what does any filter do? Well as far as i'm concerned its device that removes something from whatever passes through it. This will mean that in due course it is going to block. Now in this instance it doesnt block with carbon particles. This is because they are being burned of during the regeneration process. It becomes blocked over time with the eloys fluid which unfortunately cannot be burnt of in the process. Hence Eloys fluid and filter require replacement at the same time. The changes in the type of eloys fluid and the quantity used have reduced. This in turn has extended the service interval. Additionally the computers that deliver the eloys are also different as is the injector that supplys it to the tank. So next question: Can i use the later type oil - no you cant due to the calibration issues of the eloys computer and injector. So.......should you decide to just have the Eloys topped up you will pay out to have 5 litres of fluid and the labour to initialise the computer. Then shortly after you will have messages stating Filter Blocked. You can ignore this if you like, but the problem will become worse untill your limited to 1,500rpm......this fault ussually occurs trying to overtake something going uphill. Restarting the vehicle wont always clear the fault and ussually involves awaiting a recovery truck. At this stage you will be needing the particle filter replaced and the Fluid topped up again (it will run out early otherwise). Some people might be lucky and get away with a top up......but is that doing the job properly and maintaining reliability/performance/fuel economy?
-
Just had an MOT?......did you get it serviced aswell? The display will flash the spanned when the service is due eiter on age or mileage, any one servicing the vehicle should have reset it for you.

The reason the particle filter isnt cleaned is because it isnt cleanable......at least not in the dealers. The parts fitted are exchange units and your old unit is returned to Citroen for cleaning. As an additional note, your dealer is unlikely to hold a particle filter in stock due to Citroen imposing a surcharge of £500 per unit and there being so many different types. So, in the event your dealer just tops up the fluid all they are doing is delaying the day you have to have the particle fluid replaced.....when a tankfull of fluid is used it is sufficient to block the filter....thats why both are done at the same time. Should you choose to waste your time and have only the fluid topped up, you will have the aggravation of lack of power and engine management lights coming on together with other warning messages. Of course, and this i my experience, the customer will tell us what they want done, regardless of the advice we give.......and then complain later that we were the ones who didnt do it properly! With regard to the computer being replaced, i only know of one that has failed and that wasnt at particle filter replacement time.......it had done over 200,000 miles though.

And why shouldnt we have a drink.......it only happens once a year. You've got plenty of other days to break your door handle, you just picked the wrong one :P

The 'A' pillar obscures your vision when your looking forward left and right. The 'B' pillar obscures your vision when looking over your right shoulder! Other than that.....the winscreen is fitted to the 'A' pillars.

Glad to have helped out Mike and will extend your thanks to all those involved down here.....including the car cleaner :o Have a good Christmas and Safe New Year

Nope. The RP number will be found on the sticker with your tyre pressures on the door hinge pillar.

Not a common problem, sold loads of C3's cant remember any having this fault. Would advise cheapest way round it is to see if you have Glass cover on your insurance, you might get away with just paying the excess and it wont affect you NCB.

How can you say you have cured a fault if you cant fault it? About 5 years back we had a customer bring a Picasso in with intermittent loss of brakes. We did all the usual checks but couldnt replicate the fault. Customer basically told us that they wern't prepared to accept the car back and couldnt accept were unable to get the fault to occur whilst we were driving it. It subsequently transpired that the vehicle had been to another dealer locally with this fault and the customer was unhappy that they also couldnt find fault so bought it to us. Decision was made, on the basis that it was 'NFF' that I would drive the vehicle round for a week.....in other words if i'm going to say unable to fault I will show i'm prepared to drive it with confidence......after all if i wont why should the customer? A week passed, still no fault present, still unable to convince the customer its ok.......so what to do? Well in my infinite wisdom i decided to order a master cylinder, all discussions pointed to this being a possible cause and i didnt really relish being sued by the customer in the event something should happen. So we hung onto the car and parked it in the back carpark out of the way whilst we awaited delivery of the part which had now gone backorder. Obviously you will realise from this we still hadn't recreated the fault and now the car was sitting around doing nothing. One night still bugged by not having reproduced the fault i now had a part on order for, i made a decision to suprise the car, i was going to move it and let it do my journey home that night.....and off i went.....as expected without a problem. Following morning journey into work, just turning into our entrance and i noticed a man with a video camera.....thought it was odd. Drove into the car park and made a few notes on the jobcard when i heard a tap on the side window. Irritated because it was 15 minutes before we opened i wound the glass down and aknowledged this disturbance of my time to be greeted with "what do you think your doing?"....i can still remember thinking to myself what am i doing?....what does he mean what am i doing?......i answered... ermmm....filling in some paperwork......i'll be with you in a moment. He asked the question again, this time he gave me a clue.........'Thats My Car, What are you doing'? Taken a back by his tone and the question i decided that maybe now was the time to get out of the car, if only so he could see that i was bigger than him. It transpired that i had been seen driving his car the previous evening by his wife coming in the opposite direction, i wasnt doing anything wrong, except the last message the servce manager left with them before he went on holiday was that there car wasnt being used. The paperwork that susequently followed with threats of what he was going to do with the video footage, the damage he said we had caused on his car (when his wife had signed to say she had seen it with us) The accusations over the mileage we supposedly drove his car for and the fact i was driving his car without a seat cover (i was in a suit for FS).......his car was parked untill the part arrived some 3 weeks later, i might add he had been in a courtesy car all this time supplied by us! Upon completion they refused to collect it from us and wanted it delivered, which we did. "so did we cure the problem?".......I dont know, I stopped driving it....After all his argument for me was that his brakes were dangerous and he didnt want his wife and kids in the car when they fail!.......It was OK for me though! I might add to anyone reading this, sometimes a vehicle has to be used to recreate a fault. Some might think its a joyous job roadtesting all these wonderfull cars. My Neighbours when they see me regularly ask: "So whats up with this one then?"

Now that is very interesting... Ages ago I found a piece of rubber, about 1'' or so long with a small hole up the middle (not all the way through). I found it on the floor mat in the drivers footwell and I didnt know where it came from. It looks very much like those plastic supports that screw into the back of car radios. Anyway, I had it for ages and chucked it away. Now, my car is going in tomorrow for the clutch to be investigated. Could this be related??? Maybe to do with the clutch mechanism.......only thing i think it might be is part of the assister spring mechanism.......but then if you have/had one bit there should have been at least 2 other pieces.....one of which was a spring.

Just picked my new VTR+ today, didn't ask for a discount..of any sort, nor was I offered one....fair enough.. I WILL be removing the dealer sticker from rear window, and if it happens to damage the heating element, guess what, I will be claiming for a new rear window FOC as I wasn't asked if I wanted the 'go faster' sticker there in the first place! It's not because I don't want to advertise, I don't like the look of a bloody great sticker in my rear window... You can hardy assimilate the Manufactures Badges with Dealer stickers..most dealerships these days have no allegiance to a particular manufacturer anyway...they just sell cars....plain and simple. Sometimes the punter doesn't have a choice where to go buy the Car of their choice, but when they choose a particular make, they would surely also expect to have that manufacturers badge on it..... I do believe you have become a bit of a cynic Sir.... ;) Moi? :o ......Cynical? :( ......Never! ;)

is it the lights flashing and beeping on the key pad? If so lock the car up and leave it half hour. if its the external lights flashing and the alarm going off it more likely a flat battery.
-
The ones who put tape over the number plates and remove he sticker from the rear window are usually the first to ask for discount.....of course this is after screwing the dealer down on the car price in the first place. Now of course i can understand that you dont wish to advertise.......so i assume you will be taking the chevrons of the front grill & tailgate.....not to mention scrubbing michelin off on the kerbstones. Incidently, dont pull it it will no doubt remove the heated rear window element. Worth trying a bit of meths to soften the glue or a hair drier.

Filling it up isnt the problem. The problem is that having used all its additive the next messages you will be seeing after topping it up are that the particle filter is blocked. Get ready to spend £350 - £400 including the top up. Filling the additive is the easy bit, but it wont turn the message off on the display. Thats where your local dealer comes in. Additive costs around £60. Make sure you ge tthe right stuffl there are 2 types and dont mix. Labour to configure the computers after top up would be around £45 - £65 depending in which part of the country you live.

Whys that KFK? Would have thought they would have been the same for all models of C4? Just curious Different versions of the software
-
Would think they are planning on a software update. The main computer controls the service interval counter......on some models (not all) there have been problems and this may be the answer to your problem. Looks like your dealer is going about it the right way.
