  1. If not already done, wetting/rubbing the stickers with a cloth soaked in de-icer can remove the glue and sticker. Other solvents such as acetone (nail polish remover), white spirit (turps) or methylated spirit can help. With the rear window heater, you could try a bit not on an element wire with the solvent and see if it lets the sticker be very easily removed and if so and you decide to try the rest of it, wipe along the element wire rather than across it but do not use a scraper.
  2. Easy ones first, the others will need thinking about. The mpg display may just need to be reset to zero by holding in the button on the end of the wiper stalk. Once the mileage gets to 10000 km (about 6400 miles) it stops working until reset. Check the total trip mileage by pushing the stalk button to get to the relevant screen to confirm this before doing a reset. The driver's window may be covered in the pinned C5 Common problems post. The window switch problem may be a dirty switch internal contact needing a clean or a replacement but also check the wiring where it goes through the door and pillar nicase it is damaged. Air con may be a regass, our Citroen dealer charges £49.99 for this and I needed it on both our C5s when about 7 years old. Have a look in the maintenance/warranty book for the timing belt interval since it should probably have been done by now.
  3. I think this is worth pinning since it is the first report I have seen on towing with a steel sprung new C5. Have you noticed if the fuel economy when not towing is also much better than your previous C5 ?
  4. CitroenUK, welcome to the forum. It is good to have a representative from Citroen on our forum and hopefully you will be able to help members with the problems on their cars.
  5. I think you may be being had about the hub bearings and possibly the other work needed. They are fastened to the drum (unless you have rear discs) and come off with the drum. If they do charge you for new bearings make sure you get the old ones back and from memory they are part of the abs system so may be expensive. The drum should be cleaned out to scrape off the brake dust and I usually use some fine emery paper to remove the glaze that builds up, followed by a wipe with brake cleaner. How did they know it needed new brake shoes and cylinders (unless fluid could be seen on the back of the brake cover) only way to check would be to remove the drums (with the bearing attached - with their idea it needed new bearings then you must have had to leave the car there until the new ones were installed) ? Also the drum retaining nuts and bearing covers have to be renewed since both are damaged when being removed. On the brake shoes, note that one is thinner than the other when new and gives the impression that it has worn down when the drum is removed, even though it has not. So make sure you ask for the old bits - shoes, bearings (they may also want to replace the drums), oil seals, cylinders, hub nuts and hub covers. Personally, I avoid these fast fit type of places and use a garage that you think you can trust but since we have been using Citroens, fortunately this has also been the dealer. We had a 2003 C3 1.4 petrol sx and every 2 years I cleaned out the rear brakes, last done 2013, and in that time I only replaced the brakes shoes by mistake since I thought they were worn due to them having a thinner shoe than the other. Each time though needed the new hub nuts and hub covers.
  6. Welcome to the forum. In your warranty book is there a mileage limit on the paint warranty ? In the book that came with our 2011 C4 it only says 3 years for a private vehicle and no mention of miles.
  7. I am not an expert but if the fuel filter has not been changed recently it may be worth doing and if you buy the fuel from the same place each time, then try somewhere else in case it is dodgy fuel. As a minimum you could drain any water from the fuel filter. I asked about the new air flow meter since I have read that sometimes ones from such as ebay do not always work properly. When coastline taxis is next on the site it will be interesting to see what he thinks since he has a lot of knowledge and experience on diesels.
  8. This is from Haynes for a 2.0 hdi RHR DOHC engine so must be a mark 2 C5 - stage 1 - 4 Nm followed by - stage 2 - angle tighten a further 65°
  9. You have not said which engine your car has but it must be a diesel due to having a dpf. Was the new air flow meter from Citroen ? Can you also confirm that your symptoms are identical to the first post - kangarooing, loss of power, need 5k rpm to set off so it does not stall. Also, does the temperature gauge show normally, probably slowly goes to mid way after running for a few miles - just in case the temperature sensor is faulty and resulting in wrong fuelling. A problem with the egr valve can give clouds of smoke so it is worth checking the actuator hoses to it in case one has a split and also the valve may need cleaning or possibly replacing. Has the fuel filter been changed recently since these can block up and affect performance ? With the car stationary, if you slowly push the accelerator pedal down do the revs increase gradually, just to check the pedal is ok - I had to replace one on a C3 which had worn the electrical bits and it did not rev smoothly between about 1 and 2k rpm. Another thought is a possible turbo problem limiting the boost, but to check this would probably need a diagnostic check looking at the boost pressure and if it is a variable vane one to see if the vanes are free.
  10. Still try using the hand fuel pump but I suspect you are going to need a diagnostic check. If done at a Citroen dealer they will use the correct equipment (Lexia) and will be able to check all the sensors. Without the check you could replace lots of parts until you find what is wrong.
  11. Welcome to the forum. There is also a Picasso forum which may be worth you joining and there is a link to it on the home page.
  12. Welcome to the forum. The engine will be a 1.4 hdi (1398 cc). Since it runs once started, probably most of the sensors are ok unless the engine management light is coming on (should go off once the engine is started to show the bulb is ok). When the engine is stopped, can it be restarted soon without needing the spray or is it needed only after several hours of the engine cooling ? If there is a fuel pump hand bulb you could try using this before starting the car in case fuel is draining back to the tank, possibly due to an air leak around the fuel filter hose connections or filter lid. Poor performance could be the fuel filter needing replacing. An egr fault often gives a lot of exhaust smoke but you could check any actuator hoses connected to it for splits. Anything else and it probably will need a diagnostic check to see if all the sensors are ok and giving correct values.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can not help directly with this, but do you know for definite that the car will have a speed pulse cable since often the speed is taken from the abs sensors and then the ecu will calculate the speed which then goes to the speedometer. The wiring system will also be a can bus type. Citroen also tend to use cables of the same colour and have a number printed on them to identify its use. You may need a can-bus adaptor to provide a speed pulse signal such as this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C2-C3-C4-CAN-BUS-ADAPTOR-INTERFACE-CAN-01-/290380684598?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item439c099d36 This seller also says vehicle specific connectors can be provided for an extra £10 giving about £65 total.
  14. The turbo can get very hot in use so it is best not to touch it if the car has been used recently. Probably you will need to rely on watching for smoke from the exhaust.
  15. Welcome to the forum. Sounds as though there is still air in the system. If you look in the Haynes manual (even though it does not cover this engine), Citroen use a funnel on the expansion tank to raise the coolant level so the air can be removed. An alternative is to apply a vacuum at the bleed nipple to suck the air out - I have used a Mityvac when changing the coolant on a C3 but you may be able to use a large syringe. Not sure about how hard the hoses should go, are they the same as before you did the work ?
  16. Have a look in the Common Problems pinned post in this section for some things to check. On the 1.6 hdi the turbo often fails at low mileage so you need to check it has had low mileage frequent oil and filter changes. Ideally you would remove the ducting to it and check if the impeller has a lot of play indicating the bearings are worn - or at worst allow for the cost of replacing it or fitting a new cartridge to it (the impeller parts). If unable to do this, on starting and accelerating the engine look for a plume of smoke from the exhaust or any unusual noises when accelerating but the smoke could be masked by a dpf filter in the exhaust (also check the service history of the dpf - should be eolys fluid top up and maybe dpf replacement about 80k miles). Ask if the dpf has been removed (or the innards drilled out) since if so it would not pass the MOT.
  17. The C5 is one of the best towcars you can get due to its suspension (and size for carrying all the stuff). Check in your handbook for the allowed towing weights and hitch down load but from a 2003 brochure it gives for the hatchback 2.0 hdi (a 1900 hdi was never made) 110 hp automatic - unladen weight 1410 kg which will give a mass in service of 1485 kg to use in any caravan to car weight ratios. This will also be on the car registration V5C document. The estate is 54 kg heavier. - max towing weight braked 1500 kg (sometimes in the handbook this is reduced when going up hills) - max tow hitch download 75 kg. (estate 85 kg). Depending on what your handbook says, the above implies you should be able to tow a caravan of up to 1262 kg at 85% of the car mass in service weight, so one that has a MTPLM of 1300 kg should be ok. With the C5 being such a cheap car, if the gearbox did fail after pulling a caravan, then another one may be cheaper than a gearbox repair and unless you must have an automatic, then try a manual gearbox.
  18. Welcome to the forum. If you can not hear the fuel pump in the tank when you first turn the ignition key then maybe it or its fuse is faulty. You could try using something like easy start sprayed in to the air ducting to the manifold to see it it starts on that - if so then check the pump fuse and then check for 12 volts at the pump electrical connector - if these are ok then it may be the pump that needs replacing. When I had a pump fail on a Saab these were the checks done by the RAC. When turning the engine over if the rpm is shown then this was also said to confirm the crank sensor was ok.
  19. For the 1.6 hdi 110 bhp the parts list 2 options - 1 which is a triangular bracket with the point at the lower end and there it just has one bolt - Citroen part no. 6453YH and the other is a square bracket with 2 bolts at the lower end - part no. 6453NS. Again a Citroen dealer will be able to get the part and if you use your VIN you will make sure it is the right one. From your photo I suspect you have the square bracket, but you need to check that yourself. On your link, at the top left, if you enter the part no. where it says keyword and then the search icon, it will come back with their price for the part. This link has a photo of the 6453NS part http://www.sahibinden.com/listing/yedek-parca-aksesuar-donanim-tuning-yedek-parca-otomobil-arazi-araci-klima-komprasor-ayagi-1.4-hdi-peugeot-206-citroen-c2-c3-6453ns-86435029/detail
  20. Easiest thing to start with will be to clean the window channels and bottom seal in case they are full of dirt and maybe try something like wd40 sprayed on the channels - just in case a bit more than normal resistance is happening. Creaking could be the window is not seated fully along the top guide and is adjusting itself as you drive along. Next I guess, will be to remove a door card and watch a window go up to see if you can see something wrong.
  21. It is not mentioned on C5 brochures for 2009 to 2014 for any model or option but to get it to work needs the mirror selection switch to always be in the passenger mirror position. You would think it was only a software thing so maybe it just needs to be activated, possibly using a Lexia.
  22. Welcome to the forum. A separate pulley is not shown on Citroen's parts diagrams so a Citroen dealer would not be able to supply one and then fit one. This link shows how it can be replaced though and it must just be your garage does not have the right size tool and maybe does not want to source one - if you can get him to measure the spline you could get the tool yourself and an internet search shows they are not too expensive. Spline bit sets http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/320778543226?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108 I have deleted your similar post on the C4 section.
  23. First thoughts are maybe something loose under the car or a stone in one of the tyres but these noises would be all the time. If you park the car and then rev the engine, does the noise occur when you lift your foot off the accelerator - just to try and eliminate something on the engine ?
  24. This gives a mass in service then of about 1710 kg (I am not sure how much diesel it is supposed to include) if 20 kg is allowed for the towbar and makes a bit of a mockery of all the numbers in the brochures and handbook. What value does it have on the V5C ?
  25. Welcome to the forum. First thing to do will be clean the throttle plate and body with something like carb cleaner or a cloth damp with white spirit (turps). Carbon build up can affect the air flow around the plate or cause it to stick a bit. Also check the air filter is clean. You can look for any hose splits but since you have a MAP sensor and not an air flow meter any air leaks would be measured so may not give much of a problem. A code reader with live data may tell you if the MAP sensor is faulty but if it runs ok normally then it is may be ok but you could see if it is full of oil. Similarly, live data will show if the exhaust inlet lambda sensor is faulty - it should normally be switching up and down in value as it reacts to fuel mixture changes. You could also use one to check if the engine temperature sensor is giving a normal reading.
