As Tina Turner Once Said...steamy Windows, Zero Visibility

Positive as that makes things worse -
Be intersting to see how much the 5 year/60,000(IIRC?) one will cost which includes Cam Belt change  Did they yank off (oo er) the pollen filter housing like they did on mine and break every single clip?...check!

As Tina Turner Once Said...steamy Windows, Zero Visibility

I'm a bit hesitant to start sticking things on the windscreen as one of my real pet hats is smears and seeing things that shouldnt be there. And if there is one job I hate and that is cleaning the front window! By leaving it on Auto the only bit of misting I tend to get is on cold mornings sometimes get it on the drivers window. I dont think the misting has anything to do with how air tight the car is. In the past I have owned a number of Minis and any Mini owner will tell you you dont go anywhere without something to wipe the windows as they steam up very easily. Most of the time you have to have at least one window open to exchange the air inside. Its a shame more car manufacturers dont put quick clear windscreens in their cars as I think it was one of the best features the Focus had. It was always fun to leave the house watching everyone scraping ice off the cars, ping it on and within a minute its completly clear and off you drive whilst the others carry on scraping. -
The baseball caps are obviously worn to keep the intensly strong moonlight from outside! :D :D

Yes thats what I was using, the windscreen "de-blast" button and just sat and watched it demist a small area about the size of a dinner plate in line with the speedo, then the rest just took forever! -
Got in the car late last night and spent 15mins (literally) waiting for my windscreen and side windows to demist, was so painfully boring to watch  And even after 15mins (A/C on) it was just enough to see through to get moving with the edges of the window still steamed up. Do any of you suffer the same or is it just me? It just seems to take a ridiculously long time to demist.... My trouble is that the only the thing I miss from my Focus is the heated front windscreen which was wicked, and wish the C4 had it. So am I being impatient? I also hate those Chamois pad things as they always get manky and pongee and besides which leave annoying smears over the windscreen. PS - Yes I know it was Valentines eve and No, the steamy windows were not created by a rigorous exercise regime inside the car... PPS - I would like to also note that even though I quoted Tina Turner, I don’t actually like ANY of her music, I Goggled her for the above quote...

Looks like Wozza has already made a start on you then Stuey :D  Yes looks like we are indeed being watched for us spamming! :D

Perhaps to say that when they do fail and go limp that it is dangerous to drive? I guess they would tell you not to drive it in the dark then!

Which you can be your bottom dollar will be on a lane in the dark raining..... :( Do you have a camera phone? When mine played up the service light stayed on all the time and the message displayed on the screen upon pressing the "check" button so this should give you a chance to at least take a picture of it and taking it with you to the garage. I dont know if they will laugh at you for doing this but how else do you prove it? I often wonder if they think you are making these things up. Yet by quoting "exactly" what is displayed kinda demonstrates that you arnt! "Computer says no" so that obviously means no fault.

Please contribute where ever dont feel you have to be restricted to your own topics or where you are unsure about a remedy, for example...piping up and saying things like "what about..." "i had this..." everyone can contribute and develop discussions on these points... We all go off topic but so what! We got Captiain Wozza to bring us back in line. :D

Yes but remember Ciaran has sketched them and then coloured them in. I at least hope he has kept within the lines. :D

I'm confused, so have they said its condensate off the condensor or if there is a leak in the AC system? If its condesate then its just water. I've noticed this on many cars often in the summer at petrol stations with streams of water coming out of the underside of the car. I'm confused as Ciaran mentioned an oily glint on the liquid...if its an AC leak the gas would vaporise to atmosphere and the leak could be a lubricant/conditioner added to keep seals sealed and sweet. Perhaps this is what can be seen? Or is it a leak somewhere else? I'm still thinking Clutch, especially after he has posted problems with it. I wouldnt recommend rubbing anything AC related between you fingers as anything thats been in contact with refrigerants are not the friendliest gases to be hanging about with. Engine Coolent has that horrible sweet smell and can often be smelt when the car is runnign. Its all easy to speculate...I think we need some pics! And not of those naked ladies you've been painting Ciaran!

There is a "Dirty C4" thread and judging by the states that are on there people do infact get their cars grubby. Mine at the moment is disgusting. The mirrors I would imagine are heated by an element built into the glass mouting surround and then "pluged in" when fitted to the car. Have them fitted to both this one and previous car but never had "thankfully" the miss fortune to have to replace them.

Well with your bad knee Ed you shouldn't throw anyone... SAVE FERRIS! :D

If its anything like mine it got progressivly worse, starting off with an ocasional blip to everytime they were turned on. Its incredibly difficult driving when you can only see 2foot infront of you in the dark. See if dissabling the directional function works if you get stuck "to get you home". It seems daft that in event of a failure they dont default back to standard setting. Hope it goes ok at "the menders".

Welcome to the forum Chipy! :P Its 2mph out but then the vehicle spedo can be 10% over read 0% under read IIRC....so thats not bad. Also someone in work had a MAJOR beef about how inacurate his Sat Nav was as at calculating speed as he wanted to use it as his cars speedo :D I wouldnt get too worried about it enjoy your new motor!

Hi Chippy Which lights are we talking about the Halogen Standard Bulb ones or the HID ones? I doubt you can do anything with them without a proper beam alignment tool as used in MOT stations, unless you want to hapily drive around at night and wonder why all the vehicles coming the other way are diving into the nearest ditch through blinidness. :D Stick the car up against a wall with your lights on and set your height adjusters whilst watching the beam go up and down. Make sure both lights do this at the same time to check that one light unit isnt stuck. If it is get it to a dealer. If its the HID lamps you got, get it to a dealer and get them to have a look at them. Daft question... :P Have you made sure your lenses are clean as road salt can make a big difference to the lighting performance? Other than that get some of them Super Fangdangled Bright bulbs....

Looks good....but you need a spoiler! :D
-
Yes...they failed in the middle of a nighttime thunderstorm last summer :D I got the "Directional Headlamp System Faulty" message and the headlamp light on the steering wheel flashes. At night all you can see is about 2foot infront of you as the lights point straight down. Have you tried turning off the directinal function as this worked a couple of times for me? The only problem is evertime you turn on the ignition the lights reset themselves downwards and fiddling the settings doesnt always suceed. I took it into the dealer and IIRC took about two/three hours to sort. There was corrosion on the terminals and replaced both sensors. IIRC again, I think they are mouted behind the rear lights.

If you have clutch problems e.g. actuation of the clutch Ciaran, and there is funny stuff dropping on the floor I'd put my last piece of shrapnal down to it being fluid from the clutch..if it has hydraulic components. Some modern clutches have a cable and hydraulic clutch affair....check your master cylinders and see if any fluid is lost over the next day or too. So that would be brakes clutch and steering where applicable. Looking at it today and noting that it is below "Max" is no use as who is to say that it was ever filled up to "Max". Suggest leaving a drip tray or piece of clean wood underneath to determin what exactly the fluid is could be oil....you will also need to get under the car to make sure it doesnt look like the aftermath of the Exxon Val'des as if you have an oil leak the underside will be a mess and dropping oil like no bodies business and will not help you find the problem. If not get it to a garage. If nothing, blame the gardener for being over zelous with the two stroke oil.

No chance of seeing me in the C4 ini the snow either.
-
Good to see the world hasnt stopped in your neck of the woods. :D I waited in for someone to visit this morning, 10mins before due I got a phone call as he was "snowed in". I cant think for a minute think he was "really" snowed in, and probably couldnt be arsed to clear his windscreen or get his wheels slushy. Whilst leaving the house this morning, I would "Highly Commend" the Royal Mail van driver for taking the bend outside our house on fresh snow this morning at some speed but unfortunatly maintained a straight line into the kurb. The sight of fear on the drivers face would have made a better picture than a snowy scene on a snowy day. Excellent foresight demonstrated that in snow, traction can be "a bit limited". By the time I'd got in to work it going, but the world was still at a standstill. P.S - Does your snow "pitch", "settle" or "stick"?

If the car is brand spankers then I would expect it to be a bit erratic in terms of consumption until it gets fully ran in...when ever or what ever that milage might be.

Ah its not that bad just feels like the return spring is slipping on the pedal arm or something. It needs to go in anyway to get some bits sorted out on it just a matter of being able to get time off work...
-
I'm worried now! My pedal has been feeling a little graunchy right on the top 1/5 on complression and release of the pedal. What seemed odd is I moved my seat forward by a notch or two and this seemed to illiminate it. If you push the pedal lightly with the engine off up and down you can hear a slight squeeking noise I'm hoping that all is needed is a bit of grease or lube of somesorts on the return spring?..or do I? Is this the sign of worse things?
