Engine Light In And Esp Light On. 2011 Vtr Grand C4
paul.h replied to Grandc4's topic in C4 - Technical
It could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions. Only way to find out is to use a code reader and it may just be a low cost sensor that has failed. I think the ESP works from the abs system as well as the speedo and steering angle so the 2 faults could be related. It is worth having an engine fault code reader since they do not cost much and one giving live data does not cost much more than a basic one, as an example http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html -
Welcome to the forum. cfryve was the forum expert on auto gearbox problems but he has not been on the site for over a year. A search using cfryve comes up with a few posts such as this one http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/9382-gearbox-valve-control-unit/?hl=cfryve I would think any Citroen garage or Citroen specialist would have the diagnostic equipment - should be the Lexia for Citroens. Copies of this are also available on-line to install on a lap top for about £100 and some members have these. This post contains members who are able to help others with diagnostics but I do not know if any are near enough to you http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20345-diagnostic-help/ The Citroen parts diagrams can be seen as a free service if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club on the service.citroen site. Use your VIN (VIS) in the top left to find your car http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres I have moved your post in to a subforum since ones outside of one do not show after a few days and are then difficult to find.

A link is also included where Mike Lane had a problem and his post is copied below: Gosh!! it seems to work. On my 2005 (facelift) C5 VTR 1.6HDi I removed fuse 5 (Does both front doors) waited a few secs and plugged it back in and, lo and behold, after doing the anti-pinch routine, I can control ALL windows from the driver's switches! Advice - read the owners manual to find which fuses are for which door.

We changed to Citroens 10 years ago and they have been the most reliable cars we have owned, as well as low cost maintenance. They also do not seem to rust unlike some other more popular cars. On the C5 Technical section there is a pinned topic on Common Problems which is worth looking at. If you do your own maintenance the Haynes manual is worth having. Probably only unusual maintenance needed will be the rear brake calipers corrode where they contact the suspension arms so they need removing/cleaning up and greasing on a frequent basis. There is a pinned topic on this also. If the C5 is not regularly used, you will find the battery goes flat in about 4 weeks and need charging up. It is not a sign of a problem, just the car alarm/electrics/suspension pump seem to use a lot of power. So if your car will not be used, it may pay to disconnect the battery or use a charger that can be left connected. Probably also it may pay to leave the handbrake off - it works on the front brakes, but like any car, the pads could rust on to the discs and stick if not regularly used, especially if they get wet.

If you look in the Common Problems pinned post, there is a fix for the bouncing that involves removing the window fuses.

Whether Lexia 3 Can Work Well For Citroen C5
paul.h replied to carlon cai's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Welcome to the forum. I have not used a Lexia but it should work on the C5. With the Chinese copies of the Lexia, some have found if used on the parking sensors it can introduce a bug and the sensors may not then work and need to be reprogrammed. -
Rear Brakes, To Use Loctite Or Not
paul.h replied to aspire_helen's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
In Citroen's (and Haynes) procedures, they say to renew the caliper bolts only on those with loctite. On the cars before RPO 8879 that did not use loctite the old bolts are re-used. The bolt part nos. are the same. So they must expect some damage to them whilst removing since in use any stresses ought to be the same. On the 2009 on C3, they also say to replace the front caliper bolts which need removing to replace the discs - but when trying to order them, the dealer said they do not replace them unless damaged and the parts dept checked the records and found they had not used any. These bolts have a dab of loctite on them - so maybe it is said to replace bolts to make sure loctite is used since as supplied it is already on them. On the C5, the idea of swapping over the rear calipers if the corrosion is too bad is a good one. It would be worth checking the seating for the bleed screw and brake pipe is in good condition first. -
Is your car an exclusive model to have tyre pressure monitoring ? It may be worth checking that tyre again in a few days in case it has a slow puncture.

Welcome to the forum. I could not see anything in the handbook that to me looks like a mobile phone, have a look yourself and see which it is. If you do not have the handbook it can be read/printed/saved on the service.citroen site. The warning lights come under Familiarisation, Warning Lights, page 26. http://service.citroen.com/ddb/ - you may need to select your language, Handbook pack, then your car. If the engine does not turn over on the ignition key, then the first thing to check would be the battery in case it is flat. Without the engine running its voltage should be about 12.5 volts, with it running about 14.3 volts.

I think you should get the starter motor checked.

Welcome to the forum. We do not seem to have many members with a AX but that will not stop us trying to help you. You might find Citroen may not be able to supply all the parts now but you can see the Citroen parts diagrams as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Use your VIN (VIS) in the top left to select your car. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres

I hope that is it sorted, if not let us know. I was not expecting it to be the battery, but if it was too small it may not have been powerfull enough to start the car. On our previous C3 when I replaced the battery I put a larger one in to help with starting in winter. The space to fit it can accept ones larger than originally installed by moving back the rear plastic cover.

Could still be the starter motor, an external check of it will not show if the internal motor brushes have worn down or the armature copper contacts needed cleaning, or if the solenoid internal contacts are eroded/dirty - these are normal causes of the motor not working on high mileage. After checking the starter motor, if you suspect a bsi/ecu problem, do not use an auto electrician for a diagnosis, use a Citroen dealer with the proper equipment to diagnose the fault.

Has the height of the clutch pedal above the floor changed and has the height of the pedal at which the clutch bites changed ? Did the garage say if anything had been done to the pedal or the cable, such as adjustment or greasing/oiling ? If you look at the pedal under the dash, does it look normal and rests against the stop screw above it ? The pedal height can be adjusted by a bolt above the pedal and the free play can be adjusted at the gearbox end of the cable. The pedal height perpendicular to the floor at the mid point on top of the rubber should be 135 to 145 mm. This is adjusted by a stop screw above the pedal lever. The amount of free play by pushing down the pedal until resistance is felt should be 18 to 28 mm below this and is adjusted at the gearbox end of the cable by a large nut (not the one at the very end of the cable). The pedal biting point should be at least 25 mm above the floor.

An internet search suggests that whilst the judder is not normal on a new clutch, there is a chance the clutch may bed in and the judder may go. So other than checking the engine mountings, it may be best to do nothing for a few weeks. When I have replaced clutches on our cars they have not juddered straight away apart from one which then also needed a new spigot bearing on the flywheel. Your car does not have a dual mass flywheel so unless there was damage or bad wear to the old one from the old pressure plate wearing out, then the flywheel should not be the cause of the judder. I had a Maxi that had a worn flywheel and I could clean up its friction surface but the judder kept coming back. I do not know what is meant by the clutch nose cone and the parts diagrams do not indicate anything. You can see these as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Use your VIN (VIS) at the top left to see your car. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres If you do your own maintenance, Haynes do a manual for the C4 but your engine is not covered. For this you can get the Citroen Service Box from such as ebay as 3 dvds to put on your pc.

Rear Brakes, To Use Loctite Or Not
paul.h replied to aspire_helen's topic in Problems and Fixes - C5
The extra shim to stop the knocking of the pads goes across the top of the pads and clips to the spring and is quite thick, it is not the ones that go between the pads and pistons. -
Is it petrol or diesel and how many miles ago was the clutch fitted ? The engine mountings (check particularly the one at the back) can be checked by looking at them or possibly getting somebody to rev the engine and see if it rocks forward/backward. The clutch cylinders can also be looked at for fluid leaks - the master cylinder in the driver's footwell and the slave cylinder at the front of the gearbox. The other things need the gearbox removing and the clutch removing to check it - if the clutch guarantee was passed to you as the new owner, then the garage should be responsible for any work. Do you know what make of clutch was fitted and did the garage say if there was anything wrong with the flywheel or what they found wrong with the old clutch and why was it changed ?

I would suspect a problem with the starter switch or the starter motor and at 102k miles there is a chance the starter motor is due for replacement. The clicking I was thinking of at the starter motor happens when the ignition switch applies a 12 volt supply to the solenoid on it and then it moves internally to complete the 12 volt supply direct from the battery to the motor - if it clicks but does not turn, it implies the ignition switch is ok but the motor or its wiring is not or the battery is flat. If it does not click it could be a problem with the ignition switch or a flat battery. I would think the battery is ok. Ideally you need to check with a meter for the 12 volt supplies at the starter motor. Also you could try switching on/off at the ignition switch a few times when it does not work to see if it helps a bit. If you are unable to do your own jobs on the car, you will need to take it to a garage or a friend who can help.

Welcome to the forum. If the tape is black electrical tape it is wrapped around the wiring to keep it together, but over time it may lose its stickyness and come unravelled. In the picture you can see some wires going across the top of the rectangular black plastic ignition coil and these are wrapped in the tape. When the coil is removed to replace the spark plugs the wiring has to be unclipped and the tape can suffer. If that is all it is, then wrap the tape back around the wiring and then no need to worry about it. In this Technical section there is a pinned topic of Common Problems which are worth a look at.

Welcome to the forum. Just to confirm, does your car have a manual gear box ? If so the reversing light switch (if this is what you mean) would not have anything to do with problem. Please confirm, your problem is when using the ignition key, the engine does not turn over on the starter motor. When trying this can you hear a clicking noise from the starter motor ? First thoughts are the starter motor needs replacing but first you need to check its wiring and electrical connections are in good condition/clean, the engine earth wire is in good condition as well as its connections and also that when the ignition switch is used you are getting 12 volts at the starter motor solenoid switch. Also check the battery voltage is normal so you know it is not simply a flat battery - should be about 12.5 volts without the engine running and about 14.3 volts when it is running. These are things that I would have thought a garage would have checked. A high clutch pedal biting point seems to be normal on the C3.

Welcome to the forum. Which engine do you have - it may have a dual mass flywheel which could be worn out, but it should have been checked when the clutch was removed (unless the previous owner did not want to pay). Other possibilities could include engine mountings, oil on the flywheel, clutch master/slave cylinder problems (check for leaks or may need to bleed), bad wear of the flywheel surface, worn bushes in the flywheel for the gear box shaft, a cheap clutch kit.

It is still worthwhile checking the fluid levels, it will not take long.

You would expect there to be a message saying what is wrong, if not then you will need to check the car over. If you can not find anything wrong then maybe you will need to take it to a Citroen dealer (or other Citroen specialist). This is copied from a handbook for the 2006 to 2008 model: ---------------------------------------- SERVICE warning lamp This warning lamp remains on for a serious fault. Contact a CITROËN dealer as soon as possible The lamp stays on only for a short time for a minor fault. Contact a CITROËN dealer if necessary. To learn the origin of the corresponding alert message, refer to the «Log of alerts» (see chapter II) or your NaviDrive instructions. ---------------------------------------- The log of alerts looks to be accessed from the radio menu and in the handbook is covered by the multi function display chapter. Have a look at this and it may say what is wrong. If not, then you need to have a look at the car for something obvious. If you have a volt meter you can check the battery - it should be about 12.5 volts without the engine running or about 14.3 volts with it running. Have a look at the front brake pads through the wheels to see if they look worn down (less than about 4 mm of friction material left). Lift the bonnet and check the brake fluid/coolant/engine oil/steering fluid and washer fluid levels. Check all the light bulbs are working. From the RTA C4 manual, it lists the following are indicated by the Service light but some will depend on the model/engine: Problems where the light will remain on: - anti pollution fault - this could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions but may also be indicated by the engine management light coming on. - a suspension problem. - ESP problem.(you may also get an ESP warning light) - battery charge problem (check its voltage). - tyre pressure low. - an immobilser transponder problem. - an air bag problem. - an EOBD problem. - an ABS problem (you may also get an abs warning light) - a lighting or indicator problem (check all the bulbs are working). - an auto gearbox problem. Problems where the Service light would not stay on are given as: - engine oil level. - low tyre pressure. - presence of water in the diesel filter if a diesel car. - washer fluid level. - low level of eolys fluid (exhaust dpf filter fluid) if the car is a diesel with a diesel particulate filter.

Citroen C1 Vibe Door And Boot Lock
paul.h replied to spanky's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
welcome to the forum. If it is just the lock barrels you are replacing then there is nothing needed with the ecu. From the parts diagrams it looks as if the barrels are easy to replace once the door cards are removed. Only a C clip holds the front door ones and 2 bolts hold the boot one. There are 2 different types of lock barrels depending on your car RPO number, the change occuring at RPO 12820. The RPO is on the door pillar sticker which also has the tyre pressures. To get replacement locks you could try a breakers for used ones but they may be worn and you may not get 2 keys, or you could use a Citroen dealer who can also supply a matched set to use the same key as your existing key but this costs more. A boot and the front locks with different keys are about £35 and £50 or to use your existing keys about £45 and £85. -
Welcome to the forum. If you turn the engine off and back on again does the service light go off ? You can look in your handbook to see what it means but it will be the car thinks something needs looking at such as battery low voltage, brakes worn if it has pad wear indicators, maybe oil level wrong, maybe a low fluid level (brake/washer/coolant) or it may just be an error. The spanner indicator is based on miles covered or possibly 2 years so would not come on.
