  1. Citroen dod do repair kits for the brake calipers....they start at about £25 per side....it has more than the dust cover in it. As for brakes binding.....make sure you have located the lug on the rear of the pad with the piston...if you dont they sit pissed and wont release properly.
  2. as you say it isnt under a great deal of pressure.....however as you will have noticed there are various sized pipes and they are sized acording to the amount of LHM thats likely to be flowing through them. So..........you want to sleeve it? ideally if this is the route you are going, you need to ensure the internal diameter of your sleeve is as large as possible whilst the wall thickness is stong enough to allow you to tighten a hose clip round it. your local car accessorie shop may sell some suitable t pieces or joiners.....ussually on one of those fancy displays that has bubble pack of fuses, rolls of wire and switches. Alternatively i have had success repairing repairing pipes with a suitable disposable pen.....dont use the crystal plastic ones....there too brittle and dont like oil....copper tube if you can get it the right size. alternative to pushing a tube inside both and hose cliping maybe to get a pipe that can go over the pipes and push them inside it.....if you do you will still need to find a means of stopping the iner pipe compress as the hose clip is tightnened. and another consideration......if the pipe has split....could you blank off the hole (using a bolt and a hose clip......and run the return from the accumulator into the top of the reservoir....after all thats where its trying to get to. Wish you luck......if not see you at your funeral. kfk
  3. If the engine is running its possible to remove the keypad on either diesel or petrol models.....the problem only occurs when someone in the futire plugs it back in and doesnt know the code.....they then have the problem nikki has in the original post.
  4. If your really lucky he never changed it.....in which case it might be '1111'. If that doesnt work it might be worth finding out if he had it serviced at a garage.....if your really lucky someone might have written it on a job card. Another favourite for the older generation is the year of birth or maybe wifes birth....did he have passwords for anything else....any clues there ?
  5. key in ignition.....turn on......press button 10 seconds......turn off, wait 2 minutes and hope it works
  6. I would suspect that the plastic link rod on the rear height corrector may have become disconnected. If you are going to check this make sure the vehicle is supported on axle stands as with a crushed head you wont have need to worry about it any more!!
  7. probably a function of the gearbox that assists to bring the oil up to operating temperature quicker...and possibly to assist with warming the engine up quicker to ensure it is meeting emmision regulations.
  8. .....ok......so i would check the fuel filter housing for air leaks and also the pipe at the rear of the engine for cracks/perrishing. the poor starting could be down to air ingress or maybe glow plug failure.....obviously if the glow plugs have failed this will cause a problem cold starting but wont cause air in the system. To try and confirm if the air is causing poor starting try priming the diesel system with the ball pump before cranking it over.
  9. Could be related to the problem.....do you also have problems starting it....do you have to keep pumping the primer? What engine is fitted/age of vehicle?.....this might help you get some usefull pointers to the cause of your problem. If its a 1.9D i would start looking for air leaks at the fuel filter housing lid....replace filter and seal, and then move on to the fuel pipe that runs over the cam pulley and down the rear of the engine....it isnt unussual for the fuel pipe to perrish at the rear of the engine....it doesnt leak but it does allow air to be drawn into the system.
  10. unfortunately they are correct
  11. C5 radio doesnt require coding unless it is being fitted into a different C5.......so assuming your radio is working ok now it should still work ok when you disconnect/reconnect your battery.
  12. Well done, glad you got it sorted.
  13. Its the black one you need to worry about.....the switch as you say is operated by pushing the socket in. If you remove the socket and look into the rear where all the wires connect you should be able to see it clearly....you might even be able to fix it with a squirt of wd40......obviously to confirm its the switch you should be able to bridge it out and see the fog light works.
  14. Have you got a tow bar?, if so i would check the fog light switch fitted into the towing socket.
  15. the radio sounds like it is causing the problem and is the symptoms caused by an aftermarket radio that has been fitted incorrectly. To check quickly just disconnect the radio and see if the problems all dissapear.....reconnect and they all return......obviously if the fault returns you have some rewiring to do.
  16. Going to assume you have checked the battery condition and earths to body/chassis. Also assume any immobiliser is working correctly. If your also assuming the above then i suggest you check it all first. From memory, voltage supplies to injectors and coil come from the brown double relay, signal wires for ignition coil & injectors are controlled by the injection ecu, for the injection ecu to provide these pulses it needs to be recieving power and have good earths......when cranking the engine over the flywheel will rotate and cause the engine speed sensor to provide the signal to control point of ignition and injection. So things to check: Do you have voltage to the injectors/coil when cranking.....if not find out why these dont go throught the ecu. is there a good earth to the ECU For power supply issues i suggest you check the brown double relay close to the ecu. is the engine speed sensor connected or the wiring broken.
  17. If you pop into your local citroen dealer and ask them to look at the screen showing radio.....i think the part you require is item '55'......if so £3.07p inc vat ....part no 6560EK
  18. Remove the rear lights and check that the wiring harness that connects them isnt getting trapped under the rubber seal when the lamp is refitted......if your really unlucky you might find the connector corroded that connects to the light. .....having said that, 2006 model......isnt it under warranty?
  19. you really want to pray it isnt the modutop leaking......you dont take it out to reseal it....you take it out to replace it......replacement is probably worth as much as the car.
  20. More than likely it will have valve damage.
  21. People can fit whatever they like based on the fact 'it looks the same'.........but when it doent run as expected, doesnt return good fuel economy or doesnt pull like the old one used too you might be a bit cheesed off.
  22. The recall involved a range of cars and owners would have been notified. As you have found, it's possible your vehicle has had the recall prior to your ownership. In which case the modified spring retaining cups will have been fitted if the previous owner reponded to the recall. The recall did not involve replacing the springs, it merely provided a cup that would catch the spring before it dug into your tyre should the spring snap. With regard to the charge your dealer wishes to make to check the recall. Somewhere along the line someone is being asked to do something by you to satisfy your mind that the recall has been carried out and that you dont have a broken spring.......why should they check it for nothing? if its peace of mind your after you should be happy to pay the charge......and if they find a fault satisfied that in the first instance it maybe money well spent. Should your dealer find that a broken spring is present on the vehicle there is no hard and fast rule as to who pays for the repair.....you might be p'ssed off but the manufacturer has guidlines whereby it may or maynot offer a Goodwill gesture.....a goodwill gesture isnt an entitlement and may not pay for the repair in full. If you have any doubts about the front suspension you should speak to your Dealer......if you want to know if the cups have been fitted a polite request to your local dealer should get a receptionist to wander to your car and have a quick look and say yes or no.......if you want someone to check there fitted correctly and it is found on checking that they are......expect to pay for someones time.
  23. Post a message in the guest area for the moderators to view, let them know the name you have registered under and hopefully they will get you sorted with membership......i might add its worth checking your junk email to see if your response is there.....I seem to recall the site doesnt like hotmail accounts either post here
  24. i would suggest you check your engine coolant level and also your carpets in both front footwells to see if they are wet. It sounds to me like you are smelling warm antifreeze......if the carpets are wet its possible the heater matrix has failed.
  25. service updates and Recalls are all serious, some have safety implications and others may cause the failure of a vehicle whilst in use, which whilst not necessarilly dangerous may cause inconvenience to the owner when it grinds to a halt. If Citroen notify you of a recall safety or otherwise it should be treated as serious and not left till your next service. I loose count of the number of times a customer asks if it's important.....if its not important they're not going to send you a letter or call you in to get it fixed.
