Only just realised my MOT runs out in a month Worse than going to the dentists !

Was this a Lovekyn's bargain £42 MOT ?

I've often wondered what mpg a Range Rover would do at 90 mph Single figures?

I see there's a recommendation for oil changes on 1.6 Hdi engines which is basically to do it the old school way - take out the sump plug and let it drain while the oil is hot Seems sucking it out through the dipstick hole doesn't get all the muck out ( as we could have guessed )

What's up with your cables, John ? Mine have a rusty bit on the sheath where it energes under the wheelarch Are they a pig to fit ?

And you can't say "use the train/bus" etc Cost of fares is prohibitive and the public transport structure woukld collapse if people abandoned their cars and got on the bus

Any other symptoms ? Knocking or other noises ? It is quiet on this site - have we solved all known C5 problems ?

Mine's only done 80K miles and I don't think it is that as I can take the suspension up and down by sitting on the load floor and I get no noise .It seems to be as the pressure decreases in the suspension . I'm not going to worry too much

The manual talks about injecting thread sealant through an opening in the side of the mounting hole .No wonder it seizes

After a run and with the engine turned off , I get a "squeak" from the rear suspension as it settles .Never at any other time. I can sit on the rear bumper and work the suspension up and down with no sound .I think it was better last time it rained .Is this just a dry bush somewhere ?

In this months Car Mechanics magazine there's an article which basically says - do not buy a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI because of (unspecified) engine problems . I believe this is the same engine as the 1.6 Hdi Peugeot Citroen unit. Is this part of a new trend for manufacturers to build cars that last the warranty period and no more ?

It's hard to see why manufacturers charge so much for Xenon bulbs when you can get them on EBay for about £20 a pair (from China ) I got a new Osram bulb as a spare for about £25 I used to be able to change the OS sidelight bulb without removing the bumper but it was always luck rather than judgement that had the bulb going in and it was always when you were about to give up that it slipped in. I now just undo most of the front bumper fittings and pull one side of the bumper forward as it's a big old lump if it all comes off. PS Remove the headlamp washer cover first or it will break

Are we talkinfg about new shape C5's here ? You could try some silicone grease (not sealant) around the bulbholders as that must be where the water gets in

OK , I definitely won't get a 1.6 Hdi C5 now .I'm wondering if this is a future trend with big cars and small engines - 1.5 diesel Renault Laguna, 1.6 diesel Volvo V70 , 1.4 litre Skoda Superb , 1.0 litre Ford Focus ? Engine has to work so hard to pull the car along, it wears out quickly ? Obviously OK for fleet managers if somneone else pays for the bills during the lease period Is this engine no good in the C4 1.6 Hdi ? Another tip - Mr Sheen leather wipes - good for cleaning the steering wheel without removing the colour/surface of the leather

In response to Fatgut I have to say it's my own fatgut that prevents me doing an oil change without jacking it up Would anyone risk a new-shape C5 1.6 Hdi on short gentle trips with regularv oil changes ?

Yes , it is strangely quiet My only tip at the moment is not to listen when people laugh at you for buying a C5 They don't know what they are missing

I meant Mark 1 up to about 2004 when the front end redesign happened The new "German style" C5's I'd call a mark 3

So how come the MOT testers turn a blind eye to all these modified/mis-spaced personal number plates ?

Rumour has it the hatchback and estate interiors are interchangeable I'd like to know if Mk1 and Mk2 seats are interchangeable as I'm after a set in leather

Is the aerial OK ? Is it getting a weak signal so then seeking a stronger one ? I saw some of those radios on Ebay the other day for £45 coded to suit your car

Nearside one started playing up but with a good squirt of WD40 and a bit of exercising it's now fine and they both go in and out together I think the answer is to use them occasionally as I wasn't
