It might need new wiper motors. This is from the C5 technical section common problems pinned topic: 43. New C5 (X7) front wipers not working properly. Before replacing one of the 2 wiper motors, it may be possible to do a fix to the motor wiring pins - see this topic from c5vtr http://www.citroen-o...x7-wiper-motor/

Jump Straight In - Buying A Used Citroen Ds3
paul.h replied to Helen_Queen's topic in Citroen DS Range
Forgot to add, at 86k miles and 7 years old, it is not yet due for a new timing belt, but will be in a couple of years. Cost at a Citroen dealer including replacing the water pump is around £450. -
Welcome to the forum and thankyou for your help with other people's problems. Are all these cars C4 models apart from the C3 and what year is the C3 ?

Welcome to the forum. Do you have climate control with separate control of the temperature for each side ? Is the problem that when using the air con, one side does not get as cold as the other or is it that when not using the air con, both sides do not give the same temperature, warm or cold ? When the garage put in more refrigerant did this make any difference since having too little can cause one side to not cool as much as the other - I found this on our C5 when the air con was on and the amount in the system was only about 10% of a full charge. When setting the heating at max temperature, do both sides get as warm and then when setting to cold with the air con off, do they both get as cold - just to see if the warm air flaps are working ?

Jump Straight In - Buying A Used Citroen Ds3

You need to be careful with the 1.6 hdi engines since they are prone to early turbo failure if not serviced every year and the correct oil used so you need to check for any turbo problems and that you have a long warranty. Check the servicing has been done at a Citroen dealer as well. It is also due for a service since 12 months since last one done. I do not know if £5000 is right for a 7 year old car, you can look at Citroen dealers and in Autotrader to get an idea. At this mileage the exhaust particulate filter (dpf) will be due for replacement and the eolys fluid topping up - expect a bill of maybe £400 at a Citroen dealer. If you look at the MOT history, it has only done 4k miles in the last year, and the previous 3 years it has been similar whereas in the first 3 years it did 61352 miles - makes you wonder what happened for the use to change so dramatically with only 1 owner. Last year it needed new front tyres, previously it needed new front brake discs. https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ Personally, I would be looking at Citroen dealers since they usually have better quality cars and give a full 12 month warranty and you are likely to get a lower mileage car. They seem to start at around £5500 though but you may get a lower price if you haggle http://www.usedcars.citroen.co.uk/results.aspx?wflw=se_na_re_vi&pg=1 -
Power Steering Pipe 2002 2.0 Hdi
paul.h replied to Sheldon's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Welcome to the forum. If it is the high pressure pipe from the pump to the steering rack it might be Citroen part 4014EZ. If it is the low pressure pipe from the rack it might be part 401309. If it is the pump suction pipe it might be part 401234. If it is the low pressure pipe on the lds tank it might be part 4012G3. These should be checked using your car VIN but should be ok for the 2.0 and 2.2 hdi manual gearbox. If your Citroen dealer is unable to supply these pipes then you may need to try for ones from a scrap yard. -
Is it the 2001 to 2004 C5 or the 2004 to 2008 C5 ? Do you have a dedicated wiring kit or an after market one ? If you have Citroen dedicated wiring then the fuses should be as noted in your handbook. I have wired up towbars on our C5s using aftermarket kits with smart relays. When I wired up the towbar on our 2004 C5 (model year 2001 to 2004), I took the 12 volt positive supplies direct from the battery and put the fuses there and then ran wires to the back of the car to the towbar relays. When I wired up our 2007 C5 I took the supplies from the dash fuse box top fuses which are permanent live, using the existing towbar wire (beige going to the existing towbar wiring connector at the back) with a 20 amp fuse (position G36 ?) for the 12S wiring relay and then took a supply from the next fuse location G37 ? input and put a spade connector in with a wire/ fuse holder (15 amp fuse) and a new wire to the back of the car for the towbar lighting relay.

Welcome to the forum. I had this on a C3, replaced the drop links which were worn out but also on one side the strut top bearing had failed/fallen apart. This occurred whilst the coil spring at that side was replaced. Replacing the bearing needed the strut removing again. The noise was noticed when slowly going over bumps.

H Van 70Th Anniversary Celebration, Thuoars, France
paul.h replied to HY72's topic in All other Citroen models
Welcome to the forum. There have been 2 other H van owners on here recently. You could try a message direct to them and their details can be found in the attached topic http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/24394-hy-van-saying-hello/ The easiest way to send a message is to move your cursor on to their name and then click on send a message. -
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully the above checks will find the problem. You could also check the lds fluid level but I doubt this is the problem. Do not unfasten and change the position of the height sensor since to set it needs a diagnostic to get the height right. You probably already know this, but do not go under the car without it being on axle stands (or ramp). If the suspension height adjuster is caught (or purposely touched) the suspension can quickly drop to a very low level, quicker than you can get out of the way. On the 2008 on C5 if the front wheels are jacked up and left hanging, the lds fluid tank cap should first be slackened off and left until the car is back on the ground to avoid the risk of the tank splitting. Before jacking up, the suspension should always be raised to the max height (and the key removed) to avoid possible problems with the suspension.

I have no idea on these things but you could have a look at the Citroen parts diagrams if you register on service.citroen as an other professional non emergency services and as a memeber of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres you might need to select your language first. Once on the site use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. If you look at the left side and click on Characteristics it will give you info on your car.

Only thing I can think of that could help is to check the bulb holder, the wiring connector and the earth point are all in good condition and clean without any corrosion. Just a question, how do you find the 1.2 litre 3 cylinder engine in the C3, is it powerful enough, any problems with it ? It seems to be the only petrol engine Citroen use now but have a few higher power options including adding a turbo.

Level Drop After A Couple Of Hours Parking
paul.h replied to nagy592's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
When I replaced the gaiter on a rear strut I did not look at the seals or the piston since I did not remove them, so I do not know what condition they were in. The new gaiter still leaked though so in the end I had the strut replaced. -
The swirl valve plates are inside the cylinder head - is it these that have been removed or the actuator ? If just the actuator, the arm that moves the plates will still be sticking outside the end ot the cylinder head at the gear box end. The arm is shown in the attached photo from a C5. it has the ball on the end of it.

It might be cheaper to source a used engine than repair your existing one. Cam belt failure is common on the C8 due to the design fault mentioned by Rookie2. As an example which includes the part number of the drip tray http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21432-a-few-technical-issues-cam-belt-snapped/ And another http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/6817-2003-c8-timing-belt-car-going-to-the-grave/

Welcome to the forum. Any help you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.

Is it just the swirl valve actuator that has been removed (or just disconnected) or the swirl valve within the cylinder head that has been removed ? At the gear box end of the cylinder head there is a pivoting arm with a ball on the end of it that connects to a plastic cup on the actuator rod. This is from the C5 common problems topic: 11. C5 2.2 hdi 136 hp only, swirl plate diaphragm actuator ball cup breaks. Vacuum leak/turbo fault codes (any engine). Located at the left end of the cylinder head. Symptoms may be loss of acceleration, engine management light, increased fuel economy. The plastic ball cup may be replaced on its own (10 mins) or the complete actuator replaced (several hours DIY), about £20 but the cup is not available separately. This topic has a few notes on how to replace the part http://www.citroen-o...ragm#entry40936 There is a diy fix here if not able or want to get the dealer part http://www.citroen-o...-to/#entry82945 I read in Car Mechanics a case where the actuator had a vacuum leak which resulted in the engine management light and limp mode and fault codes for over boost and turbo regulation fault. The slow loss of vacuum reduced it also to the turbo wastegate so turbo boost level dropped, the ecu then increased the boost control duty cycle which then deactivated the swirl control increasing the vacuum boost and tripping the EML/limp mode. These fault codes have also been reported here and it turned out to be a split in the vacuum pipe to the egr valve actuator - so any cause of a vacuum leak should be looked for before touching the turbo.

Have you still got the magnets in the fuel filler cap that operate the switch near the filler neck under the wing ? If either of these is not working the car will not know it has been filled up with fuel so will not count down the eolys level or add any eolys to the fuel tank. If this is the case then you will not get the message to say the level is low but you would think the dpf would block up. The service interval is supposed to be top up the eolys at 75k miles and replace the dpf at 87500 miles for the C5 1.6 hdi.

Welcome to the forum. In the car Warranty and Mainenance book with the service stamps it will give the frequency of the timing belt change. Depending on which engine it has (2.2 hdi or 2.4 petrol), it could be over 100k miles or 10 years if sooner. In the book with our 2010 C3 which covers all Citroen cars, for the 2.2 hdi it gives 140k miles or 10 years for normal use or 112500 miles or 10 years for arduous use. It does not list the 2.4 petrol, possibly it has a timing chain but for other petrols it gives 95k / 70k miles normal / arduous or 10 years but for the 2.0 petrol it gives 87500 / 70k miles or 10 years. These intervals are for Citroen parts so if any installed are aftermarket ones the interval could be different. When you change it though is up to you and how much you are concerned about it. If you are planning on keeping the car for many years, then at some point it will need doing and if done sooner rather than later you will benefit from knowing it should be ok whilst you have the car. If there are any signs of oil leaks in the area then there is a chance the belt could be contaminated, or if there are any noises from the area it may need changing. As well as the belt, the tensioner, any pulleys and the water pump should also be changed.
-
Could also be a problem with the crank shaft sensor since this would prevent the car starting but would not give a fault code. Looking at the parts diagrams there are quite a few sensors and to start replacing any of them without knowing which, if any, is faulty could prove expensive. There are also several different power outputs for the engine, do you know which is yours - 110, 120, 138, 163 hp and does it have an exhaust diesel particulate filter (dpf).

On the Citroen cars we've had, only the C4s have a fuse box on top of the battery but I guess its internals must be within the fuse boxes of the other cars. This would suggest a lack of power could be a fuse box problem if the other obvious things like the turbo are ok.

Welcome to the forum. A few details of your car are needed, what model, year, which engine, auto or manual gearbox, how many miles has it done, any work done on the car recently, is the servicing up to date ? When you try to start the car does the engine turn over on the starter motor ? The lack of windows working could be a fuse has failed such as a maxi fuse - we had this on a Xsara Picasso. A maxi fuse failed cutting all power so the engine would not run and the windows would not work. The RAC could not find the fault so it was towed to the local Citroen dealer who sorted it. No reason for the fuse to fail other than it may have been faulty and the problem never happened again. You could always try a bsi reset but it may not help. To overcome the windows and the door open problem, just have the door open and close the lock on it against a screwdriver and the car will think the door is locked since the door open/closed sensor is built in to the lock. Was the car running normally before since it is possible some of the fault codes could be old ones that have never been deleted or are minor faults that would not cause the engine to stop and you have not noticed them before or just ignored them ? Did the AA delete the codes or leave them as well as the freeze frame data that will give a good indication in future diagnostic checks of what was happening when the last fault occurred ? If the numbers you have given are P fault codes then on here they are listed as follows: P1429 Electric Air Pump Primary Failure P1435 A/C Refrigerant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance P1442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected P1112 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage P0215 Engine Shutoff Solenoid Malfunction P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction If these are still current fault codes, they suggest the cam sensor or its wiring has a fault (this may prevent the engine running or give poor running), the fuel pump (probably the one in the tank if there is one) has a fault, the MAF sensor temperature sensor part in it has a fault (this would give poor running), there is something wrong with the air conditioning (this would not stop the engine), the engine fuel shut off solenoid may be faulty (this would stop the engine), there may be a fault with the electric air pump ( I do not know what this is). If you do not do your own maintenance I would take the car to your Citroen dealer since they will have Citroen specific diagnostic equipment to find out what is wrong. If you do your own maintenance this may also be the best option since otherwise you can start replacing parts hoping to find the fault before spending too much.

Welcome to the forum. You could check if the car battery voltage is low, should be about 12.5 volts before starting the engine. Also if the engine is slow to turn over on the starter motor would give some indication. Does the locking button on the dash work to lock and unlock the doors ? If so you could try to re-initialise the remote key following the remote battery replacement procedure in the handbook. Should be to put the key in the ignition and turn it so the dash lights up, then immediately press and hold the remote lock button until the doors lock. Then remove the key and see if the remote works. If not remove the battery from the remote, check the battery voltage (should be about 3 volts if ok) and if needed replace the battery with a new one. Then do the initialisation procedure again. I recently had to do this on our C5 remote spare key since it had not been used for years and had lost synchronisation with the car and was not working - when holding the lock button down the doors did not lock but once removed from the ignition it then worked but only after removing the battery and then putting it back and initialising it again. The clock and radio resetting though could indicate a different fault. We had a previous C4 that would frequently reset and this was fixed by a software update at the dealer.

Our 2015 C4 1.6 hdi 115 hp was suffering from poor acceleration at low revs, noticed just after a service but this was a coincidence. I could push down on the accelerator pedal and it barely accelerated until the revs got to about 1800. This also made it a bit difficult when setting off, needing to rev the engine more than normal before letting the clutch pedal up. The engine management light was not on but a diagnostic at the dealer found a Citroen specific U fault code which showed an open circuit in the fuse box on top of the battery. A known symptom for the fault included a lack of power. This has now been replaced under warranty and the car is back to normal. Other names for this fuse box seem to be BPGA supply management and protection control unit, power relay unit.
