The temp sensor is the same, in the housing at the end of the cylinder head. It is held in place by a clip and has a seal. The fan is supposed to cut in at 97°C and out at 94°C, with a high temp warning at 118°C and cut off of the air con at 115°C. The fan has a relay in the loom at the fan, it is probably not faulty since the fan stops after 30 seconds - if it was sticking the fan would probably not stop. Chances are you need a new sensor so plugging one in as a test is probably the lowest cost to get a diagnosis since a garage/dealer may charge £50 upwards just to do one. You can get a decent enough code reader with some live data for about this so is something to consider as a useful tool if you do your own diy on your car. for example http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GCR25_16.html#product_information The live data is limited but if you want to look at all the car's data you need a dealer type Lexia. What area are you in since some members on here have diagnostic equipment and have said they are willing to help others and there is a pinned post on one of the C5 sections.

Welcome to the forum. If you have the aircon switched on, try turning it off to see of this makes a difference. The cooling fan has to run if the aircon is on. If it is the 2004 to 2008 C5 version, according to the Haynes manual, the engine temperature sensor is in the coolant outlet housing at the left end of the cylinder head. This is the only temperature sensor on the coolant and is used for the temperature gauge, cooling fan and engine ecu. If it is indicating a high value then these other things will also be affected. If you have a code reader that also gives live data, you will be able to see what temperature the sensor thinks it is and then decide if it is faulty and needs replacing. A new sensor will only be about £20 so if you do not have access to a code reader you could just get one and plug it in to the electrical connector as a test and see if the fan goes off - if so it needs changing.

You will probably find the wires run from the lights across the roof to the left side. If so to access/see them the headlining will need to be lowered slightly at the door opening - but if doing this it may be easier to just run a couple of wires across the roof tucked under the door seal (or even across the rear of the boot and behind any plastic trim) to the left side and then you know what you are doing and it is likely to be quicker for you. In post 4, Lapin 127 says the feed from the O/S indicator is taken over the top under the edge of the headlining and down the C-pillar. This reads as if a new wire may have been run. It does not mention the fog light.
-
Does it need much doing/expense or is it useable already ?
-
Welcome to the forum. Has this just started to happen, did you use the fog lights earlier in the day ? Fog lights normally can not be switched on if the engine is not running, so it must have a wiring fault or a relay has stuck on to provide a permanent 12 volt supply to the light. Since the car is under warranty it has to go back to the dealer. Our C4 it has cornering lights so that when turning the fog light on the inside of the corner will come on - I could not find anything in the C3 handbook on this but on the C4 it is programmed on/off through the menu on the radio. It only works when the engine is running and the fog lights can only be switched on when the engine is running.

Thankyou for getting back to us and luckily the repair was not too expensive. Access to the fuel tank fuel pump/level gauge is by lifting the rear seat, possibly a bit of carpet and then removing a round cover. You should then be able to see if the leak is from that area.

A Few Questions About Mk3 Tourer - Buying
paul.h replied to kaliope's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
The new C5 may be prone to steering rack leaks - where the supply and return pipes join the rack. It does not appear to be easy to fix and just replacing the seals does not work. Also Citroen do not sell the seals separately from the pipes. See http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20872-power-steering-leaking-fluid/?do=findComment&comment=75684 -
This is the other post by jefflad, he has not been back since 1st October so I do not know what happened. Looks as if the leak is from the same location, where the pipes join the rack. http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20370-power-steering-issues/ so it may be a common problem. You would think then that Citroen would sell the seals unless there is more to it than just seal replacement. I have sent a message to jefflad to see if he has sorted the leak.

An extra thought on this - it has not rained this week whilst you have had the car, so it was like this before the dealer gave you the car and they most likely will know what has happened.

Welcome to the forum as a member. With your experience any help you can give will be appreciated and if you do not mind, a report on the new C5 would be good. A list of the issues on your 2.2 hdi would be useful for the Common Problems post in the C5 Technical section.

Electronic stability programme / anti slip regulation (traction control) use the abs wheel sensors to check the wheel speeds and if needed slightly apply or release one or more brakes on a wheel and they may also affect the engine to help bring the car back under control to help prevent skids/wheel spin. Details will be in the handbook. If a warning message has come on then possibly it has been switched off (ESP button) or has a fault. If switched off it should come back on when the car is restarted. It is also possible the abs fault light may be on. If the warning does not clear you can check the abs sensors/targets to see if they are clean and any wiring. However, it may need a diagnostic check to see what is wrong, using a dealer type Lexia or a code reader that can read Citroen abs fault codes.

Welcome to the forum. According to the handbooks on the service.citroen site, the left and right hand dipped beams have separate fuses and similarly the main beams. If the fuses are all ok you need to check for 12 volts at the fuses and then at the bulb electrical connectors with the lights on. Also check the earth connection from the bulb connector to the body is continuous. Depending on what you find should point you to look for possibly a wiring problem.

Welcome to the forum. This does not sound right on a new car. Possibly a door seal, a boot seal or rear light seal is not on right or if there is a sun roof this is leaking, or a window has not been closed or broken - or maybe it has been stood in deep water and hence the tide marks. The problem will be in drying it out - the carpets and sound proofing will all need removing and possibly replacing (they may smell/rot/be contaminated) and there may be wiring/electrical problems. I would be very tempted to consider asking for a replacement car. If you do not mind, I have slightly changed the topic title so the problem is more obvious to other members and may attract more replies.

The glow plug light is possibly different to other warning lights in that the glowplugs come on in the ignition position (if they are needed) and the light is to tell you to start the engine when it goes off. You may have to wait until a very cold day before you see the glow plug light. It has not started to show on my C5 yet (2007 2.2 hdi). I do not think they are needed until the weather is near freezing, or maybe they are not on long enough for the light to show to tell you when to start it.

Just tried a google search on those engine codes. The first is a Volvo one and the second a Ford one, hopefully somebody on here may be able to advise if they will fit a Citroen.

Damsel In Distress. Can You Knights Diagnose A Rumble For Me Please?
paul.h replied to EliseClara's topic in C2 - Technical
Welcome to the forum. It does sound as though it is a wheel bearing. To check which wheel it is, jack it up and spin the wheel, the worn bearing may be heard or feel a bit rough when turning. Also try rocking the wheel holding its top and bottom and see if there is any play. After using the car the hub may also be a bit warmer than the other ones. A new front one on the eurocarparts website is about £60 (if the car has abs) and fitting time is supposed to be about 2 hours (diy a lot more) giving in the order of £200 if you need to pay somebody to do it. To fit it requires the brake caliper, brake disc and wheel hub, and hub carrier to be removed so the bearing can be pressed out and replaced. To get a price I would phone a few dealers/garages, ones you or friends have used before and can trust. Citroen dealers are not necessarily dearer than smaller garages since they are used to the car, will have any special tools (if needed), so should be able to do a job quickly. -
Welcome to the forum. Have a look on the C5 section, Tecnical subsection and Common Problems post, there is something there that may help with the window problem.

It will need plugging in to a dealer type Lexia to read faults on the suspension system, an ordinary code reader will only read engine codes. The post with the pump that ran when earthed is here http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/20241-c5-suspension-pump-fault/

From my own experience the C5 is one of the best cars for pulling a caravan with its self leveling suspension. If you do not yet have a towbar this forum is a good place for advice, many of us have fit our own.

Thanks for getting back with such a simple fix - I have added it to the Common Problems post in the Technical Section. -

The parts diagrams show glow plugs. To check your car you need to use your vin and look under Electric unit, Engine electricity, Pre-heating. If you have not yet registered on the service.citroen site to see the diagrams, you can do this as another professional and member of the Citroen Owners Club. You could also have a look under the bonnet if the weather warms up. The most recent C5 handbook on the service.citroen site is for 1/6/2012 on and it shows a glow plug symbol on page 37 - is your handbook a more recent version ?

A quick internet search against these fault codes suggest a new gearbox actuator may be needed.
-
Welcome to the forum. According to the fault codes listed on here on the Petrol Diesel & LPG injection section - P0750 is Shift Solenoid A Malfunction - P1755 Intermediate Speed Sensor (ISS) Malfunction I do not yet know what these mean but they seem to point to the gearbox/its controls. Do the same faults appear when you start the car or is it just when your boyfriend does it - maybe he is not following a correct starting procedure that will be in the handbook ?

Welcome to the forum. Which engine is it ? Haynes says the coolant temp sensor is fitted to the coolant housing on the left hand end of the cylinder head for the engines it covers. It does not mention a second sensor. If you have a code reader that does live data you could see what temp the sensor is giving and this may help indicate if it is a sensor or maybe a wiring problem or a display problem. Are you having any engine running problems since this uses the temp sensor ? There is a Haynes manual now for the C4 which you may find useful. It covers petrol 1.4 and 1.6 litre, diesel 1.6 and 2.0 litre but not 1.6 litre THP turbo, 2.0 petrol, 2.0 SOHC diesel or the Picasso or the C4 from 2011.
