  1. After using the dashcam for a while, would you mind giving a bit of a report since I and probably others are considering getting one ?
  2. Welcome to the forum. You may find that the car battery needs charging. I find that if our C5 is not used for more than about 3 weeks the battery goes flat due to the small use by the alarm and then when unlocking the bsi starts and the suspension height is adjusted which all help to flatten the battery. This also happened on our previous C5. Also starting the car for a short trip such as moving it, will not put back in the battery enough to keep it charged and only makes it worse. The braking system fault message may go once the car is started but it should not prevent it being started. First though, check the battery voltage using a meter or the gauge on the dash to see if it is lower than normal - it should be about 12.5 volts but if less than about 12.3 volts it will not be enough to start the car and needs either a jump start or the battery charging. Once the car is started, if the braking message does not clear let us know.
  3. This may be a problem with the comms 2000 switch unit or its wiring under the steering wheel which includes the wiper and lighting switches. You could try a battery disconnection/reconnection but you may need to replace the switch unit. I have found the following battery procedure does not lead to odd electrical problems, copied from the C3 Common Problems pinned post: 20. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3).
  4. Welcome to the forum. It could be the radius arm bearings and if so you may also get some noise over bumps but I have no idea of the cost of replacement. Are the tyres the same on each side since it is not easy to see from the photos and is there any uneven wear ? Also check the wheels are on properly but I am sure this would be obvious. If you go under the car to have a good look around, make sure you use axle stands since if a height sensor on the anti roll bar is caught, the suspension may quickly drop to only a few inches above the ground. Before jacking up you should also raise the suspension to max height to avoid problems with the suspension.
  5. Has the eolys fluid run out ? Does the fuel filler cap still have the magnets in it (remove it and try a key on them, should be 2 on opposite sides) ?
  6. You could leave the radio on but the volume set to minimum and adjust the traffic alerts volume to suit when one comes on.
  7. Welcome to the forum.
  8. CXMC5, welcome to the forum.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Is your car a petrol or diesel and is the battery in good condition (I would expect the electrician would have checked this) ? Did you try your Citroen dealer before the auto electrician ? There are companies that test and repair ecus rather than having to replace everything and then you would know if it was faulty and I think this would be a better option. BBA reman have often been mentioned in the Car Mechanics magazine as one such company but I have not used them so this is not a recommendation. If you do end up replacing the ecu , then the radio may also need replacing to match the ecu and the fuel injectors may need programming to the ecu. You will be able to use the key blades from your existing keys in the replacement key fobs to save having to change the car locks and ignition lock - just need to push out the small roll pin that holds the blade to the remote fob - or fit the immobiliser chip and electronic circuit board from the replacement fobs in to your existing fobs.
  10. I have read that if the front wheels are not parked facing forward the suspension may go up and down a bit. I have moved the topic in to a subforum since outside of one they do not show after a few days and may be difficult to find.
  11. A 2010 sales brochure quotes 340 Nm at 2000 rpm as being the max torque and max power 120 kW at 3750 rpm.
  12. Welcome to the forum. I suspect you will need to have a diagnostic check to see what is wrong, otherwise you could replace parts until the faulty one is found. You could try a different petrol station in case it is a poor batch of fuel and have a look for any possible air leaks/loose connections on the engine air supply ducting. What parts were replaced in the service - did it include a fuel filter (if the car has one), spark plugs, air filter and a clean of the throttle body and plate ? Does the problem occur at 3000 rpm in any gear ? Is the temperature guage normal, does it happen with a cold engine ?
  13. Welcome to the forum. On the Citroens we have owned, to change the trip computer on the display, the button on the end of the wiper stalk is pushed and to reset it to zero it needs to be held in for a few seconds.
  14. The advice to change gear from the car is not necessarily at the max torque point since our petrol C3 also does it. It may just be when the car thinks it is fast enough to use a higher gear.
  15. Without knowing the full details of what happened in this tragic accident, it is not possible to give anything other than general comments. The cars have airbag systems which detect the direction of an impact, the speed of the car, which seats are occupied and the force of the impact so that any relevant air bags and seat belt tensioners are deployed to help reduce the consequences of an impact. These are in addition to head rests and the strength of the vehicle and deformation to absorb impacts and braking systems. Side impacts can be worse in consequences for internal head injuries than a front or rear impact.
  16. Welcome to the forum. These few things would not cost a garage much to fix and then the car would possibly be worth a lot more, depending on its age. So why would it be sold as a spares or repair ? I would want more info from the garage. The clutch needs a good test to see if it may be worn out and slipping - if not it may be normal. The rear calipers need the pistons turning so they retract to allow new pads to be fitted, so you would soon know if they are seized, as well as obvious things such as bad wear, the wheels binding but it could be somebody has tried to adjust the handbrake so it does not free off enough to allow the auto adjusters in the calipers to work. Try fitting new bulbs to see if they only need replacing before deciding to buy. The SX may be the base model and not include air con so worth a check.
  17. As well as not getting a spare wheel, you also do not get a jack, a tray to keep it and the tools in, the yellow plastic tool to pull off the chrome wheel bolt covers and a wheel bolt wrench - the total cost inc the wheel/tyre will be about £200 from the dealer. If we change our 2011 C4 for another one, I intend to put the foam spray, compressor and expanded plastic wheel well filler back in and keep the spare, etc for the replacement car. On the 1.6 hdi engine, there is a 90 bhp and a 110 (or 115) bhp engine. Fuel economy figures on both seem to be similar but we have had the 110 one and it goes well. On the 2011 on C4 you need to take a bit of time to get used to the poor visibilty - the door mirrors are not good, the headrests are large, the rear windows are tinted and the pillars are wide. The key blade is at 90° to usual so this takes a bit to get used to. Other than that it is a good, comfy car suitable for long motorway trips and we get around 60 mpg or more on motorways, probably nearer 50 elsewhere. On the 1.6 hdi services are 12500 miles or 2 years if sooner but newer ones may be 1 year. The tyres are a common size and decent ones such as Michelins are only about £75 each and ours lasted 41k miles. On the Technical Section there is a Common Problems pinned post to look at, but check the bonnect for paint problems which some have reported.
  18. Welcome to the forum. If you still are trying to sort this, then the best way may be to check the part numbers using your car VIN in the Citroen parts diagrams, either at a dealer or on the service.citroen site if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Depending on what is at fault with the gearbox, it may be cost effective to repair it.
  19. You could try turning the steering from lock to lock a few times to bleed any air out. It helps to park the front wheels on a few magazines to save scrubbing the tyres. If this does not help then whilst the steering is being turned, have a listen for any bearings/pulleys that may need replacing on the aux and timing belts and also the suspension top mount bearings.
  20. Probably due to the increase in fuel efficient diesels the tax income from car tax and fuel has fallen, so this may be an effort to get some of it back and the dpf and egr valves are meant to reduce the pollution problem.
  21. Rather than getting your neighbour to give you a price, try a garage/dealer/bodyshop who would also ensure and guarantee it would be to MOT standards. If the neighbour is not used to car welding of the thin metals involved but instead thicker metals in construction/fabrication, he may not be that good at repairing your car and may put more holes in it and cause distortion. Ideally a mig welder or tig welder should be used. If the sills just need patching it would normally be done by making up pieces from sheet metal rather than a new sill. If you need complete new sills, have you tried a Citroen dealer since the parts diagrams show them ?
  22. The lack of power to the ecu may be because the immobiliser is preventing it. The transponder aerial is a plastic shroud that goes around the ignition switch and the comms 2000 unit is the complete switch unit under the steering wheel which includes the lighting and wiper switches. To get the correct part numbers for your car needs the car VIN (VIS) in the Citroen parts diagrams which you can see as a free service on the service.citroen site after registering as another professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. If the aerial was part no. 6160C0, it would be about £4 from a Citroen dealer but others could be a bit more. Here is an example of one https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=citroen+c8+transponder+aerial+picture&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4DKUK_enGB242GB242&tbm=isch&imgil=76zX0bAtseU4tM%253A%253BoveQc7VbrzMp7M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%25252Fsch%25252Fi.html%25253FLH_BIN%2525253D1%25252526_nkw%2525253Dcitroen%2525252Bc3%2525252Btransponder%25252526_sop%2525253D16&source=iu&usg=__Kk-xRBEM4L0cLFmHkwF9-S9Ui6s%3D&sa=X&ei=sUvtU5CRN8ec0QXShoHgBA&ved=0CCQQ9QEwAA&biw=1209&bih=807#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=Sepi5oDIcIHaRM%253A%3B0MYk0tV9CykrQM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fthumbs3.ebaystatic.com%252Fd%252Fl225%252Fm%252Fm9pNGy6dgLQF9pkjpAVRN4A.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%252Fsch%252Fi.html%253F_fln%253D1%2526_nkw%253Dimmobiliser%252Baerial%3B225%3B169 Here is an example of a comms 2000 unit http://www.peugeotpartsforsale.com/citroen-c8-com-2000-unit-brand-new-unit-part-no-6242c2
  23. qman3428, did you have any bother with the insurance company ?
  24. If you intend to go under the car you must use axle stands or a ramp since if a height sensor is touched the suspension may drop to a very low level of only a few inches above the ground. If you are going to jack the car up it is in the handbook to raise the suspension to max height first (and then use the axle stands).
  25. This is from the Navidrive book which may help: The 3 route options are Fastest or Shortest or Optimum distance/time relationship. So I guess the Navidrive optimum looks at how long it may take and distance and there must be a calculation to come up with a route. The Fastest I take to mean least amount of time and not the highest speed attained and Shortest to mean least distance and not time. I do not know what route dynamics means but on the Navidrive if the traffic information shows an incident on the route it can be modified to allow for it by rotating the control to select the Diversion button on the screen and then pushing the control to validate the change. Stages can also be included if you want to go somewhere on the route but it says you need to go through the stage or delete it to be able to continue beyond the stage.
