  1. I would agree with the comparison with the C5. Our 2007 C5 requires a firmer push on the brake pedal compared to the C4 (and our C3). The C4 and C5 servos are the same diameter as well as the front brake pistons and master cylinders (depending on the model), so maybe there is more leverage on the C4 brake pedal as well as the car weighing less or the electronics in the brakes help more.
  2. Welcome to the forum. How many miles has the car done ? Anti pollution fault just means there is something wrong that affects the exhaust emissions so could be anything so you need a fault code reader to see what that could be and it may be a different problem to the filter one. The message unblock diesel filter usually means the diesel particulate filter (dpf) in the exhaust needs cleaning/regenerating. You also need to check there is still eolys fluid in its tank (located somewhere near the fuel tank). To regenerate it you could run the car above about 40 mpg in a low gear for maybe 20 minutes which should burn the soot off. If the eolys fluid has run out there probably would be a message saying low additive level but this is based on miles done rather than an actual measurement. If you went to a dealer they would possibly try a forced regeneration or fit a replacement dpf and top up the eolys fluid but at a cost of several £100. Some people will remove the dpf and water jet it to remove the soot. Removal of the dpf is not an option since the car would fail the MOT.
  3. Looking at the parts diagrams without using your VIN, your car needs a 150 amp alternator but some petrol ones and diesel ones without air con only need an 80 or 90 or 120 amp alternator. So you need to get one from a diesel and not a petrol car, assuming you are trying the scrap yard route for a replacement. If you do not get 150 amp you will find your battery will not get charged up enough. A while back a member bought a new one and got a lower output than needed without realising and he saw the battery meter needle on the dash would drop after starting and then take some time to get back up to the mid point. Various makes have been fitted but it looks as if Valeo ones use a number to indicate the output - 15 or 14 is 150 amp, 8 or 9 is 90 amp and 12 is 120 amp. The parts diagrams show the diode plate and regulator are available if you want to repair your alternator but from Citroen it looks as if the cost of either is more than an alternator from eurocarparts. When trying to find one, it may help to use any part nos. on your existing alternator or to use the Citroen part no. which you can get using your VIN (VIS) in the parts diagrams. You can see the parts diagrams as a free service on the service.citroen site if you register as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp . You may need to select your language at the lower right. This site includes part nos. against their alternators http://stores.ebay.co.uk/alternators-and-startermotors-uk/alternators-/_i.html?_fsub=3&_nkw=Citroen+C5+C5
  4. Welcome to the forum. Which model C5 is it - 2004 to 2008 or 2008 on and which engine do you need - size/petrol/diesel and engine code (or post the letters from the car VIN which include the code ? There may be members on here who have an unwanted engine and may be able to help or suggest a supplier. I have included C5 in the topic title to help.
  5. Welcome to the forum. Until recent years I always had old cars, spent most weekends fixing them but at the same time learnt a lot.
  6. I can not give a direct answer other than suggest you look at the Citroen parts diagrams, find the part no. for your van using the VIN (VIS) and search the parts site to see which others may use the same parts. You can also use the Citroen part no. when searching the internet. The diagrams can be seen as a free service on the service.citroen site by registering as another professional and a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres
  7. It sounds as if the fuel tank needs a new level gauge inside the tank. They can wear over time so when the level is at the worn part of the gauge it fails to show anything. If you look on the eurocarparts site it will give you an idea of the parts cost. Depending on the car, most give access to the fuel gauge under the rear seat through a rubber cover to the tank. If the doors immediately unlock when trying to lock them, it means one of the doors/boot is not fully closed, or is not being seen as closed. I think there may be a sensor in each lock that indicates if that door is closed. I am not sure about this, but you could try each door/boot lock by using a screwdriver to close that lock (push the bar in to the lock hook) but whilst keeping the door/boot open. Unlocking will release the screwdriver. This may indicate where the problem is. Or you may get a message on the dash which says which door is not closed. If the locks seem to work as normal then it may be the door/boot catch needs adjusting so it can close.
  8. We have a 2011 1.6 hdi C4 and the brakes on it are keen, needing little pedal effort to stop it and if pushed quickly the car will stop quickly. However, since you have tried another similar car there may be something not right, possibly a brake service would help (remove/clean everything/check the discs). If not doing the work yourself I would go back to the garage/dealer and tell them you have tried another car. You could look at the brake discs through the wheels and from the back to see if they are rusty/corroded which may be causing them to bite more than usual - noting your car is a low mileage it may be the discs need replacing due to not being used much and corroding. It is also likely the brakes will not have been serviced/cleaned so the pads may have seized and not be able to move freely/smoothly when applying the brakes. I recently serviced the brakes on our car - the rears were cleaned (had been squeaking a bit before indicating sticking a bit) but the fronts needed new pads and discs since they had worn out (44K miles).
  9. Haynes did say some cars have a cable but others may be electronic. I replaced the electric pedal on our 2003 C3 since it did not smoothly increase in revs as it was gradually pressed from tickover and made setting off difficult - you could watch your rev counter to see if with the car stationary the revs can be increased smoothly.
  10. Welcome to the forum.
  11. Before replacing any parts, I think you would be best to get a Citroen diagnostic check, other wise just replacing parts as you have found will cost more until the problem is found. However, the following are some things to consider: - How many miles has the car done ? - When you checked the injectors was this doing a flow check ? - You could check service items like spark plugs and the air filter in case they need replacing and also for any air leaks in the air filter to manifold ducting and in any hoses on sensors. - You could check if the accelerator pedal cable has excess free play in it and needs adjusting. A diagnostic check would be needed to see if the electronic side of it is ok. - Is it using any oil which could indicate a worn engine ? You could consider a compression test but the spark plug colour would probably indicate if there was a valve seating problem. - You could also check the engine timing in case the belt has jumped or if replaced it was not installed properly. - It has hydraulic tappets so unless they are noisy these are probably ok. - The air flow is measured using a MAP sensor on the front of the inlet manifold so you could see if this is blocked up with oil/carbon. - To check the inlet air temperature sensor (on the throttle housing) would need a diagnostic check. Similarly the engine coolant temperature. To check what parts your car has you could look at the Citroen parts diagrams using your VIN (VIS) if you register on the service.citroen site as another professional and a member of the CItroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres
  12. A link to the same topic started by Howiec http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/21596-low-engine-oil-pressure-warning/
  13. What is the problem with your lock - does it work using the dash button (if there is one) ?
  14. Welcome to the forum. Good luck with the repairs and let us know how you get on..
  15. My first thoughts are a caliper piston is seized/sticking and when you pushed it in to fit new pads a damaged/rusty/dirty part of the piston caused it to stick even more. If you did not use new calipers when the old were replaced, then these could also have the same problem. A bit more travel on the pedal after the work could be air still in the system or because the brakes are now free to move - but if you got air in the abs pump/valve system then it probably needs Lexia diagnostic equipment to bleed the air out. Is it just one brake (you sometimes mention the driver's front and other times it is not clear) that binds or a front and opposite rear or both front or all 4 brakes ? If not sure, when it is binding, undo that brake bleed nipple to release the fluid pressure - if this then releases the brake you know it is fluid/pressure related and not a mechanical problem such as a sticking caliper piston. Were the replacement parts all new ones or did you use second hand ones ? Could you move the caliper pistons in by hand without needing to use a clamp ? When you replaced the pads/discs were all the pads worn equally ? Was there any wear on the caliper /pads support brackets that could be causing the pads to not move easily ? If it was a servo fault then I would think that would affect all 4 brakes, but if the brakes are stuck on you could try disconnecting its vacuum hose to see if it releases the brakes without having to touch the pedal.
  16. On the photo in Haynes, the egr valve is at the front left top corner of the cylinder head with a cylindrical dome cover on it and an electrical connector. If the valve is missing then possibly it has been removed and a blanking plate installed. There is a picture of one here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuel-Parts-EGR107-EGR-Valve/dp/B0088CAP4I
  17. If you test drive the Cactus, make sure you try going round a few bends in case the high up position makes you sea sick. Is this the first time in recent years Citroen have chosen to come up with a name for a car instead of a number ?
  18. Welcome to the forum. We have a sister forum specifically for the Picasso which you should join since and I think you will get far more relevant help http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/
  19. You can select the car language using the Menu button on the radio, but when buying a car check that it will do the language you need.
  20. According to the Haynes manual, the egr valve is located on the front left hand side of the cylinder head (gearbox end). To remove it Haynes says to remove the engine cover, disconnect the egr valve wiring plug, release the egr valve to inlet manifold pipe clamp, undo the 2 nuts and pull the valve out and recover the gasket which should be renewed. The egr valve may just need cleaning.
  21. WakeyTiger, welcome to the forum. Thankyou for your comments on the 1.6 hdi egr valve and cutting out which I have now included in the C5 Technical section Common Problems pinned post.
  22. Welcome to the forum. The first code relates to the glow plugs so can be ignored unless it is struggling to start. The second 2 probably are both related to the air flow meter between the air filter and the engine and these will put the eml on as well as likely put the car in to limp mode limiting its performance. You could check its electrical connector and try cleaning it internally by spraying with carburettor cleaner but you may need to get a new one. Also look for any air leaks. An internet check on P3007 also gave camshaft sensor no signal but try the flow meter first, clear the codes and see if any come back.
  23. I had the estate high level brake light full of water, removed it and tried to remove the red lens so I could seal it. However, the lens broke up and I had to get a new light (about £60) which I sealed with black silicone before fitting. There is also a design fault with some cars where this light glows faintly until the car bsi shuts down - the fix is to solder in a resistor across its terminals but the space to do this is small so I have not bothered. To remove the light the spoiler has to be removed first, but follow Haynes and put a cloth over the back of the roof to avoid scratches. There may be some notes on this in the Common Problems pinned post. The diagnostic check should tell you what is faulty but for the air bag one you could look for a loose connector under a seat and try the child seat passenger air bag switch. The depollution system fault could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions. If your car is the 2.2 hdi, have a look at the gearbox end of the cylinder head for the swirl flap actuator - it has a plastic ball joint that breaks and a new part ( called a diaphragm) is about £20 and you only need to swap the plastic socket part if the rest of it works. For the door mirror, try manually moving it and then using the door switch to see if it positions it properly - on our C4 something like this happened when we got it back after the MOT and I suspect it may have been knocked but this sorted it (there was a grinding noise whilst doing it but nothing broke off).
  24. It would pay you to get a copy of the Haynes manual for your car. In one for the Xsara Picasso which if it is similar, it shows the interior lights have a fuse in the interior fuse box, fuse 8, 10 amp. I would also check the bulbs are in good condition - it shows a screwdriver being used to lever off the light lens. This fuse box is shown located at the right end of the dash below a couple of switches and the cover needs to be pulled off - if it is not here it will likely be in the glove box behind a panel. It does not show a fuse for the central locking but you could look in the fuse box for any blown fuses. Is the central locking not working when just using the remote key buttons and still working if you use a key in the door lock or if the switch on the dash is used (if there is one) ?
  25. To show a photo on the site it needs to be on another site such as photobucket and then a link to it can be included in the post.
