  1. 2 buttons on the instument cluster one resets trip to zero other one brightens and dims the dash lights. just keep it pushed in with the lights on and youl see it brighten. probaly be better to do it in the dark
  2. Well tried the 10 amp and its no good went thru fuses every time you go from high to dipped ha ha . anybody got a 12 and 3/4 amp fuse ?.
  3. Wheres techbod ?. hes had no posting for nearly a week now. So now theres no one to slate the dealers off or argue with
  4. go and get your battery checked as it dosent sound like its 100 per cent. Also have you tried turning the dashlights up
  5. ok just mulling ideas around and probally barking up the wrong tree as im no auto electrician just looking for a solution to what is a pain in the backside if it is power surges that cause them to blow............. would putting a lower rated fuse in say a 10 instead of a 15 amp and there was a surge then the fuse would blow and not the bulb as its easier and cheaper to replace the fuse or would the smaller amp fuse just blow as soon as the headlights are turned on.
  6. why oh why do c5s go through so many headlight bulbs is there a wiring/earth problem. Its every c5 i know that has the same bulb problen. Got a citroen relay and get a couple of years out of them h/light bulbs c5 you get 2 to 3 months, could the bulb be getting to hot
  7. c5 02 2.0 hdi flew thru its taxi test on friday and last night the speedo turned to 200.000 miles yes thats 200k. its had a clutch and a diesel filter housing and 30 headlight bulbs 6 sets of droplinks and 4 balljoints. Obviosley its had brake pads and service items but every car uses them so i dont realy count them if you know what i mean. all other items are the original and the car still looks good and the engine is still very responsive with power. in the past with other cars if they get to 200k they are knackered and fit just for scrap but these c5 seem to be in a different class when it comes to reliability. I know a lot of people would disagree but my opinion is that these are not town or once a week cars but need to be used constantly. Also that a lot of antipollution faults are due to the fact that thr cars trundle down to tesco,s and back and never get a good run to clear everything out. Now also got another c5 with 160k on the clock so will be watching to see how that gets along. and on the other end weve got a c5 petrol thats a 51 plate only done 70k and at present its got the head off getting new valve stem oil seals in aswell as just having a new cat and 2 struts a coil pack and 2 shperes so ive got to say that the diesel seems to be the better of the 2.
  8. definatley no fap filter on it. just have to wait and see what hapens when weather gets cold
  9. great a 2.5 box to pull out just what i really really want to do.thanks anyway steve
  10. Hear what your saying but why did they change the dephaser in the first case if the car was running with no probs and comes in for basicly oil/plugs/filters and general check up . it would be intresting to see if kfk and jannez have changed many of these i know weve never done one. so in a nutshell the car was fine till it had a service and dephaser replaced. think first id take techbods advice annd change the plugs as thats the cheapest and easyest step first. Also if you could put some of the fault codes up on here. out of intrest have the dealers rechecked the dephaser
  11. So the car was rinning fine and went into the indie for a routine service and they tell you it needs a dephaser and since then the car is running bad. if that is the casego and ask them how they got that diagnosis and most imprtantly how did they set the dephaser up. bet your car ticks over lovley all day just turns into a pig when your accelerating
  12. Sort of remember that when the syncromeshes go on the gearbox they can be replaced without removing the box, tryed google and other search engines to no avail. anybody shed some light on this or have i got a dodgey memory
  13. Whats was the original fault. And youd be better off driving down to town center citroen and book yourself into a b and b for a couple of days. Then youl have a break and know that your cars in good hands that arnt going to rip you off( cue techbod and another 4 pages of argueing ha ha).
  14. Disconect the cables from the gearbox first then see if the gear lever will go into the reverse position (remove air filter housing then look down and youl see the 2 cables coming from the car to the box push the center of the clip where it fixes to the box and pull ) then let us no the results
  15. does it have a ecu for the sat/nav.
  16. had the same problem last november and checked everything as we were fortunate to have a spare car to try bits of. in the end it turned out to be the bio metal strip in the bottom of the fuel filter housing so id change that if i were you. do a search on here for p1138 and read all about it
  17. Now now techbod you have stated that its "only a debate and nothing personal" so dont be going of on one. Advice is given out freely on this site and we all no that. also the fact that 2 of the members work in a dealership. does that not mean that if they give advice out on here then are you not getting main dealer advice for free in a roundabout way, Once my cars are paid for i certinly dont lower my prices nor does our local chippy once hes paid of his loan to buy the fish fryers so y should a main dealer do it once the tools are paid for. Now with regards to what kfk has stated about the indies. basicly the guy is telling the truth in my opinion as that is exactly what we do and we have admited it on here a few times that when we are stuck we use the main dealers and to be honest we just cant fault them and find them to be very reasonable in there prices. In your opinion they rob people and dont know what there doing. granted youve probally had more dealings wth main dealers than i have but all im saying is that ive never experienced anything like that if fact ive been given sound advice over the phone (nigel at tcc) free of charge even when they know that they wont be getting work running into hundreds of pound of me. God knows that this country hasnt got much going for it at present and everybody is struggling to make a living. But what we do have is freedom of speech and choice and as grown up people we should be able to disagree with each other and have our own opinions
  18. The members on this forum have always or so i thought been very sensible, well informed, and aware of the way the world works. So why is it that the mention of the word DEALER and they seem to lose all rhyme and reasoning. It seems the diagnostic price is a bit of a topic and mentiond that it cost 7k to buy the tools and once that money has been recovered the fee should be lowered or free. Why oh why would any buisness do that. Town center citroen charge us £35.oo per diagnostic. now in order to do that diagnostic from what ive seen the following has to be paid for by them in order to do that diagnostic, And this is from the moment you drive in of the street Rent/mortgage on building Rates electric gas water/sewage charge refuse collection duty of care complience vat tax p.a.y.e wages public/employers liability insurance diagnostic tool updates/licence for the diagnostic tool Training on how to use the diagnostic tool insurance to drive your car pats test on the plug for the diagnostic tool boiler suit plastic cover for seat floor mat steering wheel cover Now the car is taken round the back and plugged in and they then pay for the following Folder to put your paper in paper ink pats test on the plug for the printer now you have the full diagnostic paper in your hand and you read it. To most people it might as well be written in dutch so they then have to sit and go through it with you to explain it and suggest what they think it is using there experience and knowledge (gained through work experience and courses which again cost money) now they wash the car put in a air freshner Now theres probaly some other costs that ive missed out so how on earth can anybody complain at 35 quid or a hourly rate of £50. How much do plumbers/electrician charge or your solicitor (£150 per hour ).Im assuming that to get a dealership is probally like buying a franchise where you pay for the right to display the citroen logo and you must only sell there products at there prices although i coulld be wrong on that. So come on give the dealers a fair chance because at the end of the day if they dont make a profit they close then what. Well youd have a car with no main dealer back up and that would be no good and dont say it wont happen just look at the news gm/saab/nissan/bmw/volvo all struggling. Yes it would be nice to have a standard diagnostic charge right across the board but it could never happen. there is just to much to take in to do that. Your car/house/ insurance is all decided by where you live also your rates and probally loads of other thing. So come give the dealers a chance. I for one think that the dealers we use(town center citroen again) give excellent value for money only fault i can find is that the free cup of coffee you get if your waiting is a bit strong
  19. well pc shop has given up on it and admited defeat and the link above for the leads has a 300 quid price so just going to stick with the ethos scanner and town center citroen
  20. well the pc shop is still working on it. Think its going to be a loss althogh hes still posative about it
  21. got to speak as i find and town center citroen is a realy good dealers and have treated us very fair latest example ( and remember we only take them there when where in the ***oops*** ) car failed test on emission wedensday phoned Tcc wed night and car taking in thursday. They had the car till today and told us what they thought was wrong Total bill £31.20 other example c5 auto box supply and change gearbox oil (not atf fluid either it was the proper stuff) plugged in to tell ecu Total bill £50.00 4 pizzas from papa john for my sons birthday £52.00
  22. many thanks
  23. the intank pump there nearly 300 quid as you have to buy the lot when its only the motor thats gone they say its a sealed unit but its not weve opened a few up so replacing just the motor would be a cheaper option. also the stepper motor on the speedo as agin they make you buy the whole dash for 200ish when the fault is a 5 to 10 quid motor. If theese part are made seperatley for citroen then the manufactures of the parts might sell them seperate
  24. How do you go about finding out who made what parts for cars/ e.g citroen hpi intank petrol pump/gauge now citroen probally buy them in of a component manufacturer. so by looking at the part where would you start to identify the manufacturer
  25. Changing the settings didnt work either as the lexia keeps saying that it dosnt reconise the operating system so thats the end of trying vista to run it and thats from the man who owns the pc shop. Anyway the lexia software is up and running on the xp laptop as is the elm software and the elm interface . lexia wont accept the elm interface. though Mr pc man seems to think that it needs 1 of 2 things either some kind of input to say that it is a pug/cit lead that is being used or a bit of software for the lexia to acept the elm. hes been doing pc for 30 years now and says he is quietly confident that hell come up with something so stroll on monday
