  1. Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Somerfield, Total, Texaco, Sainsburys........but only 2 stuck there heads up and admitted it in the press.
  2. I dont care whether a car has bald tyres or not......i do wonder that customers have a perception that they dont need to replace a tyre until its worn to 1.6mm. Your tyres worn to 2.0mm.......so how long will it last?.......who cares, its nearly worn out, if i tell you when its 1.6mm you point out it was ok last week!
  3. We always offer Michelins to customers as first choice, and a quality alternative if the customer wants something more budget. I recon 50% of our customers choose to buy tyres else where with the remainder split between budget and OE tyres. With regard to those customers who purchase elsewhere, they are all offered the chance to see if i can beat the price they have been quoted on a like for like basis......in some instances the price difference is a matter of a few pounds but they will still choose to take a car elsewhere to have tyres fitted. Someone else passed comment about being charged for Wheel Balance......i charge for balancing wheels where we dont supply the tyres......if the person who has sold the tyres isn't making enough money to buy the correct tools to do the job why should i subsidise them?......yes customers get the hump over it, but tell me this, why should i do it for nothing? I am quite happy to say that all my Michelin prices are comparable with quickfit and where possible they are cheaper. Many will say that Quickfit arnt the cheapest and i would agree with that, but as a benchmark on the high street thats the price you should be expecting to pay, if your getting your tyres cheaper good luck to you........if it costs you to get your wheels balanced.....well thats the risk. And finally........ one of the most common reasons for customers declining tyres...... they dont want to pay the price because its only the wifes car!
  4. Which part of the country do you live in?, have you filled up in kent since the middle of February?.....if so it could be that the Oxygen sensor has failed.......ok so thats the common thing down here in kent at the moment. Thing is the light can come on for many reasons and really needs to get the computer codes read to establish a diagnosis.
  5. Assuming its wear and tear it should be covered......will need to be inspected and a prior approval sought from cirtoen uk first though.
  6. only problems you seem to get with the V6 are ignition coils.
  7. Have you checked the front crank pulley?
  8. Marangoni?
  9. Have a looks at this forum and see how a lot of people got separated from their money. You can see it unroll from the initial post to the recriminations. It would appear that he has "done" other car forums ... beware and don't let it happen to you. http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=74748
  10. Recently had a modutop roof replaced for a customer due to water leaks. It isnt something they let the dealers do as it has to be cut out of the car and rebonded back into place. Ours had to go to Gefco at Sheerness for repair......send me a PM which dealer you using?
  11. I suggest you blame messrs, Bosch & Siemens for this.......they dont provide equipment to test the computor, only equipment to tell you its faulty. Even if you do look inside most of them are sealed with resin so you wouldnt see the circuit board. Incidently, last time i sent an ECU to be repaired i told the repairer exactly what was wrong and and the pins affected.......ecu was returned, still didnt work, rechecked car thinking we must hav got it wrong and subsequently returned the ECU for re checking. Phone call from the Repairer......we cant test that part of the computer because its part of the immobilizet circuit! The repairer concerned was Delphi, previously known as Lucas!
  12. Some thing tells me that i've had problems with one of these before......i seem to remember it looks like its got two plastic hinges that are screwed on.......but once you have it removed you realize that it was bonded in place and the plastic 'hinges' are merely supports......i may be wrong, but i'm guessing that this is what your up against......send me your email i'll send you a picture of the parts page diagram.
  13. Cars dont last forever: - if you use them they wear out - it you dont use them they rust away Personally, i dont consider it unreasonable that a vehicle is going to have items that require replacement, especially when it has covered reasonable mileage. In this day and age everyone expects things to last forever, it begs the question as to how long you do expect it to operate without fault? With regard to the Spring failures these were subject to recall, and whilst the experience is unnerving to say the least, the manufacturer has accepted responsibilty and will pay for replacement. In my opinion...and your entitled to yours, 3 years is an adequate amount of time to prove if a part is subject to a manufacturing defect. The fact that the manufacturer has offered to contribute towards the repairs should be considered positively, i know of customers that have problems and are offered nothing. Seems to me that during your 60 odd posts you have spent time encouraging people to speak to trading standards and take other such action to right the wrongs of the world.......seems its your turn if you intend to get anywhere......good luck!
  14. Have had a proble with one where it appeared the motor had given up, but the wiring had fatigued next to the left tailgate hinge.......now that looks like it will become a problem.
  15. If you are changing just the door locks, no you wont need it to be reprogrammed If your changing the ignition lock barrel then yes you will need it programmed: - a new key will have a different transponder chip in it and the vehicle will not recognise it till programmed
  16. dealer programable only and you will need the confidential code for the vehicle Rough cost of coding if you have the code £35

  20. do you mean just stopped as in......was driving it and it just stopped, or i drove it parked it and now it wont start?
  21. If you do end up coming to us and its a straightforward 20k with no problems could be done while you wait....or we have loan cars available for a small fee.
  22. It's possible, but i doubt it, that barrets/duttons prices include the 2 year brake fluid change.....the price you have been quoted by hidsons doesnt include the brake fluid change.....which as your car isnt due for it makes it a better price. Obviously its all dependent on where you are having to travel from. If your considering the Hidsons option, send me PM

    Windscreen

Recently had to organise a replacement screen at work when one of the technicians managed to damage it. Thinking it would be cheaper to get the glass fitted through Autoglass, we gave them a call to get it sorted, unfortunately for us we got a telephone operator that was on 'training', i lost track of the number of times i double checked the car for light sensors, tint and solar glass......but regarless of the information it was seemingly impossible for them to ascertain what was required. Interestingly they could tell me how much it was going to be (about £800) and they could tell me i would get an extra 10% off if i belonged to the AA. Seemed to me that this was more than i expected and the more i spoke to the autoglass operator the more irritated i became.....somuch so that i was looking to see how much the Citroen Price was......realising the glass was only £280 and icould get it tomorrow i made a decision it would be easier for us to order the glass and get our local glass fitter to install it for a further £50. Makes you wonder how much your insurance companies are paying for glass from these companies, it wouldnt be so bad if they could fit windows properly! As a final point, make sure when they have fitted the glass your mirror is nice and secure and if it has photochromic facility see if that works......also the exterior side trims have a habit of not being fitted correctly.
  24. Dutton forshaw is Maidstone.....Hidsons are Gillingham! What service and spec vehicle?
  25. first off.....think we need some more information: - it wont turn over......so is the battery fully charged?.....do you have another vehicle you might be able to connect jump leads to and see if it helps? - assuming its fully charged, are the battery leads fitted tightly?.....is the earth lead bolted to the gearbox? - does the starter motor make a heavy clunk when you operate the ignition key to cranking ? - if you put a spanner on the crankshaft pulley nut, or put it in 5th and push the car does the crankshaft pulley rotate? has it been running in the last 24 hours and just decided to stop?
