  1. Weve only ever done 3 of them and that was in the last 6 months. we charge 180 plus parts and oil and there not a bad box to do either as you can slide the box back into the subframe normally 3 to 4 hours with 2 on the job. garages will no doubt tell you that the box has to come out of the car but it dosent. F the pedal is easier after pumping the pedal then that would indicate air in the system but changing the fluid is the right thing to do best regards steve
  2. hi im assuming its the outer cv joint. phonr the dealers and ask for the part numbers for a c8 cv and the part number for a c5cv as im sure there the same on the auto versions only if not you could try taking the guts out of a c5 cv joint(keep and ball bearings) and putting them into your c8 cv joint. And 3 weeks of work if your as busy as us then youl not be missing much
  3. Ok here we go The particle filter is a stand alone unit and placed before the cat in the exhaust system. Its job is to remove soot from the exhaust gasses.the cat then gets on with its own job of converting co into co2 and the cat does not need the fap filter to operate. Diesel are much better than petrols and release less co2 but in return diesel fumes are black and full of soot and this is what the fap filter tries to combat Most fap systems require a fuel adative to be mixed in with the fuel and is done automaticly when fuel is put in the tank the car registers the amount of diesel added and adds the right amount of aditive to the tank. The adative is stored in its own tank and and needs replacing when run down roughly every 50 to 70 k the adative made by rhodia inc formaly rhone poulenc and sold under the brand name of eolys and its job is to lower the point at wich carbon will burn and clear the soot out of the filter it is called regeneration The regeneration is started when pressure sensor either side of the fap filter notice a diference due to the filter being clogged or part clogged then this is what happens the heater plugs are turned on and extra fuel is injected into the engine to create so much heat that it literelly just burns the soot away This can be done with the right diagnostic tools and as well as doing the above the engine goes to 4500 revs and stays there for 40 mins to burn the soot off this id called forced regeneration You can also do this yourself by getting your car onto the motorway keeping it at 70mph in 4th gear for 10 mins must be 10 mins or youl have to start the process over again personaly i cant see the point of the system as what it stops from going out the exhaust is out weighed by the toxins (carconogenic i belive) it produces itself. and that my friend is that
  4. so why then do the dealers charge people for taking the vehicle out onto a motorway and giving it a hard drive. like i say this topic has been talked about on hear a few times go back through the search facility and have a read of them
  5. Hi Along the chassis then up though the inspection cover for the fuel tank under the rear seat. Make sure wire is secure and cant rub onto body work and fused at the battery. AGAIN MAKE SURE THE CABLE IS SECURE
  6. been down this road a thoushand times read earlier post regarding fap then do what was said earlier and itl be ok
  7. Not to sure without having a look but id be going down the following routes and checking the following for leaks. Exhaust manifold and flexi and clamps. egr valve and all pipes. turbo and pipes. just take a good look round the engine as it sounds like a leak on the exhaust side As for your fap warning light get your car on the motorway cant remember the speed its either 50 or 70mph. keep it in 4th and do 10 to 15 miles youll see the crap come out the back and that should sort that out. but check the speed and distance if you can as i know they arnt citroens advice but they are what we do and they do work. All diesels need a good run every now and again as there a dirty enginge and get clogged up with little stop start journeys round the town
  8. Hi to be honest it sounds like either the springs on the diaphram or just wear on the clutch plate. Sorry but both mean the gearbox has got to come out mind it does seem odd for either of them to go at such low milage as weve been doing citroen for 4 years now and regulary see clutches doing well over a 150k. if you do have to change the clutch pay a extra 30 quid (for the parts) and replace the nose cone and fulcrum arm. next time you get in the car start it up in nuetral then pump the clutch pedal 3 or 4 times then see how it goes into gear and you should get one of the following 1 its harder or impossible to get it into gear = Your fluid is shagged and by pumping the pedal youve airiated the fluid. 2 it goes into gear no problem = youve got air in your system and needs bleeding. 3 it stays the same = then its one of the faults mentioned above best regard steve
  9. Checking the lever and linkage is realy easy. When you change your oil youl fill it up via the top of the box if you look just a few inches further back youl see 2 thick cables going to your box the conectors look like a circle just press the center of the circle down and pull the outer of the circle up and its now diconected do this to both cables then go inside of the car and see if the gear lever move freely side to side and back and forth. Now the nipple on the box (the bits that the cables were on ) get hold of them and see if you can move them around you should be able to hear the gears getting selected. It wont hurt to spray it all with wd40 either. To conect the cable back up push the center down again and place back on the nipples its impossible to put the cables back on the wrong way and it is really easy to check.lets know how you come on
  10. Slightly confused hear you say if you put it in nuetral and lift the clutch it wont go into gear and if you keep the clutch pressed down you can get the gears fine/ Isnt that what its supposed to do. Il take it you mean the other way round and id start by doing the following 1 Get the oil changed again 2 Disconect the cables from the box and see if lever works freely 3 Check the gear linkage on the box and see if it works freely 4 Change clutch fluid as it only has a 2 year lifespan 5 Check clutch master cylinder 6 Check clutch slave cylinder 7 lat resort only pull the box out check the clutch/pressure plate and gear selectors in the box
  11. Hi if your just changing the one caliper just clamp the flexi pipe that goes to the caliper your changing then youl only have to open the bleed nipple and pump the pedal a couple of times. If its a new caliper then dont move the handbrake lever or youl shag it and make sure you put new pads in get ur footbrake working and then do your handbrake.
  12. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink it

  18. how hard is it for you to get spares out the or do you have a good dealership network
  19. That sounds like a good fix. Till it happens again at 70 down a motorway Guess you really wont no which way to turn then
  20. Had this on a rover once that was in for repair turned out that it was the wrong bulb in the brakeslight and was creating a short. Dont know if its the same with c5 but try removeing the brake lights and try the car. c5 uses a double offset bulb and not the normal offset bulb. If this dosnt work then its a diagnostic thats needed

The job that we have done worked fine with the pump and with a little tunning on kfk suggestion( thanks for that) the car is now running and the old fella is over the moon. It has however lost a bit of its top end with the customer saying it starts to struggle at 90 but he couldnt give to hoots as it only cost him £150 in total cheers steve
