Out of interest, how many times have you removed the roof bars? Ian Black 55 VTR+

I am very wary of extended warranties since my experience with a Citroen BX and an ABS fault. My ABS light came on and I took the car in for repair. The garage diagnosed an ABS valve block issue and replaced it under the warranty. I then got the car back and the ABS light was still coming on. The garage then diagnosed a new ABS computer. The warranty company claimed the 2 items were part of the same fault and would only pay for 1 of the repairs. I argued that they were 2 separate faults but they only paid half of the 2nd more expensive ABS computer replacement. I had no choice but to get the work done or the car would have filaed its MOT. So as with all things buyer beware. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Isn't there a film about that with Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger? Ian Black 55 VTR+

That is the part of the rev band where the turbo starts to kick in. My 55 diesel 110hp changed as the engine loosened up. Noticed changes in MPG and what gears could be used at different revs, where the car pulled etc just after the 10k miles and 20k miles. Not noticed any strange noises. Why not try to find another 110hp diesel on your dealers forecourt and ask if you can test drive it to see if it sounds similar. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Doesn't matter what any Citroen (or other manufacturers) spec sheets say they all have a small print get out clause along the lines of ...reserve the right to change the specification at any time. They did this with the 5dr VTR+ spec replacing the closing boot pocket to just an open pocket. I was told by a Citroen dealer that when the Picasso production line ran out of standard fit sun roofs a batch of them came of the line with solid tops. Even if you think you are getting a certain spec of car you may not be. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Reminds me of that VW Golf add where the driver keeps hearing a squeak when in the car and it turns out to be an earring she is wearing. Maybe you could sell your story to Citroen for their next C3 ad campaign. Ian Black 55 VTR+

You will probably find some of the above is due to how new the car is. Both the engine and the gearbox have to loosen up. My C4 1.6HDi did not like 5th gear at anything under 40MPH for the first 10,000 miles now it will quite happily trundle along at 28MPH in 5th. Ian Black 55 VTR+

My 13k Citroen does do that  I also get auto lights on as well as the mad auto wipers on mornings when the car has lots of condensation on the windscreen. Ian Black 55 VTR+

It has probably been dropped from the warranty as it is not unique to the C4 or Citroen. The main cause of brake squeal is the composition of the brake pads. For all you never wanted to know about brakes go to this website: http://www.c3pluriel.org.uk/ Click on the questions section and see the 2 websites under the topic "Why do my brakes squeal". If you have a specific item you want to fit in a car I would always recommend taking that item with you to a showroom and seeing how it fits. Dimensions are all well and good but you tend to find the space never has straight sides, things like wheel arches intrude. Whilst a dimension will tell you if something can fit, it never tells you how you have to lift and twist the item to make it fit. Ian Black 55 VTR+

I have mentioned this in replies to other posts about Citroen customer service. In my experience you can have issues like this with large companies or sole traders. It is all about individuals not companies. If you find a helpful individual the service you get is amazing. Talk to a 9-5er and you get what the idiot card tells them to say. I owned a Pluriel before my C4 my dealer was excellent and never had a problem sorting things out under warranty. The problem with large companies tends to be they produce anything from thousands to millions of products and yet despite faults we continue to purchase and use them. No one stops using BT phone lines or Microsoft software because we know the have poor or non existant customer service. Ian Black 55 VTR+

The alarm goes off when you reach 75mph and stays on at all speeds above this and you have NO message on the any display when it sounds? Sounds like you need to take it back to the place that enabled this non standard feature. Ian Black 55 VTR+
-
You would be a very lucky person if you went through life and nothing you purchased ever had a fault. To my mind it is not about things going wrong, but how you are treated when they do. There is no substitute for good customer service. Most complaints are about poor communication between the customer and the company they bought something from. Ian Black 55 VTR+

The C4 only has a speed limiter or cruise control. Speed limiter can be overridden by pressing the accelerator against the floor switch i.e. flooring the accelerator. Even the C3 overspeed warning only pings a couple of times when you cross the limit it is set to, then it shuts up. Have you looked at the display when you get the alarm sound, sometimes a message will flash up on the lower display telling you what problem the car thinks it has. Maybe you have a door catch or seatbelt warning coming up. Try pressing the test button and watch the messages scroll through on the display. What spec C4 do you have, does it have sat nav? It all depends upon your journey. Centre of Edinburgh to the centre of London. Train - Waverley to Kings Cross, time = 4.5 hours, cost anything between £27 - £300 return depends how many years in advance you book and the time you want to travel. You can plug in a computer or DVD player watch a movie of your choice or surf the internet and you don't need to stop your journey to go to the toilet Plane - 20 mins to the airport, arrive 2 hours early to pass security, flight time 1 hour, train from airport to middle of London 1 - 1.5 hours. Costs bus to airport £1, Flight £30 - £300 depending on when booked and time of travel, train fare from airport to middle of London. Not allowed to use electronic equipment on board. Driving - takes about 8 hours if there are no hold ups, maybe 1 tank of fuel (depends if diesel or petrol), congestion charge, car tax, insurance, wear and tear on car, proportion of servicing costs. Then there is car parking on top. Can only play with car gadgets and number plate bingo Ian Black 55 VTR+

Do any of the other odometer readings change, trip distance or total car distance? Sounds like a software glitch. Ian Black 55 VTR+
-
You may have saved a fiver in road tax but that will soon be clawed back by the increase in fuel duty and other taxes. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Maybe you should start another thread titled, Shortest distance on 1 tank, and see who wins that one  Ian Black 55 VTR+

I agree, in a majority of cases the cost of running a higher performance car is prohibitive for younger inexperienced drivers but: Rich parents will put their kids on their insurance or just pay the premium for them. So if you can't insure it your parents don't earn enough. Not everyone who buys a gun will use it to murder someone. Just becasue a 17 year old drives a low insurance group car doesn't stop them speeding or driving badly. Why not just link the premium to the number of accidents and convictions you have, that way good drivers pay less no matter what car they drive. As always it is the minority of people who abuse things that make the majority of us pay for it. Ian Black 55 VTR+
-
Yes, but they would only pay out £1 if you prang it. I think they value the car based on something like Glasses Guide or need to see your invoice, not the owners guestimate. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Climate control was on all the time, normal use of washer, wipers, lights etc. Radio on most of the time and a GPS plugged into the lighter socket most of the time. Used the cruise control for most of the mortorway miles but apart from that no special treatment. Driving style the same as the 21k odd miles previous to the last tank. The only thing I can think of that was different was to use Shell instead of supermarket diesel. If that has given me 50 - 100 miles more from a tank I might stick to the branded stuff. Just filled up at Tesco so let's see how far this tank gets me. Ian Black 55 VTR+

Just got my furthest trip from 1 tank of fuel. The car has just clocked up 22,000 miles and I managed to get 664.2 miles from 54.62 litres (12.01 gallons) of diesel  . That's about 55MPG (car trip said 53.4MPG) from mixed motorway and town driving. The car even claimed there was another 35-40 miles left in the tank. That's from a 5 door 1.6 HDi 110. Wonder if it will break the 700 mile barrier one day? Ian Black 55 VTR+

So the logic is faster speed = more accidents so you would advocate more speed cameras and lower speed limits to reduce the number of accidents. A Fiesta with a 1.25 litre engine can reach 90MPH is that too fast? There is more chance of any older car with no deadlocks or security system being stolen. I would think a cosworth is more likely to have a high spec alarm on it because it is a known target for tea leaves. If you are playing the percentages there is more chance of being in an accident with a £1,000 banger than a £100,000 Aston as there are more lower priced cars on the road. I understand your arguments but I am saying there are just as many points you can make to advocate another system. Besides, the insurance compaines in the Netherlands are not going out of business, I don't think they have more road accidents over there and their premiums are based on car value not engine power. Ian Black 55 VTR+
-
I think any insurance groupings are a rip off. The insurer should base the premium on what the car costs to replace and the number of accidents the driver has had. Nothing else has any financial impact on the insurer. It makes no sense to have a premium of £2,000 on a 1989 Sierra Cosworth costing £3,000 whilst having a £200 premium on a brand new C1 that would cost 7 grand to write off. Grrrrrr. Ian Black 55 VTR+
