  1. Looks as if removal of the dpf filter is not an option, see the pinned post on the C5 technical section. From Feb 2014 it will be an MOT fail if it has been removed.
  2. I tried the number plate on eurocarparts site to see what spec the car was, being right hand drive, but the number was not recognised. A close look at the photo shows it has been imposed so probably not a real number.
  3. This should be a good boost for petrol car sales if looking to buy a higher mileage car. Looks as though now any recommendations to remove the dpf can no longer be made. I will pin this topic so it is not lost.
  4. I would go along with coastline on this, there seems to be a few things wrong which may not be easy to sort. I had a look in the RTA manual for the car which has some wiring diagrams covering major things like the engine, heating and exterior lights but there is nothing like the number you have given. Maybe there are some more numbers hidden by the tape around the wires. A magnifying glass helps to read the wire numbers. In the Haynes for the earlier model C5s, the 3000 numbers are used for interior wiring so maybe the plug could be something to do with this, possibly an option that is not on your car but still check if all the lights are working.
  5. If you have climate control the flaps are operated by electric motors located on both sides of the air con unit. To get to them you need to look up from the footwells - in this case just the passenger one. It may need part of the trim removing to do this and a mirror and torch will help. If a flap is the problem, it could be the electrical connector is not in place on a motor. Maybe you can hear the flaps move when you change the air flow direction. If you do not have climate control maybe a duct is not in place.
  6. In the Maintenance and Warranty Guide that came with our 2007 C5, for the C4 petrol it gives 100000 miles or 10 years whichever is first for the timing belt. For severe conditions it gives 72000 miles or 10 years. As John has said, it is better to replace early rather than late so maybe you need to allow for changing it in the next year. You will only be doing it once in the life of the car so to do it sooner removes the future worry that it may snap and severely damage the engine and you get more years benefit out of it. As well as the belt and water pump, the tensioner will also be replaced and if there are any pulleys I would do these as well. Same applies to the auxiliary belt since it is removed to get at the timing belt. On our C3 the timing belt top cover was easy to remove, only 2 bolts. I removed the cover each year to check the belt was in good condition and not in danger of failing - this is something you could do if it is easy on the C4. About £300 is right, a Citroen dealer will charge about this, but on top will be the extras - water pump, anti freeze, pulleys (the tensioner will be included), the aux belt. 2 years ago I replaced the timing belt etc on our 1.4 C3 petrol (75 hp) and the parts from Citroen were - timing belt and tensioner £63 - water pump £57 - 3 litres anti freeze £14 - aux belt £17 - aux belt 2 pulleys £116 - Total hence £267, no labour cost since it was a diy job. The parts may be cheaper elsewhere but I usually prefer ones from Citroen knowing they will be right. For a part synthetic oil, I would look to change it annually rather the Citroen 2 year frequency.
  7. Welcome to the forum. There is a Haynes workshop manual for the 2004 to 2010 C4 which covers the 1.4 petrol engine and would be worth you getting. Most services cover engine oil and filter replacement, air filter replacement, cabin pollen filter replacement, brake fluid change every 2 years, fill the washer fluid bottle, tyres and pressure check, lots of visual checks - these will make up the '67' points. If you want the brakes cleaning that is normally an extra. The specific service items for your car will be in the maintenance and Warranty Guide booklet that came with your car. The car service mileage indicator should be reset, it not done it tells you in the handbook how to do it - hold down a button on the dash, then switch on the ignition (do not start the engine) and then it will reset to =0, then release the button. If you search on Halfords 67 point service it comes up with this - https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ACArticleDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=11602&catalogId=19255&categoryId=276263&articleId=975567 which lists what is done. The oil filter is at the front right of the engine looking from the front of the car. It is a paper element replaced inside a plastic body, so the only indication you may have that it has been replaced, may be oil on the outside of the plastic body. If you use the oil dipstick you may find the oil looks clean. Since the normal service is 20000 miles or 2 years, it should be a fully synthetic oil and in our previous C3 petrol the oil always looked clean between services. The air filter is located in a plastic housing between the engine and battery. To check it has been replaced needs the housing to be completely removed from the engine and then the top removed and the filter removed to see if the underside is clean - the top can not be removed just by undoing the visible screws since there are 2 at the back. The normal service interval for replacement is 4 years or 40000 miles. I think it highly unlikely the filters will not have been replaced and to check effectively requires you to do the job yourself - in this case you may as well have done the service yourself. If you have not replaced the pollen filter in the last 2 years it should be done. If it is blocked it will restrict air flow in to the car and may put a strain on the blower and its electrics (the Xsara Picasso is known for this and can damage the ignition switch). It is easy to replace and is located at the back of the engine bay behind part of the sound proofing on the left side (looking from the front of the car).
  8. On the steaming up - can you get warm air to blow through the vents to these areas without the air con on and does the air smell of anti freeze (a bit like burnt curry) ? A lack of air flow or warm air could be a direction or heater flap not working and a smell if any, could be some anti freeze spilt and not cleaned up/dried - or it could be a leak at the passenger side of the heating system - matrix/pipe joint. I had a Saab heater matrix that leaked a bit and that caused the windscreen to steam up. I can not help with the other bits but on the plug, if you can read the numbers on the wires it may help somebody with access to a wiring diagram.
  9. Try the spare key in case it is a key problem. Otherwise it may be a fault with the immobiliser transponder located at the ignition switch. These are only a few pounds from a dealer if it needs replacing.
  10. The following is a list of things to be configured, taken for a mark 2 C5 2.2 hdi estate as an example. Your lack of sound may be due to these but I am not sure. Others on here have tried updates before but not mentioned the lack of sound afterwards. 6.2. 11. Your best option will be to get the fault code read and then clear the engine management light. This should give you a good indication of what is wrong. Otherwise it will be a case of guessing what is wrong and maybe replacing parts that are not at fault until you find the right one. You can get a fault code reader for less than the cost of a garage diagnostic check (from such as Gendan) but if your car is pre 2004 you need to check it will work since diesels were only EOBD compliant from then. One possibility though could be a blocked fuel filter or something that has caused the engine to go in to limp mode. It is probably not the battery if it is still able to spin the engine to start it and a low voltage is more likely to give a SERVICE message or depending on the car year, a few beeps on starting. I have moved the topic into a subforum since ones outside will not show after a few days and are then difficult to find.
  12. When you replaced the comms 2000 unit did you re-use the old air bag since the igniter will be inside the airbag ?
  13. Left side when sat in the car and looking out the front windscreen. Offside/nearside I prefer not to use since members may not be in the UK.
  14. The parts diagrams for the 90 hp 2.0 hdi only shows the priming pump with a Siemens filter and not with the Bosch one. For the 110 hp 2.0 hdi it only shows Bosch and Mahle filters, both without a priming pump. But another look at the fuel tank level gauge shows some of them have an electric priming/lift pump as part of the level gauge and some do not - to see which applies here the car vin would need to be used. Now if there should be a pump, I would have a look/listen to see if it is working and check the handbook for a possible fuse that may have blown. You can also check for a 12 volt supply at the in tank pump, I think by lifting the back seat base and removing a rubber cover to see the top of the level gauge. There was recently somebody on here whose in tank pump had failed on a Xsara Picasso so it is something that does happen. One of their checks may have been to see if fuel was pumped to the filter. To check your own car parts diagrams you need to register on the service.citroen website, as another professional and a member of the CItroen Owners Club. The parts diagrams are free to see and the tank gauge/pump can be seen under Mechanical, Engine, Air and fuel supply, Fuel tank fuel gauge. Depending on the above, this may also be worth a try, from the Citroen manual, but it may give a fault code although it does not mention it - 4. Injection system BOSCH4.1. Checking the pressure sensor on the fuel high pressure common injection rail, DW10/DW12 engines (absence of engine starting)Disconnect the connector of the fuel high pressure sensor (located under the fuel high pressure injection rail).Operate the starter :The engine starts : Replace the fuel high pressure sensorThe engine will not start : Continue the checking
  15. The ones I was thinking of are in the rear footwells, possibly covered by mats if you have them. Also check the spare wheel has a locking device which goes through the middle of the wheel into the boot floor - without one the wheel cradle can be cut and the wheel easily stolen. Our local Citroen dealer is good but on older cars without a warranty I would tend to do things myself. There is a Haynes manual for the Picasso which is worth buying.

    Keys

Welcome to the forum. 1 remote and 1 key is the norm for Citroen. You could order a second remote, cost around £100, but probably it would never be used. With the key, access to the car is using a door lock and if there is an alarm, it would be turned off as the engine was started. It will say in the handbook somewhere how to lock the other doors when using the key. You may find the remote case wears over time and often a new case can be obtained at low cost from such as ebay and the internals from the old remote are put in the new case (circuit board, immobiliser chip, key blade). I have not yet seen one for a 2010 C3 though.
  17. A quick look at the parts diagrams does not show a hand primer pump and there is not a lift pump in the fuel tank (edited - however, see later post since some do have an in tank pump). So it looks as if the filter/pump should be self priming. However, if there is any wear in the fuel pump (or an air leak in the piping) it may be a reason for it struggling. If possible, it may help if the filter could be filled with diesel - either by removing the top and pouring some in, or using a vacuum pump/syringe to suck some in through one of the connections - maybe the water drain to avoid disturbing the top again but this would leave the filter still full of air.
  18. A few ideas to consider - - something stuck to the exhaust like a plastic bag or maybe an oil leak on to it - a leaking fuel injector cylinder head seal - if you lift the bonnet you may hear a chuffing noise or see carbon around an injector - a leaking pipe around the engine - egr valve problem - check its pipe connection if vacuum operated - a problem with the turbo - how many miles has it done ? - how many miles since the air and diesel filters were changed ?
  19. The connections under a front seat may not be tight. With the key out of the ignition, try them and make sure they are pushed together fully.
  20. According to the 2001 to 2008 C5 Haynes manual, the horns are located at the front end of the vehicle and are accessed by removing the front bumper. It looks as if it is at the left side, a bit below the headlight so in the wheel arch side of the inner wing at the front. I am not sure, but it may be possible to get to it by removing the undershield in that corner. There are 2 horns, one with a high note and one with a low note, with different parts nos. Later I will move this topic to the C5 Technical subforum.

  22. Almost sounds a bit like turbo lag that can happen on some cars - turbo does not kick in until engine revs reach say 2000 rpm. However, I do not know if the C5 2.0 hdi is known to suffer from this, our C5 is a 2.2 hdi. Also a bit as if the accelerator pedal electrics are worn - the diagnostic could check for this or try slowly increasing the revs and seeing if they increase gradually as the pedal is pressed. Maybe when the engine is cold the fuel mix would be a bit richer so could mask another problem. Engine management systems are supposed to adapt to driving styles so maybe a bsi reset might help - see what others have to say on this. When I have cleaned our C5 front brakes, the pads (Citroen ones with the coating) have been stuck in by the dust at the ends in the calipers so would not be free enough to rattle. I always use copper grease on the back when refitting though to help prevent squeal. I did have a rattle on a C3 which was an anti roll bar drop link that had worn at the joints.
  23. John.A.S - do you keep your car in a garage overnight. It may not be relevant but if so it would be warmish on starting up (like summer conditions) but then once out in the cold the fuel etc would cool down. Just thinking about the BBC report - it may be worth trying fuel from a different supplier than BP in case their bio-diesel level is high. How many miles has the car done ?
  24. Haynes shows a picture on page 12.20 of the knee air bag, located below the base of the steering column shroud, a bit to the side, next to the central console. I have read the above differently to your last post. Level 1 and 2 only applies to the steering wheel and passenger front air bags. They can be inflated at 2 different rates depending on the severity of a crash. Rate level 1 is for a less severe crash and rate level 2 for a worse crash. In both cases though both igniters go off for safety but in level 1, they go off together and in level 2 there is a time gap between them. From this your 'the error is "Driver's level 2 airbag igniter open circuit"' I see as meaning the steering wheel air bag has a problem with its second igniter. Hence in a severe crash, it would not inflate as quick as it should. It may need a new steering wheel air bag to fix it. With the air bag warning on, it may be the air bag system is disabled but I am not sure.
  25. Welcome to the forum. What year is the car and the engine size ? Has the tyre pressure warning now been fixed by the valve change since it is not clear from your post ? The permanent bulb lit on the dash, is that the triangular one for the ESP/ASR (electronic stability program / anti slip regulation) ? Are you using a Citroen dealer for the work with Lexia diagnostic equipment or is it an independant garage trying part replacements in the hope of getting the fix right ? Was the new Comms 2000 unit programmed to your car - it would have needed the steering sensor to be set up using a Lexia - this is an input to the ESP/ASR so could be the cause of the latest problem.
