  1. very clear and presise instructions there. done a few and they are easy to do
  2. Pennywise and pound foolish. There is a difference between petrol and diesel oil with most diesel oils having a detergent in it. personally i wouldnt chance it id buy a gallon of the proper stuff as the turbos on the 1.6 are horrific for going tits up and its always the oil that causes them to blow. Also if you dont use the oil then you can use it for your next oil change
  3. most 1.6 hdi say 140 to 160k before you change the belt. maybe we are just to set in our ways but i certinatley wouldnt let any engine go over a 100k without a belt change. remember these arnt a safe engine and valve damage will happen. but haven said that they spend millions developing these engines and they do no what there talking about so i guess its down to personal choice. Make sure you drain and flush your oil reguly or thesse engines will eat the turbos
  4. For the price of a litre or a gallon even is it worth taking the chance
  5. Job sorted. took pc to local shop to get sorted out. and in a nutshell we got the lappy backed up and fully anti virused plus another pc(that well use for the internet only) all for the princley sum of £54 yes thats rite £54
  6. I wish i was john. we havnt got a back up of our pc and i know its daft not to. Weve got some good stuff on it aswell that weve picked up over the years. and with this being the only site we ever go on we got a fright.now i know its not car related but could some one tell me how we back all of our programs up. because if we lose it well be right up the creek
  7. Do i take it that all the spam has been stopped now. been very causios about comming on the site recently as weve got to much (diagnostic/milage/recoding programes etc etc) on the pc to risk getting a virus. But been missing the site ha ha
  8. ok driving along loads of power and good mpg. Then engine light comes on and car goes into limp mode. plug it in and no faults present. Go to live data and all appears normal. then when the car is ready it will put the light off and run normaly. have taken snapshot of live data when car is running normal at 3000 rpm and compared it to snapshot of when the engine light is on and the data is the same. Now while were pretty compotent at using the scanner now. the ecu does remain a bit of a grey area so my question is could the ecu be faulted and put the engine into limp mode and take it out of limp mode or is it programed to only do that when its notified of a fault of one of the sensors
  9. It will be written on your log book
  10. probally cheap pads. As they tend to give of more dust, next time u wash the car get into the calipers and itl disapear for a few hours
  11. Its the switch on the end of the stalk. There is a repair for it on this site youl have to search for it though. Or replace your come unit
  12. its hydraulic and it sounds like your thrust bearing has colapsed
  13. Where you getting your fuel from. If we go to morrison although its cheaper we get less miles to the gallon in fact if we go to shell we seem to get a extra 6 miles per gallon (based on filling tank right up full then doing a hundred miles then topping it back up). As for the shudder weve had this twice and and both were different causes 1 was the front (rear) wishbone bushes And the second was the ride hieght adjustment. The c5 should drop the front end dowm to lower the center of gravity and increase stability normaly around 60ish (which is roughly 2 to 3 thoushand rpm). if they use there scanner and go into live data on the body/suspension side and take it for a drive they should see it lower. Just a fwe questions first though 1 can you tell if its front or back or which side 2 did you check to see if its been in a accident 3 have the alloys been balanced 3 what is the milage on it and has it had a clutch replaced if so sheck that all the bolts have been replaced in the bell housing and check geardox mountings and as already been sugested the dual mass flywheel although the dual mass would do it when stationary as well. I would start with what random has suggests but drop the car of at ours and well put 20k on a lot quicker for you
  14. as you look at the obd port the fuse is to the left on the bsi unit 3rd or 4th from the right
  15. Hi we use a snapon solus pro and have come across the no comminication issue a few times + probal causes are the wrong info has been put into the machine check the fuse for the obd port itself (wery common this one) if you still cant get in with the scanner then check the s50 key on the scanner. And if non of the above work the just use the solus to do a eobd health check
  16. Youl still need to remove the wrong fluid before it damages the seals
  17. Drain plug is on the bottom of the gearbox. remove it and let all the oil out then top your gearbox up with 2 litre of fresh oil. To put oil in we just remove the reversing light switch(top of the box) and put it in that way
  18. It needs to be lds fluid and nothing else or you run the risk of damaging the steering rack and the suspension hydraulics. Its a specific fluid and absolutley nothing else should be used. You need to drain the systems and top up with lds. Dont put it off or it will cost him a lot in the long run. Weve just done one yesterday that had the green lhm fluid in it and it done the rack in
  19. Hi When he changed the pump what fluid did he use to top the system up
  20. Manual or automatic box
  21. 370k itl just be starting to get run in a bit now. Itl do double that no trouble at all
  22. Is there any vibrations on the clutch pedal at all. Thinking dual mass flywheel fault
  23. Post what area your in as you might get a free bit of diagnostic help. If not then youl need to the car plugged in and see what presure the pump is at when your cranking the engine. What milage is on the car. Just a daft one but have you checked the fuel filter other faults weve come acros for none starting ( with no fuel getting through)are fuel presure regulator or the wiring to it also injectors
  24. Its the power steering rack seals have gone. when they goes one of two things happen it either leaks fluid or in your case it throws the steering right over to one side
  25. Sounds like the cable has gone in the rear window. and the wheel speed sensor would put the faults on that you have described
