If you give us a clue as to location we can suggest specialists or independents.

I'm going to guess about £1,500 for a repair to the top end. Remember there are very similar engines in Peugeot and now Ford. And of course, it could be down to the way the belt was tensioned.....

Cam Belt Breakages On 2.2 Hdi

Surely it would be better to ask this in the C5 forum, and maybe even search there for existing threads? C5 2.0 HDi Fuel Consumption Automatic gearbox Fuel economy - Good or bad? Real World economy Fuel Consumption 2.2 Hdi / Manual, Straw poll amongst owners? C8 2.2 HDi fuel consumption, chipped The best advice I can give you is check the battery voltage as sometimes you get spurious faults on this car with a low battery. Both voltage and current capability need to be top notch.

The report is here: Mergi insurance report Thanks to Colin for the info.

There were no signs of this on their web site. Has it been redesigned?

Seems all PSA cars have minor issue with the wipers being left in the auto position. If you leave wipers in auto, turn off the engine then come back, on starting even if the wiper is in auto mode it doesn't work as such. Returning the control to off then selecting auto cures this. I also turn off the rear wiper and turn back on. MY 1996 406 does the same on front wipers. If problems persist in this area it's possibly a COM 2000 fault and expensive. You may be able to clean the wiper tracks on a COM 2000 unit and clear the fault, but I must admit I've not tried. Should you wish to try I can sell you a second hand COM 2000 unit with an airbag fault on it, which may be just a wiper.

C5 forum 2.0 HDi fuel economy thread

Have they not hear of Douglas Bader? :) But seriously, there are far more 2.2 autos than people with one leg?

Sport setting: Sport setting is related to Hydractive 3+. This is standard on highest trim levels or an optional extra. Not all 2.2s have H3+. H3+ is present on other C5s with higher trim levels or where it has been bought as an option. H3+ rocks, as it allows nice ride but with almost no roll. Reminds of the Xantia Activa.

If you are in France check out Norauto and Feu Vert. Norauto Norauto bike carriers Feu Vert Bike carriers I got some very keenly priced roof bars for an estate with roof rails. Halfords now do some that are comparable, but in Sept 06 Feu Vert were the cheapest option.

Does this only happen on motorways or major A roads? Sounds like Traffic Master to me. Have you had the car from new? Did you ask for it? On the right hand side of the steering wheel, just below the air vent is there a button marked TM? If so, press it once. It should say "Traffic Master". If you want to shut it up, keep pressing the button twice in quick succession until it says "Manual Mode". -
Stupid suggestion: If the C5 is anything like the BX with a load sensing valve then loading the boot up with something very heavy then going for a 10 mile drive may sort things. I used this to unstick or remove corrosion from the rear brake discs on sh*te old BX more than once. The load means the system applies more force to the rear brakes and they get freed up. Worth a try before you strip down. Another thing I find will unstick slightly sticky brakes is going out on a very wet, slippery day, finding a straight piece of road with no one around then executing several emergency stops which must trigger the ABS to be effective. All that ABS vibration unsticks things. Not to be done anywhere near people or other cars, nor within eyesight of our uniformed upholders of the law. YMMV.

And yet the 2.0 6 speed manuals will do over 50 to the gallon..... I've got a 5 speed 2.2 and get about 42 mpg. Why people spend all that extra money on an auto simply to waste fuel heating up ATF is beyond me.....

What year/model/engine is it? It may be that the relay that drives the whole thing has croaked, but without knowing your model I can't try and find it in the RTA manual. Find the relay from the ticking sound and maybe reseat it. It may just be loose. It seems like getting to the hazard switch will require removal of the radio and the surround that includes the plastic around the radio and vent/climate control, including the vents at the top. In my manual this is all one large piece of plastic. The two fixing screws are behind the buttons for the central locking and disabling the ultrasonic movement sensor in the car. You may need to remove the radio, maybe not, and then you have to gently unclip the plastic around the outside. When it comes out, it will include the two vents at the top and the hazard is mounted and connected behind that. This is for a phase 1 (up to 2004) diesel C5. I checked in my car that when I lock or unlock the car the hazard lights flash but the button on the dash does not illuminate. It does not seem to be affected by locking or unlocking.

The rear screen takes about 20 minutes, 1m of 25mm wide electrical tape and either a small amount of soldering or connection block fixing. Not worth replacing the glass for as it will only go again. Download the pictorial instructions from the C5 Yahoo group. Easy for even a basic level of DIY ability. Did mine just over a year ago and no problems since. Save £300+ if you have no extended guarantee.

Can I suggest some switch/contact cleaner from Maplins?

The ball joint thingy is the Swirl Chamber control valve. Failure of it can lead to Anti Pollution fault warnings. It is not part of the EGR valve as I understand it. It is however part of the intake/exhaust system. If you are comparing fuel economy figures you might want to post if your car is manual or automatic, there is a big difference in fuel consumption figures between 2.2 manual and auto, and it also seems that 6 speed 2.2 manual owners get the best fuel economy of any 2.2 engined vehicle. My car improved its fuel economy a lot after the replacement of the DPF and fluid. The economy improved further after the replacement of the Swirl Chamber control valve. I get low to mid forties with nothing on the car roof or towed. I was told by my local independent Citroën garage that a lot of C5s suffer poor fuel economy because of slightly binding brakes. They advised me to get the car to them after a s/h purchase to have that checked. They also advised me against purchase of a 2.2, saying that the 2.0 six speed was the one to go for if economy was paramount. However, they conceded that as a driving experience and for engine smoothness, the 2.2 had its advantages. It's not easy to find a 2.0 Exclusive, either. They did not think that a 35 to 38 mpg return was poor and was as good as I could expect, seeing as that's what a lot of people get.

I've got the complete assembly here. Mine has also failed but it's the diaphragm that's gone. So if you want the assembly with an undamaged ball joint but no diaphragm to make something of, send me a PM.

Common thread is that some Citroen garages, not forgetting experienced independents can diagnose and fix well. Some dealers who haven't invested in technician training or kit can't. The anti pollution faults will have fault codes logged. You need to get the codes and investigate. If your car is EOBD complaint then a cheap reader may be the solution. Not found one that will work with a Mk 1 C5 2.2 diesel yet. There are a lot of things that can cause Anti pollution or ESP/ASR faults, but it seems the most wrongly diagnosed one from this forum is the blocked EGR valve. :D Unfortunately, seeing as people so often start new threads rather than search the forum for the already existing topic, we have the information but badly scattered about. Search here, across the C5 forum as a whole there are probably some 15 threads on anti pollution, all with good answers, but not all in the same place, and we don't have the moderation effort to merge threads and advise about using searches.

Somewhere in the region of 300 notes. I could sell you a second hand one, but it also has the airbag faulty problem on it.
-
Have you checked that the height sensors/correctors* have not stuck? *Delete as you prefer. Manual refers to them as height correctors You could also try driving the car on a good surface to more than 6 mph and see if this provokes the system to say "low position not allowed" and pumps it up.
-
You will need to get the fault code read before it is cleared. Airbag fault lights can be caused by a COM 2000 problem. It's the control unit for the column stalks and steering stuff. If that's the case it's the driver's airbag it refers to, but it the airbag is not faulty, the COM 2000 unit is.

This is the case, even against Tom Tom 5 on an ancient iPaq, the iPaq wins. Sometimes you get a faster result by using the first 5 characters in the post code. I do this now on the RT2 system in my Mk 1 C5.
