Sombody Please Tell Me I Havent Just Bought A Pup!
paul.h replied to UVG's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Before your specialist does anything, it is probably worthwhile getting him to speak to the garage to agree on the payment details. I am guessing this is probably different to a purchased warranty where the cost of proving the fault is with the owner before the warranty company will agree to pay anything. Not sure about doing the other 3 injectors, depends on the extra cost but if minimal is probably worth doing. However, need to ask, what if one injector is stuck and needs expensive surgery to remove. -
Just Added A C5 To My List Of Citroens Owned

Good result. I have seen this before on ebay where s/h stuff is trying to be sold at about (or more than) new prices, so always worth checking the dealer. Same applies with pattern parts sellers such as eurocarparts and with the dealer stuff you know it will fit. Sometimes the dealer will give a discount if you go there a lot. -
Have you managed to get the repairs done yet ?
-
Was the air con giving cold air before or just a bit cold ? - just in case it needs regassing and the amount left is not enough to give sufficient pressure for the compressor to run. A regas is about £50 at a dealer and includes a vacuum/pressure test for leaks. Also the cabin fan needs to be running for the air con to work. From the Citroen manual, things to check if the air con compressor clutch does not engage or disengages quickly:- - compressor clutch - lack of refrigerant - air con pressure switch (on the condenser matrix at the front of the car) - check the connector but to replace will need the refrigerant removing/replacing. - air con evaporator temperature sensor - electrical circuit (connectors, wiring , fuses, etc). Any relay is most likely to be in the engine fuse box.

A sales brochure I have for September 2003 says the 2.0hdi exclusive has hydractive 3 suspension with automatic ride height adjustment. It does not have a sport button on the suspension height switches. If you look in your car handbook it will refer to the suspension and should confirm this.
-
You can look on service.citroen for the characteristics of your car (as well as the parts nos). If you provide your car model version and whether estate or hatchback on here we can also tell you if you have hydractive suspension. Have you tried a Citroen dealer yourself for the parts (take your VIN with you) ?

Depending on the success of John's reply, it looks as if the wiper mechanism (con rod assembly) could be unbolted from the wiper motor shaft, the wipers moved to the correct park position and then the wiper motor nut tightened back up. It could be the nut has become loose or maybe a bit of wear on the mechanism/shaft joint. To get to the wiper motor, the wipers need to be removed (mark their position on the windscreen with masking tape before undoing) and the windscreen scuttle removed.

There may be different struts depending on the year and whether hydractive suspension is fitted - seem to be 4 different part nos. at each side and mark 2 C5s may still have the same part nos. so you may not be limited to a mark 1. Your best bet is to check all the part nos. from the 2 cars - you can then use the VIN. Go on the service.citroen website and join as an other professional, member of The Citroen Owners Club and look at the free services for the parts diagrams. A new rear strut may be about £120. If it is only the gaiter that is leaking, this and its clip are about £18. The LDS fluid is about £16 a litre. A dealer will take less than an hour to replace a strut so labour charges are not high if you do not wish to do the job. If you do go under the car use axle stands, the suspension can drop if the height adjuster is caught, plus if depressurising it drops very low, only a few inches clearance left.

What warranty did the dealer give with the car ? It may be more cost effective to have it seen to under warranty before you start doing any work yourself which could invalidate the warranty. Would the dealer/warranty allow work to be done elsewhere and then still pay ? If you can not or do not want to use the warranty, a trip to coastline taxis in South Shields may be worth considering, about 60 miles round trip. Then you have somebody who knows about C5s as well as diesels. If the code reader is the Autel MaxiScan VAG 405, a look at its manual on line shows it does not do live data. The injector nuts should be torqued to 4Nm + 65°, so if there is a loose one, it may just need nipping up or a new seal. Looking in the Haynes manual, some parts seem to need removing to access the injectors and the nuts need an allen bit. -

If your code reader does live data see what the IAT - inlet air temperature is showing. It should be about 20°C with a cold engine (outside air temp) and then go a bit higher as the engine warms up. If you are getting much more than about 40ish then the MAF (air flow meter) may need a clean or replacing. The P0104 and 0113 codes. Also is the air con working ok and giving a low temperature - the P1461 code ? Does it start ok - P1351 may be a glow plug that needs replacing but in summer will not be a problem (from an internet search). There is a list of fault codes on this forum under the Petrol Diesel & LPG Injection section. P0238 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Circuit High P0104 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Intermittent P0113 Intake Air Temperature Circuit High Input P1351 IDM Input Circuit Malfunction/ Ignition Coil Control Circuit High Voltage P1461 A/C pressure sensor circuit voltage low Following is from a search on P0238 and this is in the Peugeot forums which may be relevant since you mention a hissing sound and then possibly it could be a loose injector:- Ive had the same problem for some time now.Almost every journey i made to work approx 16 miles away the engine management light came on. But after switching on/off for 4 or 5 times the light would switch off. I have a peugeot 407 sw on a 56 plate. I first checked the air filter which was ok but when i removed the small engine cover i noticed carbon deposits around one of the injectors. After starting up the engine there was blowing from this injector. After further investigation the injector was loose and after tightning the blowing stopped. Took car for a run and yes the depollution message came on .Now i was not prepared to take car to peugeot and give them £50 - £60 to tell me the fault codes so bought machine, plugged it in and found code P0238 cleared code and has not returned. -
Welcome to the forum. If it is from a Citroen, the following may help a bit (or help somebody else with a bit more info) if it was from such as a Xsara or Xantia 1.9 diesel but you may have to try a dealer with the engine serial no. or maybe the DVLA: Legislation type - Engine code 162 - XUD9 D8A - XUD9TE /L D8B - XUD9TF /L /W3 /W2 D8C - XUD9UTF /W2 D9A - XUD9 /K /L D9B - XUD9A /K /W2 /L - XUD9AU /W2 D9D - XUD9A /K /L DHV - XUD9 BSD /IF L4 DHW - XUD9 SD /Z /Y /L3 DHX - XUD9BTF /K /L3 /W3 - XUD9TF /Y /L - XUD9UTF /X3 /W3 /L DHY - XUD9TE /Y /L3 DJY - XUD9A /Y /L3 /W3 DJZ - XUD9 -XUD9 /Y

Xsara 1.6 16V 2001 - What Size Is Nut Securing Driveshaft Please?
paul.h replied to spitfire9's topic in Technical Section
There appear to be 2 different internal diameters of the drive shaft nut with different torque settings so you need to check this in a workshop manual: M24 x 150 : 320 NmM20 x 150 : 250 NmThese values are beyond any normal torque wrench so you may need to buy/borrow one or even go to a garage with one. -

Brilliant write up and does not sound too hard, I will try it on our C5 when it needs the filter replacing. Do you leave the eolys system in place and can this also work on other Citroens ? (lift up your center armrest/storage box and youl see a 16 pin diagnostic port) - is this for the latest C5 tourer/saloon ? Do not the models up to 2008 have the diagnostic socket in the passenger glove box at the side of the fusebox (pull off the cover) ? -
Rear Wiper Comes On When Using Key Fob To Unlock Car
paul.h replied to ninjaman's topic in C4 - Technical
The rear wiper motor is held by 3 large rivets that need an 8mm drill to remove. Its part no. is 6405 NL on earlier cars and 6405 S2 on later ones. The C3 and C5 have different part nos so if looking for a second hand one it will need to come from a C4. You can check the correct part no. against your VIN on the service.citroen website, join as an other professional, member of the Citroen Owners Club. The wiper control unit will be the one below the steering wheel that includes the wiper and light switches, usually called the comms 2000 unit. On our C3, I did try to clean the wiper switch with a spray cleaner but this did not help. -
Rear Wiper Comes On When Using Key Fob To Unlock Car
paul.h replied to ninjaman's topic in C4 - Technical
For £300 I would live with it, I did on our C3 for years. It was only sorted since there was a large dent in the door and the cheapest way to fix that was a second hand door for £50 which included all the things on it. Years ago, the standard wiper motor on BL cars had an internal stop switch which used to wear down and stop working so the wipers eventually never stopped - I suspect the Citroen wiper motors have something similar although the BL one could be replaced. The C3 one often would not stop after a single wipe but kept on going, eventually stopping in any position. Then on unlocking the doors, would move again and stop correctly. The second hand motor fixed it. How do you find the car and its performance, only asking as a possible replacement for the C3. I have been considering a diesel but they are £1-2000 dearer to buy, need twice as many services as a petrol and the 1.6 hdi is known for turbo failures so any fuel savings are more than wiped out by higher costs. I have read elsewhere that the 1.4 petrol at high mileages is prone to head gasket failure but that is something that can be diy fixed at lowish cost so not really a worry - although if it is due to corrosion, it may be worthwhile replacing the long life anti freeze Citroen use. If you need a workshop manual for the C4, Haynes do not do one but the Citroen service box ones can be found on such as ebay for as little as £3.99 on 3 dvds. -
Welcome to the forum. I am surprised it got through an MOT if the light has been on over a year and that your Citroen dealer could not fix it. If the air bag light is on, it also means the air bag system is disabled so may not work in an accident - it could affect your insurance. Also, there is a court case today where somebody crashed their car with the passenger air bag disabled and has been done for murdering the passenger. There is a wiring diagram in the Haynes C3 manual but I do not know if it is the same as the Pluriel. You also need to be careful with the wiring colours and identification nos. since Citroen often change these. If you want one specific for your car, these are included on the Citroen dvd manuals you can get from such as ebay for about £10. It may be worth undoing and redoing the connectors under the seats a few times in case these are giving a poor contact - but if doing any work on the air bag system, always disconnect the battery first and then wait about 15 mins for the air bag system to power down. I have not worked on an air bag system but suggest the following (others may provide better info): It is also probably not wise to use an electrical ohm meter to check for continuous circuits in case the current it puts down the wires sets off an air bag. Also, keep the driver's window open whilst the battery is disconnected so the ignition key can be used from outside the car in case an air bag goes off when powering up again. The following procedure for disconnecting the battery I have found does not give problems on our C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3). I did a google search and this came up on a Pug 206, being the best post that may help. Quote: The airbag system does NOT have sensors which check the system constantly. The only sensors are the impact sensors which consist of a ball bearing in a tube of high viscosity jelly, under an impact of >80 g the ball is forced through the jelly to complete the circuit and set off the airbags. The system is controlled by an ecu, and if the system detects any open or short circuits in the wiring it will memorise a fault and illuminate the light to let you know you need to take it to a dealer. The most likely causes are the connections under the 2 front seats for the seatbelt pretensioner and for the side airbags if they are fitted, simply a case of cutting the connector out and joining the wires with a heatshrink solder type sleeve. The other possibilites are a faulty comm 2000 unit, this would cause a 'drivers level 1 igniter open circuit or short circuit to earth' fault, though it is less common but not unheard of for these units to develop airbag problems. The actual airbags never usually cause faults. There could also be a faulty ecu, or a power supply problem to the ecu. If your battery has recently been flat then it can cause 'temporary supply voltage' and 'passengers airbag deactivation not defined' faults too.

The start up squeal could well be the auxiliary drive belt doing the alternator, air con compressor and power steering pump. Check it for cracks, etc. If you replace it I would also do the tensioner and idler pulleys. This is covered in the Haynes manual which is worth buying. Maybe check the battery voltage in case it is down a bit having been stood at the dealers for some time, although a 150 mile drive back should have charged it. According to Haynes, the eolys fluid should be checked every 75k miles and the particulate filter replaced at 62500 miles on the 1.6 hdi but in the service book with my car is has top up eolys fluid at 75k miles and replace the filter at 87500 miles for the C5 1.6 hdi - so these should have been done previously. Coastline may recommend to give the engine a thrashing to clear out some of the soot - high revs for a few miles. It may be due a diesel fuel filter change, at 37500 intervals. Worth checking what has been serviced in the records. Timing belt is 150k miles (120k miles severe conditions) or 10 years so probably not quite due yet but if a cover can be removed it is worth a check. -
When the dealer sent off the original V5C document, you should have been given the green bit - New Keeper Supplement. The V5C Doc. Ref. No. is on it below an address box as xxxx xxx xxxx and a date of last change. The new one you get probably will have a different no. but you may find the old one can be used. Your car looks good and with the 2.0 hdi must perform really well. I have never managed to post pictures on here so maybe you can tell us how its done. When you remove the AC sticker from the back window, I have found de-icer on a tissue is good at removing the glue left behind. If it goes over any heater element wires, be careful when pulling it off not to damage them.
-
Also, if you do not have the old MOTs for a mileage and any advisories check, you can now see them on-line using the V5C number at https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status-vehicle

Before trying to delete the airbag light, did you read the fault code ? Without doing this you may end up replacing and paying for lots of parts before finding the actual fault. Depending on the rpo no. and model, there is the steering wheel rotary connector and the following components (any of which may be the problem) The system consists of the following components (depending on the version)Airbag ECU 1Front pyrotechnically pretensioned seat belt 2 Front airbags 2 (as standard)Chest type side airbag 2 (as standard)Side sensors 2 Key for deactivating passenger’s airbag 1 The ecu should be located under the central air vents so to access it the air con panel and the vent duct need removing. Disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes before starting to remove it to avoid the risk of the airbags going off. Once replaced, the new one then has to be configured to the car so may need to go to a dealer or specialist with the diagnostic equipment. It may also be worthwhile checking the passenger airbag deactivation switch. if not already done.
-
If you need a workshop manual, Haynes do not do one but you can get the Citroen ones on 3 dvds from such as ebay for about £10. This includes the parts diagrams and wiring diagrams. Whilst still under warranty though you are doing the best thing and getting any problems sorted. Makes you wonder how well a car has been checked though when you start finding things wrong just after buying.

Just Added A C5 To My List Of Citroens Owned
paul.h replied to UVG's topic in New Member Introduction
The 2001 to 2004 model has a few differences to the 2004 to 2007 model so make sure you get the later handbook. The 1.6 hdi was not an option in the earlier model. -
Just Added A C5 To My List Of Citroens Owned
paul.h replied to UVG's topic in New Member Introduction
Just had a look at our handbook, about 200 pages, not A4 size, a glued spine - so to scan will take about 3 hours, maybe 100 Mb or more file size so too large to send by email, the outside of the scans may be black unless each page is adjusted to size, the spine would likely be damaged, to print it if about 5p per page about £10 and then A4 size and need a folder to keep it in. Conclude: the ebay one does not seem a bad price. However, there may be other sellers or car breakers with a C5 in who would sell for less, so could be worth a few phone calls. The rear seat bases can be tilted up and unclipped easily to remove to give more space and do not have any sensors. The seat belt warning light should go off after a while. -
I have not removed the wiper cover but if you do break it in your attempts, Citroen list it as a spare part and probably unlikely to be expensive - part no. 6405K4 and the switch is 6405K35
