  1. Welcome to the forum. I have not seen a Xantia dash but it could be a high temperature warning. Is there a temperature gauge and if so did that go high at the same time. If it is temperature then you should check the coolant level, look for any leaks if the level is low including the water pump. Also check if the thermostat is working by seeing if the radiator top hose is hot once the engine has warmed up. You can also check the radiator for any external blockages/damage that restricts the air flow. It is also possible and most likely since this is a common thing on Citroens, the temperature sensor on the cylinder head/thermostat housing (not sure yet where it is) is faulty and reading high but you could also check its wiring and connector.

  3. When we got our latest C4 I had trouble filling it up. Inside the filler is a spring loaded cap that the diesel nozzle has to push back as it is inserted and if not done with the right technique the fuel pump keeps cutting out. It took me a long time to do the first fill before I got the hang of it.
  4. This sounds as if it should be a good car. Since it is only 3 years old it will have been serviced at a dealer, so you should be able to go to a Skoda dealer and get the service history from them. It will also have a new MOT and you can check the MOT history on line using the car number plate and make https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history
  5. Welcome to the forum. If the vent direction is via a rotary switch then maybe the cable has come off the back of the switch or lever at the heater.
  6. If you are having to pay for the code resetting then it will be cheaper to buy your own code reader and if you get one that does some live data it will help you when checking for faults. If the code is for the exhaust lambda sensors or catalyst, then looking at live data the inlet lambda sensor should be constantly switching around one and the outlet lambda sensor should be constant - if this one is switching then the cat probably needs replacing. It does not say much for the garage if they do not have an idea what the fault is, you may be better using a Citroen dealer. An example of a code reader with live data https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html The cause of the fault could be anything including spark plugs, ignition cassette, cat, cam sensor, etc. Even a faulty battery (low voltage) can sometimes cause problems.
  7. I am not familiar with either of these cars but in general you should check that everything works on a car and check the service history. Even things like the tyres should be checked so they do not need replacing too soon - new tread depth is usually about 7mm, giving about 5 mm wear before needing replacing which could typically be about 20k miles.

  9. If you do not have halogen headlights, if the headlights are shining at a wall, are both light patterns moving up and down or just one, or neither but you can still hear the noise ? On the dash is there a head light height adjuster switch - if so and if it is used do both headlights adjust up and down ? Cutting a wire or removing a fuse is probably not the right way to fix it since the height adjuster really needs to work for the MOT.
  10. If there is a sensor in the seat to say when it is occupied then maybe it is too sensitive/faulty. You could always connect the seat belt and this would stop the warning until it is sorted. Or possibly putting something like a book on the seat base to give a bit of clearance between the base and back rest when folded may work. You might also look for any wiring damage or connectors that are loose under the seat.

Autotrader is a good place to start searching http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ and then you could look at the car manufacturers websites since if like the Citroen one, will let you search for a used car. The better quality cars tend to be sold by main dealers such as a Ford dealer if wanting a Ford, rather than smaller dealers. They also tend to provide better warranties but the cars may cost more. Some large national dealers may not display the true cost to buy a car - 3 years ago we were looking to buy a C3 from Evans Halshaw. They had a suitable car but then we found they would not move on the windscreen price, a few problems with the car would not be fixed, the warranty was only 3 months (compared to at least 1 year at a full Citroen dealer, even though EH were a Citroen dealer) but longer could be bought - so we walked away and found a car at a proper Citroen dealer with the Citroen used/approved warranty.
  12. I think the 1.6 hdi engine is the same as the one in the Citroen cars so it can suffer from similar problems, especially the early turbo failure. You may find that since the Mondeo is a big car the 1.6 may be a bit under powered so you would need to give it a good test to see if you are happy with it. 112k miles is a lot so you would need to check the service history such as dpf changes, clutch/dmf replacement, oil changes using the correct oils, anything else. Also check for rust since Fords can rust as they get older. I do not have any experience of hybrid cars, so I can not help on this. There will probably be forums like this one but for the Mondeo and the Peugeot. If possible you may be better trying for cars on far lower mileages than these unless you are paying next to nothing. For £6000 to £7000 I would be trying to get a car on about 20k miles and maybe about 3 years old. You have just sold a car that gave you a lot of problems and the last thing you need is another one with a lot of problems.

  14. I think you would be better getting the springs from a Citroen dealer, obviously the copy parts are not right, even though they are a lot cheaper. You can see the Citroen parts diagrams as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Once on the site use your car VIN (VIS) top left to find your car and then look under mechanical, suspension front springs to find the parts. I suspect though there will be a few options for the springs but then use the colours on your existing springs to get the right ones. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres you may need to select your language first. If you try used struts/springs from another car and they are not the same colour then you may find the car handles a bit differently. Using the parts diagrams though you could check if the struts, etc are the same from the donor car. I once tried copy springs for a Saab, possibly from eurocarparts and the car was not right after that, so I have learnt from my own experience. Citroen seem to have a policy of replacing springs that break sooner than you would expect and we asked at our local dealer when they broke on our cars. The dealer then contacted Citroen and got approval to replace them at no cost to us. Your car may be too old but the mileage is not too high at about 30k but it could be worth asking. You would need to take the car to the dealer though for the work doing so it would mean fitting the old bits back and then it may be difficult since it would be obvious work had already been done on the car..
  15. Welcome to the forum. Which engine does the car have, petrol, diesel, bhp and what wheel size does it have, does it have air con or a sunroof since they all use different springs - coil thickness, strength and number of coils. What colours do the existing springs have marked on them ? Your car may be a bit old now but Citroen will replace coil springs that break without charge. We had front ones on a 2003 C3 and rear ones on a 2010 C3 replaced by the Citroen dealer without needing to pay. Did you buy the single one from the Citroen dealer using the car VIN to get the right one ? Also Citroen springs are colour coded and you need to replace them with ones with the same colour markings on them. The part number you quote I do not recognise, all the springs on the Citroen parts diagrams are 5002 and then 2 letters, unless they have recently been changed. When people lower cars I think they use springs that are shorter rather than longer, I just suspect the parts you are trying to fit are the wrong ones. Possibly if using the number plate to get them is not the best way and the VIN should be used along with the colour code.
  16. According to the parts diagrams the washer jet part at the end that moves out is a separate part to the pipe/support bit with the hose fastened to it. So possibly it justs needs removing and cleaning/unblocking. I do not know how you remove the jets, maybe you catch them whilst they are extended and twist them or something. You may need to be careful not to damage the jet covers, I vaguely remember john douglas posting something on this but he does not come on the forum now but a search might find something.

Thankyou for letting us know, I suppose selling the car was one way of fixing all the problems for you and I was starting to think it was getting old and the problems were building up - at this point most people would be thinking of changing a car.   19. This is from the C5 technical section pinned common problems topic and may help 37. New C5 (X7) window regulator cables break. I have read that the cables can rust and break. Replacement cables are readily available through such as ebay and possibly Citroen giving a low cost repair. This fault has now appeared on the forum - see this topic by Shane Peet http://www.citroen-o...ndow-regulator/ P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1) I am not sure but possibly it is the exhaust inlet lambda sensor. If your code reader does live data see if this sensor is constantly switching around 1.0, if not then it may need replacing.
  20. Welcome to the forum. Window regulator failure is a common problem on the C5 X7 and repair kits are available. To find out what the depollution system fault is will need the fault code reading since it could be anything that can affect the exhaust emissions.
  21. We've not had seat heaters on our C4s, so possibly it was an option for your car. Checks would be the fuses, look in the handbook which it could be. Then a wiring fault, then the switch and then maybe the heater element inside the seat could be broken or its thermostat.
  22. If it is the inner track rod joint that is worn, then the full track rod would be replaced but also make sure the track rod end is done since they do not cost much and the labour is already paid for to do the track rod and the tracking. To check a track rod end, I find the easiest way is to have the wheels on the ground, the ignition key in the ignition switch but not turned, so that the steering lock does not come on, then wrap your hand around the track rod and then get somebody to waggle the steering wheel - if there is any wear/play in the joint it can be felt. You can also just waggle the steering wheel about an inch and see if the wheels move at the same time as a rough check. The brake discs at the front of your car will be 26 mm thick when new with a minimum of 24 mm when they should be replaced, so at 25 mm they should last a couple of years (depending on how you drive/brake). The rear discs are 9 mm thick new and need replacing when down to 7 mm. So it looks as if the front discs and pads were replaced before you got the car, maybe around 20k miles ago. If you have the service record for the car it may include the brakes.
  23. I do not know where they get their labour estimate from, the 1 hour I suggested is from the Citroen service box procedures. They must be estimating about 3 hours at £265. They must be replacing more than just the pipe and LDS fluid top up at £280. Why not wait as the car is repaired to see how long it takes. The videos seem to be normal now for Citroen dealers when they check a car so you can see the things they find.
  24. Brilliant outcome. The head gasket has a rubber seal in it for the oil way and these perish and leak oil out. As recommended you can probably live with it as long as it is slight and does not leak into the coolant or reduce the oil pressure so the engine becomes noisy.
  25. If you do not have a volt meter I would get one since this will enable you to check the battery and then you will know if it is the problem, rather than guessing. If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3: - remove the ignition key from the car - open the bonnet - wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down - disconnect the battery negative terminal When reconnecting - ignition key out of the car - reconnect the battery - wait a few minutes - insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute - turn the key to the first position and wait a minute - turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute - start the engine - take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch - reset the clock (and radio on the C3). In the handbook for the 2015 C4 it says to wait at least 2 minutes after switching off the ignition before disconnecting the battery and when reconnecting, to wait at least a minute after switching on the ignition before starting the engine.
