  1. Have you got cruise control? A friend of mine was able to focus his attention more closely on the throttle sensor when the cruise control worked when the throttle gave problems.
  2. Thanks mate I will downgrade my search for this, it's unlikely that I will find anything that works. If I do I will post here.
  3. Yes. I have already tried one EODB code reader with CAN BUS support, but no joy. I'm trying to find a reader that will work, as it seems that most other makes are supported by the affordable code readers you can buy, but no one on any English speaking Citroen forum seems to have had any joy with the smaller hand held units costing £30->£100. Is it a question of protocol? Bassrock's answer seems to indicate that there was a lesser used protocol being used to communicate. I'm waiting on a Geniscan 500 trial on the Yahoo forum.
  4. Some useful information from Bassrock here: Bassrock's investigations into EOBD with some info about KWP 2000 Does this help in answering the question above? Can anyone suggest where there might be some more info on KWP 2000 variants?
  5. Please can someone help me, ideally someone with a 2001 or 2002 C5 equipped with the OEM VDO Dayton Sat Nav, which will be the RT2 variant. If you still have the original CD with the Sat Nav software (NOT the map), please can you have a look at it and post any web links which are written either on the CD or the cover for it. I'm looking for a website in Holland that will give me an affordable update to the Sat Nav software. I've been advised by somone in the know that this is the most cost effective route, as opposed to the very high cost of buying direct from Citroen. I've also heard that the same upgrade CD from Citroen in France is €22.99. Any comments please? Thanks in advance.
  6. Does anyone know when the DW12ATED engine fitted to the C5 became OBD2/EOBD compliant? I'm reliably informed that the ECU in question is the Bosch EDC 15C2. I suspect that RPN 8941 is a major number in this saga, but have no idea. Was the transition to EOBD compliance at the same time as the change from the 88 way connector for the ECU to the 112 pin one?
  7. My view is this - for years I've used my little knowledge to buy Citroens and enjoy very nice cars very cheaply, simply because everyone is afraid of innovation, hydraulic suspension, etc. If you win a crusade to prove the C5 reliable, then second hand prices will go up to the levels they are in France, for instance, or are here on stuff like VW, Audi, Mercedes and BMW. If C5 2nd hand prices hit VW, Audi and BMW levels, I'll no longer have a nice relatively new car. Let them all think the larger Citroens are unreliable dogs that cost a fortune to run. Depreciation will then keep my favourite cars cheap to buy 2nd hand. YMMV.
  8. Despite a lot of knocking, in the Which? Survey of all cars that arrived this month the C5 did relatively well in the reliability stakes. I was surprised at some of the makers and models seen to be below it, including the Skoda Octavia, which seemed to have slumped reliability wise in surveys over the last 3 years. OTOH, both that and C5s are used as taxis, and seem to acquire enormous mileages. Honda seems to be up there in all categories.
  9. In France you either run a vehicle repair service or an MOT testing garage. If you test vehicles you are not allowed to participate in any sort of vehicle repair. Added to which French MOTs are every two years.
  10. I think it is the VDO Dayton system It goes via the ECU that also interfaces Traffic Master and mobile phone to the audio system, I think. I also need to find out more about this as I'm wondering if I can get more recent software and if it possible to have more than one language loaded at a time.
  11. I've already bought one scanner/code reader, which does not work. Fortunately I can return it as the retailer assured me it would work with my vehicle. It is OBD 2, CAN but does not work with my car. It is a Geniscan 300. It lit up with the welcome message and preformed a scan but non of its protocols matched the car, and it ended up displaying a Link error Which models of scanner are know to work in reading diagnostic codes from a 2002 2.2HDi C5? Please do not suggest eBay, they all say it will work but do not really know for sure. I'm looking for someone who has bought and used a scanner successfully with a an HDi engine and ideally a 2.2. Thanks.
  12. There is already a thread Beam deflectors with Xenon headlamps on that subject. There is another thread Xenon H/l & Beam Deflectors here with the same question but no answer. Do we have a moderator on this section of the forum to merge or rename threads, or remove duplicate posts?
  13. Shut windows once you have got the hot air out of the car after moving off. Set temperature to cold, unless using AC for demist/defrost. Turn fan up. Set air to come out of dashboard vents. Press button with snow flake on it, or set AC as opposed to ECO or AUTO using AC button looking at small LCD display. Set air to recirculate once you have got the car cool. Its the button with the arrow inside the car only. It depends on which model you have IIRC, Mk 1 or facelifted.
  14. I would be inclined to check that there are no leaks in the pipe that feeds turbo over pressure to the diesel pump, or if your car is more modern that that, that the manifold absolute pressure sensor is connected and working. With XUD 406s of which I have one (very similar to Xantia engine wise), it's gutless with the plug to the MAP sensor disconnected. Please can you let us know if your Xantia is a 1.9 XUD engine or the 2.0 HDi. Failed turbos tend to make a bit of a racket unless they are totally seized IMO.
  15. This might help you if you get a fault code given to you. Techs, do you rate this list as correct? PSA fault codes from BBA-reman There is some general ECU style discussion here: BBA-reman forum
  16. I have done the repair to a failed rear screen and even if the wire has failed it is still possible to manually move the solenoid under the trim and the boot will unlock. All I can suggest is that you take the trim off, disconnect the actuator ram/solenoid from the car electrics and then manually operate the ram. This should allow the lock to pop open, then you should be able to close the glass section once and for all. If the ram does not move when disconnected from the car electrics then there possibly is your answer to the fault! It has seized?! Also check you are pushing the ram in the right direction, it's easy to do the opposite as the ram does not operate how it appears to. Once you have got the glass closed you can use the car, then download the pictures from the Yahoo C5 site for the repair, having read the excellent instructions here that save time, as you may mot have to do all that the Yahoon site suggests. Regardless of all that you will need a multimeter.
  17. Pre or post 2004? Mk1 or Mk2? The manuals are different because the controls are very different. Try eBay. It rocks for manuals.
  18. How do you stand if French plod pull you over and ask why your car is not fitted with the necessary converters? IIRC they are on the list of mandatory things required, even if you are not driving at night. I bought the aftermarket headlight protectors and they come with converters. I already have beam converters on the lenses anyway.
  19. Are you sure it's not the underbonnet insulation crumbling? If it were to be exhaust type soot it would have to be linked to a leak, and for it to be up top in the engine, should we suspect the EGR side of things? Who knows. Any sign of any leaks or crumbling/degraded noise deadening foam?
  20. This is indeed correct, there is no intermittent non automatic position, but that's how PSA cars have been for a while, as my sh*te old 406 (1996 vintage) has exactly the same set up. However despite advancing age the rain sensor still does the job very well. Worth check the sensor is not Donald Ducked?
  21. There are two solutions to the Traffic master problem - 1. Press the button twice. The unit should then say manual mode, and will shut up. It will only then flash the dashboard light when it gets updates, which it won't, as the sub has run out. 2. Swap the ECU that interfaces TM with the car with one that doesn't work properly, like mine. You will get no TM. What sort of vehicle have you got? ;)
  22. Quoting from the manual for the 04-> For the rear number plate lamp, it simply says to unclip the lens and pull the bulb holder.
  23. Can you post the exact error code here? It may help other people trying to solve the same fault or may get a response from a Citroen tech.
  24. IIRC HDi engines have 100k cam belt changes. Eolys fluid and DPF AIUI only apply to the 2.2 HDi in the 2003 model? Later models have DPF in all engines sizes? BHP boosting can also be done as a download by Superchips. It's invisible to all but the knowledgeable......... but must be declared.
  25. Are you sure the lambda sensor has not been affected by Tesco/Morrisons duff fuel episode? Personally I would find a garage that are prepared to look at the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) for a sensible sum of money. The error code will tell what the car thinks is wrong.
