If it is not the exhaust, above it is an aluminium heat shield that is held to the car body and the fixing holes in the aluminium enlarge over time due to corrosion and the shield can then become loose and bang about. A couple of large penny washers will hold it back in place. The exhaust back box is held by a metal strap that can rust through so the box is no longer suported. Citroen do not sell the strap but universal ones can be bought through ebay.

The radio may need recoding to the replacement bsi, not sure about the fuel pump, some have had an immobiliser link on them. We had an abs pump replaced on a 1.6 hdi C4 and that needed coding to the car. Sometimes fuel injectors need coding when replaced.

C5 2001 Stop & Service - Won't Start. Tm Button ? Intermittent
paul.h replied to bignose2's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
Welcome to the forum. I doubt the Traffic Master has anything to do with it. On our previous C5 it would give out messages if the car was stalled or the battery disconnected but not wishing to pay for a subscription I just pushed its button to stop it each time. It could be something like the crankshaft sensor is failing, these start to give problems when hot but once cooled down will let the engine run. They do not usually give a fault code since the engine needs to run for one to be given. If the starter motor is clicking but not turning then it could be a fault with the starter motor or its wiring. If you are going to pay somebody to sort it you are best to use a Citroen dealer with the right diagnostic equipment and experience of your car. The hourly rate might be higher than elsewhere but there should be less hours and the right solution found. On the front suspension struts a slight amount of oil on them is normal and you should wipe it off before the MOT. -
You could get a quote from a dealer for the work, the parts prices will be the same but you will not need to buy any tools and you could ask on the likelyhood of disturbing the liners.

At that mileage it will also be due for the exhaust dpf to be serviced and with the eolys fluid refill it could be several £100 - dpf should be done at 100k miles and the fluid level checked every 50k miles and if needed to be topped up. Timing belt replacement is 140k miles or 10 years if sooner for normal service or 112500 miles for arduous service. So whilst not yet officially needed, you need to allow for it needing doing soon. A dealer will give you an idea of the cost but including the water pump/pulleys/belt/auxiliary belt and its pulleys, it is likely to be around £400 or more. Normal service intervals for the car are 20k miles or 2 years if sooner, so it could be due for a service. A major thing to check for on the 2008 on C5 is a leaking steering rack. This is very common and needs a replacement rack to fix. It leaks from the column shaft oil seal and sometimes from the fluid pipe connections. A recon rack is around £250 or a new one fitted at a dealer about £1200. This is included in the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned topic.

It makes sense if it is a brake switch fault, possibly on the handbrake somewhere. Or maybe there is a wiring problem in the handbrake area since there is also an accelerometer/gyrometer sensor that is part of the esp system at the side of the tunnel below the passenger seat and under the carpets. It may also be worthwhile checking the battery voltage since if this is low it can lead to odd electrical problems. Plus if your car is still on its original one it may be getting due for replacement. Before running the engine it should be about 12.5 volts and with the engine running it should be about 14.4 volts.

Well done, apart from your time, fortunately it has not cost anything in parts.

If you look on the internet you are likely to find lots of different procedures for battery disconnection/reconnection and depending on if you want to do a bsi reset. The one that I have used on many occasions is in the Common Problems pinned topic and copied below but the important thing seems to be to not do it too quickly so the bsi has time to shut down and start up. Also since our cars are kept on the drive the doors and windows need to be closed whilst the battery is off so I have not been able to lean through a window and do anything. So the batteries have been reconnected and then left for a few minutes, the driver's door has been opened, I have got in the car, shut the door, then waited for the bsi to shut down again before then using the key in the ignition switch as noted below. The 1 minute intervals are not exact, just any longer and it would take too long. If you do lean through a window and use the key in the ignition switch, make sure the gear lever is in neutral first. 16. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3).

You might be able to use a bicycle or foot pump to blow through the pipe.
-
I have not removed a cylinder head on a car with wet liners but reading the Haynes manual for the C3 there is a risk of disturbing the liners when removing the cylinder head. I would think they could also be disturbed when cleaning up the block and liners to remove the old head gasket bits.

The fuses are listed in the handbook. It is also possible the 12 volt socket fuse could have a blown fuse and the lights could be blown bulbs. If you do not have the handbook you can read/copy/print it from here after selecting your vehicle and year http://service.citroen.com/ddb/

On the eurocarparts site the refund on an exchange rack is £120 to £180 depending on which one you buy. So if you could find a reconditioner to sell it to maybe you could get around £100 if it is in good condition.

How did the mechanic diagnose a seized turbo, did he remove the inlet/outlet pipes and see if it would rotate ? More likley there is a sensor or actuator fault for it suddenly to lose power and the diagnostic check is the way to go.

It Asks For Service After Topping Up The Diesel Tank
paul.h replied to toptop's topic in C4 - Technical
The eolys fluid additive is dosed when the diesel tank is filled and takes a signal from magnets in the fuel tank cap (if the same as the C5). So when you have filled up, it has dosed the fluid and now based on a calculation of the number of fills it thinks the fluid tank is at a low level. So it needs filling up and the ecu reset and hence probably the reason for the service message. The oil/filter engine service is probably not due yet at only 10000 km since the last one, unless the time interval has been reached or the service interval was not reset at the last service. -
This 1/4" Teng torque wrench does 0-18 lbf ft (0-25 Nm). Do a search to find the lowest price http://www.screwfix.com/p/teng-tools-drive-torque-wrench/44700 . Its range will be useful for spark plugs and possibly the sump plug. You would not need an angular gauge since 240° is 2/3rds of a circle so you could make something out of card and divide a circle into 3rds and place over the bolt being tightened. You will need to check but the head bolts might need a torx socket (E sockets). I have read that the oil way has a rubber seal in the gasket that perishes over time due to the heat. I would not add any more sealant since it could end up blocking the oil ways and if the original gasket has lasted about 10 years then the replacement should see the car to the end of its life.

If looking at the engine from the front, the engine ecu could be at the right side towards the front.

I think you are probably best to go back to the garage, their work and parts should have a guarantee so it should not cost you anything to fix.

Which engine do you have, size, bhp, petrol/diesel, year of car ? If the oil leak is at the timing belt end you should inspect the belt for oil contamination - depending on which engine you have it may be possible to remove the belt top cover by undoing 2 bolts. My Haynes C3 manual covers 2002 to 2005 and under petrol engines 1.1 and 1.4 litre it has the values you have given - 15 lbf ft (20 Nm) followed by 240° so I am guessing you have a 1.1 or 1.4 litre petrol with the TU1JP or TU3JP engine. In Citroen's service box procedures for the 1.1 and 1.4 petrol TU1JP and TU3JP engine for the cylinder head bolt torque it gives: - aluminium cylinder block 1st stage tighten to 20 Nm, 2nd stage angle tighten 240°. - cast iron cylinder block 1st stage tighten to 20 Nm, 2nd stage angle tighten 120°, 3rd stage angle tighten 120°. For the ET3J4 engine it gives 15 Nm, then 25 Nm then 200°. Following the Haynes manual - the head bolts should be measured and it they have stretched too much they should all be replaced. So do the check and then decide. They are likely to be expensive, as an example and not a recommendation of a supplier or their parts, on the eurocarparts site for a 2003 1.4 petrol they are £15.30 for a set. Their head gasket for the same car is £11 or £16 depending on the make. Wet liners can be seen in the engine pictures in Haynes and are the cylinders in which the pistons work, as opposed to a solid engine block that is cast/machined. Half way down these cylinders are O-ring seals against the engine block to keep the coolant out. Haynes shows clamps being used to stop the cylinders moving.

Welcome to the forum. There is also a Picasso forum which you may also wish to join. There is a link to it on the home page. When you do the oil/filter change it is important to use the correct oil recommended by Citroen in the Warranty and Maintenance guide. Dealers sell the Total oils recommended and the cost is competitive with other makes for full synthetic oils, plus they are in 5 litre packs whereas others may be 4 litre.

What Engine Is Used In My 2008 1.4 Lpg Berlingo ?
paul.h replied to stephen37's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Your best option may be to look at the Citroen parts diagrams using your VIN and see what engine part numbers are used for your car. Then see if the same part numbers are used on other cars without lpg. If you have a donor vehicle in mind then you could also use that vehicle's VIN to check the parts. The parts diagrams can be seen as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club. You could also do this at a Citroen dealer if sourcing the parts from them. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres -
If the air leak is in the brake booster (brake servo) you may notice it does not retain a vacuum whilst the engine is off so the brake pedal will be hard to push down soon after the engine is stopped, whereas normally the pedal can be used a few times before all the vacuum is used and the pedal goes hard.

C8 Seatbelt Tensioner Or Airbag Fault Warning
paul.h replied to humptyw's topic in Technical Section - C8
You can also try the passenger seat airbag on/off switch but after that without the diagnostic it could be anything. Some code readers will do air bag faults but are dearer than a Lexia. Examples http://www.diagnostic-world.com/pages/peugeot_airbag_189379.cfm On one of the C5 sections there is a pinned topic of members who are able to help with diagnostic checks so you could look to see if one is near you. It may not be a wiring fault but could be a sensor such as a decceleration one and without reading the fault code you will not find out. When the air bag light is on the air bag system may be disabled so drive carefully. Looking through all your previous topics/posts, you have so far not given any details of your car other than C8, what year, engine size, petrol/diesel, trim level is it since this can affect any replies given ? -
I read somewhere that on some engines the egr valve is operated a few times when the engine is switched off and you can hear this on our 1.6 hdi C4. So maybe the fault code is generated at this time if your engine does the same.
